Fell Into His Love Trap (Skylar and Tobias)

Chapter 729 Human Desires

Chapter 729 Human Desires

Tobias didn't argue with her.

Madelyn was asleep upstairs, and they didn't want to wake her up to prepare a late-night meal for them.

He had made supper while she was showering, and the pasta was leftover from today's breakfast.

Skylar had prepared the pasta and sauce separately, so Tobias only needed to reheat them.

He had also fixed a simple salad dish from whatever he could find in the refrigerator.

“Your fever hasn't gone down,” Skylar stated as soon as Tobias sat down. “You'll need another shot at the hospital tomorrow. Does the wound still hurt?”

Tobias looked up to see her looking at him with a concerned expression.

“I'm fine. Don't worry about me. You should look after yourself. The weather has been too cold lately. Remember to dress warmly before heading out.”

The chill in the air was now permeating her very bones. Even the hot food couldn't prevent the iciness from creeping over her.

She took several more mouthfuls before saying, “Will you be honest with me? Does whatever's going on at Harbourside have something to do with me? I understand that my keeping the old manor has created troubles for you, and it's not worth it.”

Tobias was reluctant to lie to Skylar. He didn't want her to believe it was her fault.

Ultimately, he was the one to blame for not carefully considering his options before acting.

He was heedless in wanting to preserve a piece of Skylar's memory alive, not expecting it would put her under such stress.

He could only give her an honest answer now that she had brought it up. “It has nothing to do with you. Finish your food quickly, or dawn will come soon. You have to learn how to trust me. I will never deceive you. Let's put a pin in this conversation. I'm not feeling too good.”

Skylar yawned as the first daylight crept over the horizon. It was torturous to stay up all night watching the sky gradually lightening into another day.

She didn't know which medicine Tobias should take from the assortment of pill bottles on the bedside table. She glanced at the instruction sheet and waited until he got out of the shower before asking, “Have you taken your medication? How should these pills be taken?”

He sank down on the foot of the bed, pressing his hand against his abdomen. Skylar had never seen a pinched expression on his pale face before. “I know when to take them. Get some rest. I can't sleep for long. I have to attend a meeting at ten in the morning before going to Newcove to settle a few things before Christmas.”

Skylar thought he must be insane for attending a meeting in the morning and disregarding his health. Mature people at his age would have started to take care of themselves. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.

She poured a glass of warm water for him, for there was nothing else she could help with. Tobias ran his fingers across her cheek and said in a hoarse voice, “It's almost Christmas. What are your plans? Will you be spending it with your family or at my place? The festive season is such a hindrance.”

Skylar lowered her head and folded her clothes. “I wish to spend it by myself. I'm weird for not looking forward to the holidays. I don't buy anything for myself, and these festivities mean enduring derision from my relatives.”

He put on his pajamas and smiled at her. “It won't last forever. I can accompany you if you have no plans.”

Skylar was alarmed and hurriedly declined, “It's fine. Your mom will skin me alive if you spent Christmas with me. We should return to our respective families. If you can make it back before midnight, I'll come home early to wait for you. I'm sure Uncle Wesley will be in a sour mood after his plans of hitting the jackpot fell through.”

Tobias didn't disagree. Human desires are limitless, and their avarice will never be satisfied. He would not budge once he had made up his mind.
