Chapter 234
Then, Estrella crossed her arms in front of her chest and entered the hospital room.
Once inside, Estrella’s gaze immediately fell on the bandages covering Jason’s face. If the scars were deep, it would be tough to avoid marks.
Noticing Estrella come in, Jason said, “It’s just a few scratches. Let Thomas drive you
home.”
Estrella nodded and said, “Okay.”
After a quick check on Keegan next door, she left with Thomas. On the drive back, Thomas, gripping the steering wheel, glanced at Estrella and said, “Jason called us, saying you might be in trouble. He was nearly panicking, his voice trembling. It’s been years since I’ve seen him so anxious.”
“How did he even know I was at Glimmering Lake?” Estrella inquired.
“No idea,” Thomas admitted. “But finding out where you are isn’t hard for him.” He then added, “Just a thought, Estrella, but are you sure you want to keep digging into the Glimmering Lake case? Maybe we’re dealing with folks who are way out of our league.”
Estrella chuckled. “Out of our league or not, I’m seeing this through.”
How could she not? If she didn’t unearth the culprits, what would become of the villagers in Glimmering Lake, or the good folks under their jurisdiction?
She knew the stakes when she chose to be an attorney. She wouldn’t have picke path if she was afraid, and she certainly didn’t want Jason and Keegan’s injuries vain.
Acknowledging Estrella’s resolve, Thomas reached out with his right hand and ruf hair. “You go full throttle, Estrella. Jason and I will back you every step of the way.”
As her eyes drifted over, Thomas quickly withdrew his hand. “You’re Ella, the boss, ou leader.” He had meant to comfort and encourage her, but she clearly didn’t need it.
Twenty minutes later, they pulled up to the Dorvold family’s gate. It was too late for pleasantries, and Thomas urged her not to dwell on the night’s events too much before watching her enter the house and then driving off.
Inside, Autumn rushed to greet Estrella. “Back already? How are Jason and your colleague?”
Before Estrella could respond, Autumn continued, “Your dad’s on a red-eye flight back because of this.”
Estrella clasped Autumn’s hand. “Mom, it’s all right. It’s late. You should get some rest.” As Autumn was about to caution her daughter against probing too deeply into the case,
she noticed Estrella’s exhaustion and held back, knowing Estrella’s determination was as
staunch as her father’s.
After reassuring Autumn, Estrella retired upstairs. Sitting on the edge of the small bed, she watched Isaac sleep peacefully, feeling a chill of what-ifs run through her. She hadn’t been this nervous at the scene, but her deepest concerns had been for Isaac-what would her son do if something happened to her?
After a tender kiss on Isaac’s forehead, Estrella lingered by the bed before heading to the
bathroom.
The next morning, after breakfast with Isaac, Estrella briefed Logan at the law firm about the previous night’s events and then headed to the hospital.
As for the police, she had given her statement and handed over the dashcam evidence while Jason and Keegan were in surgery the night before.
“Estrella, you came!” Kristin’s spirits lifted at the sight of her.
“Hi Kristin,” Estrella greeted.
Kristin pulled a chair up for Estrella, whispering that Jason had been in pain all night and had only fallen asleep after giving a two-hour statement to the police that morning.
Estrella glanced at Jason, silently grateful for his timely intervention the night before.
Kristin sighed, “He’s been in scraps before, but this is the worst I’ve seen him hurt.”
Estrella replied, acknowledging Jason’s role. “Thanks to his timely rescue last nigh
“Whenever you are in trouble, Jason would rush to your aid even if it meant facing danger,” Kristin said. “Remember when you were in the eleventh grade and got surrounded by a few thugs? Jason was a step behind Korey that time, but he ended incapacitating those hooligans. I even had to pay a significant amount of money to s the matter, and your father scolded him for hitting those thugs too hard.”
Kristin explained to Estrella that they’d kept the details from her to spare her any trauma adding that while Jason might not be much of a talker, his actions spoke volumes.
Estrella remained silent, prompting Kristin to press on. “Estrella, deep down, you didn’t agree to marry Jason just because of some fortune-teller’s words, right? There must be feelings there. Otherwise, knowing you, you’d never have agreed to the marriage.”
As Kristin delved into the past, Estrella couldn’t help but smile. “I’ve been smitten with him since we were kids, so ending up together wasn’t just about the fortune-telling. But, that’s all water under the bridge now. I don’t remember the details all that well anyway. Jason saved my hide this time, and for that, I’m truly grateful. But let’s keep things separate.”
Admitting in front of Kristin that she married Jason out of affection meant that Estrella.

had truly moved on. Estrella might still consider him a friend, but she’d never see him as a lover again. Those feelings were gone. This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Many things seemed too difficult to discuss or confront at the time, but in retrospect, after mány years, they weren’t as earth-shattering as they appeared to be.
Having loved, felt heartache, and been hurt – they were all just water under the bridge.
Estrella’s clarity was met with a silent sigh from Kristin. As a woman who had been through the wringer herself, Kristin understood all too well that once a woman becomes a mother, nothing else holds the same weight. Her child is her world, her everything.
In the hospital room, Jason was still lost in slumber.
Kristin and Estrella chatted about their childhoods, with Estrella joining in the laughter, but her heart no longer fluttered.
Around noon, noticing Jason hadn’t woken up, Kristin glanced at her phone and said, “Estrella, I’ve got to run an errand. Could you keep an eye on Jason for me? You know how he is, not keen on strangers hovering around, otherwise I’d just leave it to the nursing staff.”
“Go ahead. I can keep watch,” Estrella replied, unable to say no given that Jason had been injured saving her and Keegan. Besides, she had prepared herself to look after him when she came to the hospital.
“Alright then, I’m off. Call me if anything comes up here.”
“Will do.” Estrella nodded as she walked Kristin to the elevator.
Returning to the room, Estrella pulled out her laptop and began to work. She still h make a couple of trips to Glimmering Lake to gather more evidence from the villag
On the hospital bed, Jason, unbeknownst to her, had opened his eyes. He watched Estrella engrossed in her work, opting not to disturb her. Instead, he lay there quietly gaze fixed on her.
