Alpha Knight’s Cursed Mate

111

KNIGHT

“Don’t make this difficult for yourself, Alpha Knight. You know we can still get to her without your help. Now, where’s your mate?”

I was proved, had been questioned for almost an hour by the same man who went to the vineyards, and he hadn’t given up. Eloh must have been pressuring them to get to my mate.

“How many times do I have to tell you I don’t know where she is?” I was telling the truth because I didn’t know where Zarah took her. “You can access and probe my brain. Go ahead. Like I told you a thousand times, I don’t know where she is. We can do it all day, and you will get the same answer.”

“I know you are protecting your mate. That’s what we do, but if you continue resisting us-”

“What? What are you going to do?” I didn’t like it when people threatened me. “Do you think I wanted this to happen? I was just happy when I found my mate, and then three days ago, she was wanted and treated by your people like a criminal, and now she’s gone. Are you threatening me? I’m cooperating, am I not? Don’t ever threaten me because there is nothing you can do that makes me betray my mate.”

Another man came inside the interrogation room. “Just think where she might go.”

“I wish I had ideas, but you can check her grandfather’s restaurant or apartment in New York.” I chuckled as they looked more frustrated than me. “How much did Eloh offer you to turn your side against Victor? You’re all desperate to get to the bottom of this, huh? Let me tell you this. She’s human, and she doesn’t think like us. Go on, brainstorm yourself. Where will you hide if you’re a fugitive of the law? Cuba?”

They shared a look as if they just figured something out.

“So, how long are we going to keep doing this?” Releasing an irritating laugh, I raised my hands, and they attached a polygraph laced with magic. You should know by now if I’m lying. What did she do anyway? How did she become wanted by the council when she’s not even a werewolf?”

“She’s mated to you. That’s why she has to abide by the law of our kind,” said the second man.

“You haven’t answered my question.” I didn’t read the written order by the head of the council. “What possibly the kind of threat my mate has done? Or Eloh-”

“It’s Head Council Eloh,” the first interrogator corrected me.

“Fine, Head Council. Has he felt threatened?”

The first interrogator looked at the second man and said, “Let him go.”

“Finally.” I took off the things attached to me and stood up. “If you find her, make sure to inform me.”

“We will not stop looking for her. She will make a mistake, and I will make sure I will be there to arrest her.”

I fixed and buttoned my suit. “Do that, and good luck.”

I walked out of the interrogation room until my gaze landed on the High Priestess Margaret. Dreadful certainly settled in my chest. I’d never suspected she would join the new council member, considering she ran the coven in New York.

She looked at me with no remorse or pity. So she’d been listening to the whole interrogation all this time.

I left the private LLC firm building their front for the Werewolf Council in the U. S.

“How did it go?” Kaleb met me halfway.

“I’ve been telling them the truth. I don’t know where Nirvana is, and they should have listened to me the first time I answered their question.”

“Let’s get out of here, Alpha.” Luka opened the SUV door for me. “Those sons of bitches.”

“Get us out of here.” I got inside. Kaleb took the driver’s seat while Luka and Uncle Lennox stayed behind.

McKaye and Kailin took the other vehicle and followed behind us.

Before Kaleb could say anything, I raised a hand and told him through our link, “Don’t say a word until we get somewhere safe.”

We arrived at my house, and I instantly missed Nirvana around here- her laugh, her smile, her smell, and her voice. I didn’t know how long I could stay sane without her by my side. My wolf needed her, but I needed her more.

“Are you okay, son?” Uncle Lennox gripped my shoulder. “It’s going to be okay. Wherever she is, I’m sure she’s safe and taking care of herself.”

“Guys, I came as soon as I heard what happened.”

We all turned to see Dylan with his duffel bag and somewhat radiation detector.

“What the hell is that thing?” McKaye asked.

“Zarah chanted a spell so I could detect if there’s some listening device or camera hidden in this house.”

“Great idea. Start working.” I went to the kitchen and grabbed water from the ref.

I was about to drink when Kailin came and hugged me tight.

“I can’t even begin to fathom what you’re feeling right now, cousin. I’m so sorry you are going through this. You both don’t deserve it.”

“I’m good as long as I know she’s safe out there, K.” I breathed deeply and drank the water. “How’s your wound?”

“Healing.” I felt her hesitation to say something.

“You’re worried about Dane?”

She instantly put her walls up. “Why would I?”

I managed to put a smile on my face. Despite everything that was going on, I knew Nirvana would not give up on us, and that was something I should keep holding on to until she came back to me.

“He’s your mate, K. It’s normal, and you’re supposed to feel that way, care for him, worried for him. You don’t have to shut off your emotions. In just two days, I got to know him. He wasn’t that monster you thought he was. He had a principle, a code he never broke, and that was hard to find these days. Dane is loyal to Victor- only a good man can do that. Now, what were you hesitating about earlier?”

“It’s nothing. I’m just worried about you.”

Before she walked out of the kitchen, I called her name. “He got a job to do. Once it’s done, he’ll be here.”

“Can we trust Victor?”

“He’s not given me a reason not to. And if he betrays me, Dane has to choose between him and you. If you go with him, I’m fine with that, but make sure he’ll never mistreat you.”

“I’m not going anywhere because if he wants to be my mate, then he stays here with me. This is my home. This is where I belong, and make sure you tell him that.”

Dylan appeared in the kitchen. “It’s clear. The house is clean.”

“Are you sure?”

“You doubt Zarah’s magic?”

“No, but Margaret is working with the council.”

“Yeah. Zarah knows that, and she wanted me to tell you that Margaret has to cooperate with them so they won’t suspect Zarah is on our side.” He gave me a new burner phone. “Don’t use your phone, but you can talk to Nirvana through this.”

A hope fluttered in my chest as I took the phone from Dylan. “Thank you.”

“Her number is saved in there. I know that doesn’t suffice-”

“Thank you.” I hugged Dylan tight. “This is more than enough.”

I quickly opened the door to our bedroom, turned on the phone, and dialed the only number saved inside.

It rang for a while before it was answered, but I heard nothing.

“I supposed I’m not talking to air?”

“Oh, my God,” she said breathlessly. “You have no idea how happy I am to hear your voice.”

“Sweetheart, I have a pretty damn good idea,” I said in a low voice. “Where are you? No, no, no, don’t answer that. I miss you. Did you read my letter?”

“Why are you whispering?”

I laughed out loud. “I’m sorry. Damn. It’s strange to hear myself laughing. I fucking miss you, Nirvana.”

“I miss you, too, baby. Every damn second, I’m away from you. And yes, I read your letter, and I keep a little hope in my heart that I will see you soon.”

“Just hang in there for a bit. Please don’t give up on me, on us. Please?”Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.

“Why? What do you expect from me? Go out, drink in a bar, and go home with a new-”

“Don’t ever mention it.” I closed my eyes. I couldn’t imagine her doing those things, but still, it drove me insane that I couldn’t hold her in my arms, kiss her, and make love to her.

“So, how did the interrogation go?”

“They made a point that they won’t stop until they have you in their custody.”
