Chapter 224 Hostage

Mia's crying was drowned out by the music in the bar.

No one paid attention to the person sitting in the corner booth.

Ranita wasn't feeling any better, she took a tissue out of her bag and handed it to Mia. "Mia, nobody's life is perfect. You said you envy me, but you should know how hard I've worked and how much effort I've put into everything."

Mia looked up at Ranita.

Ranita worked harder than anyone else! When she was exhausted and couldn't keep her eyes open, Ranita was still working overtime. While Mia ate her meals, Ranita read books!

Ranita was beautiful, talented with languages and worked hard. That was why Mia felt even more envious! She wanted to surpass her but found herself always being pulled along instead.

"Ranita... I'm sorry..." Mia didn't regret what she had done but facing Ranita now made her feel an endless sense of remorse.

"I didn't mean it... you know about my family situation... I never wanted to hurt you... I'm jealous of you but also grateful!" Tears streamed down Mia's face as she cried uncontrollably.

They had been friends for so many years now.

It hurt Ranita deeply inside too.

But forgiveness wasn't something that came easily for her.

"Mia, stop crying. Everyone is looking over here." Ranita handed a tissue over to Mia. "The studio is gone now. There's no need to bring up old events again."

"Can you forgive me?" asked Mia. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

Ranita remained silent before shaking her head slowly, "Sorry. I can't be that magnanimous. The studio held too much meaning for me yet ended so tragically."

Although not spoken aloud, Ranita couldn't bear letting go like this either.

"Mia, you should go home early tonight. Rest well. Your family needs you. You can't keep living like this forever."

"Last time when you got drunk, I sent you back safely. This time if it happens again, I won't be there anymore."

Mia stared blankly at Ranita,"You know about my family?"

"A little bit," replied Ranita, but talking about it right now wasn't going to change anything.

Ranita clutched onto her purse tightly, "I agreed today not because I have a saintly heart or because I want to forgive your actions. It's just that I want to remind you, to live well for your loved ones."

"And from now on , don't contact me anymore."

Ranita left without drinking any juice.

She paid what needed paying, and walked away from their table silently.

After leaving the parking lot of C-club, it took a few minutes to walk. Halfway there, suddenly a car stopped on the side of the road and two big men with hats and masks got out. They looked at her and immediately approached her, "Are you Ranita Bowman?"

"Sorry, you've got the wrong person." Ranita tried to avoid them, but her heart was racing as it was clear that these two were coming for her.

"Girl! We're looking for you! Come with us, someone wants to see you!" The big man approached Ranita, his hand shaking a small knife that reflected the light.

Ranita looked around.

The man had a knife in their hand, and she didn't dare to make any sudden movements.

"Who wants to see me?" Ranita wanted to stall for time so that a kind passerby could help her call the police, but the big man didn't answer. "Are you going or not?"

Ranita was pushed onto the car.

The knife was pressed against her neck.

Ranita swallowed nervously, her head buzzing and feeling dizzy. She forced herself to calm down and said, "Gentlemen, I don't know where you're taking me. We live in a society governed by the rule of law now. Breaking the law means going to jail. Why risk it? How about this instead: I'll give you both some money for your trouble if you let me go?"
