Chapter 44: Be a good boy and come to me
Chapter 44: Be a good boy and come to me
Amelia slowly opened her eyes and closed them. Her vision was blurry at first, but it became clearer after several blinks.
She could finally see clearly and in front of her was James, lying on his left hand side, facing her. His face was about three inches away from hers.
She creased her brows and sprang up. She looked around the room, wondering how and when she got there.
The manner at which she sprang up woke James up, and he also sat up.
“Amelia.” He called, and she turned her head to look at him.
“What am I doing here? Why are we sleeping on the same bed?” She asked, moving further away from him.
“Hey… I know it would be hard to recollect what happened last night. How are you feeling?”
He stretched his hand to her face but she moved away. She got out of bed and moved away from it.
“Hey… what’s wrong? I just want to check your temperature.”
“What happened, Mr. James,” She responded, lowering her head slowly.
She couldn’t remember much but she could remember vividly that they were on good terms and that is why she ended up in the club in the very first place.
James heaved a loud sigh and yanked the duvet off his body. He got out of bed and walked to where she stood.
“I told you not to talk to Elena anymore. You see what she caused you?” He asked, and Amelia knitted her eyebrows.
She raised her head and looked at him. “What do you mean?” She asked, trying to remember what happened last night.
“Let’s leave here first. We’ll talk better when we get home.” He said. He picked up her jacket and stretched it to her.
“I’m not going home with you, Mr. James. You smashed my phone on the floor.”
“So where would you go? You’ll go back to Elena, after what she did to you?”
“What did she do?”
“She drugged you, Amelia! She put two capsules of Viagra in your drink! She set you up with a man, fortunately I was around to save you before he slept with you.”
“What?!” Amelia exclaimed.
“I’ll prepare our things. Think back very well, you will remember. I told you she isn’t who you think she is, but you would never listen to me.”
James walked away and Amelia grabbed her head as she began to remember all that went down the previous night.
“No… no… no…” She cried.
“Yes, Amelia. You were all over a stranger, calling him James because of how horny you were.”
“Oh my God…”
She bowed her head and looked at her body, James narrowed his gaze at her, wondering what she was looking for.
“I didn’t do anything to you if that’s what that is about. Though you wanted me to sleep with you so badly, I didn’t do it. Let’s go back home and talk properly there.”
Amelia cleaned the tears that streamed out of her eyes and bobbed.
James carried her bag and hung it on his shoulder, just like he did the previous night.
He walked to the door and opened it. He stepped aside and waited for Amelia to walk out first.
Amelia gulped hard and shuffled to the door. All memories of the previous night kept rushing into her head. How she was all over a stranger, how she wanted him to sleep with her.
She became disappointed in herself.
*
They both sat in the car, and James drove out of the club’ premises. Amelia sat next to him in front of the car and kept her head lowered.
Tears couldn’t stop streaming out of her eyes at the thought of betrayal from someone she called her best friend.
James took a glance at her and noticed she was sobbing silently.
“What are you thinking, Amelia?” He asked, and she sniffed and looked at him.
“Why would she do that to me? She was my best friend! I trusted her, and told her almost everything.” She mumbled in tears.
James clenched his jaws and looked away. He tightened his grip on the steering wheel as he drove.
“She is evil, Amelia. You shouldn’t believe anything she says.”
Amelia bounced her head and looked out of the window. “Can I ask you something?” She asked, and James nodded
“Yes, you can.”
“What really happened between you and Elena, Mr. James. Tell me everything.”
James exhaled softly and nodded.
“It all happened when she started working as my secretary. She seemed normal at first, but later she started acting so obsessed with me. She wouldn’t eat until she sees me, she would stay in the office until whenever I am done just to tell me goodnight. At first I thought it was a good thing that she cared about me, not until one day we won a contract. I was so happy, and she brought the suggestion of celebrating in the office…”
James took a break and swallowed hard. These bad memories made him even angrier.
“What happened?” Amelia asked out of curiosity.
“She drugged my wine. The same way she did to your tequila. The drug she put in it was to make me fall asleep. She raped me right there in the office and after I realized what happened, I fired her.”
“Oh my… She is so evil. She told me a different story.”
“What story?” James asked.
“She said you raped her and fired her afterwards.”
James scoffed and shook his head. “I’m not surprised. She would do anything to make her look like the victim. I would never rape a woman. There’s no fun in that.”
After James finished talking, great silence set in and they both had different thoughts running in their minds.
Amelia recalled she had kissed that stranger too and she slowly touched her lips.
“I kissed him,” She muttered, and James looked at her.
“The stranger?”
She nodded and said; “I wasn’t myself at all. I wasn’t thinking straight. I hate Elena for this. What did I ever do to deserve such cruelty from her?”
“I understand. You kissed me too.” He added, and she slowly lowered her head.
“I’m sorry, Mr. James. I didn’t mean to…”
“I wasn’t bad actually. I liked it.”
“What?” Amelia asked in surprise.
“Yes, I did like it. Who would have thought you would be so good at kissing?” He chuckled, and Amelia smiled and hid her face in her palm.
James felt so happy seeing her smile again. He moved his right hand from the wheel and moved it to her.
“Give me your hand.” He said, and she looked at his face. He gave her a reassuring nod and she placed her hand on his.
“I’m sorry for what happened. I was so angry and didn’t know what I was doing. I’m sorry for smashing your phone on the floor.”
Amelia’s eyes popped wide open as she listened to him. ‘Is this a dream? Is Mr. James really apologizing to me?! Oh My God!!’
“Hey, Amelia… say something.” James added after waiting for so long to hear her reply.
“I’m sorry too, Mr. James. I didn’t mean to slap you. And about Fred, I have nothing going on with him. He is just a friend. He just wanted to make me feel better about myself, and I let him.”
James nodded and withdrew his hand. “You talked about getting a divorce…” He gulped and continued.
“… were you serious about it? Do you still want to get a divorce?”
Amelia heaved a loud sigh and began to fondle her fingers. “I… I said that out of anger, Mr. James. I didn’t mean it, and I don’t want to get a divorce, except you want it.”
“No… no! I don’t want a divorce. We have been married for just a month. We would be shameless to get a divorce. Let’s try to make things work instead. If not for anything, but to put Elena to shame.”
“Not because we love each other?” Amelia asked.
“Amelia…”
“Tell me Mr. James. Do you feel anything for me? Even if it’s a little bit?” She butted in.
James kept his gaze on the street, trying to rearrange the words he was going to say to her.
“I don’t know. I need time to figure that out,” he responded, and Amelia bobbed sadly.
“I’ll wait for you then.” She answered, and James smiled and nodded.
‘I feel so relieved having her around me again. I don’t think I want to lose her anymore.’ He thought, still smiling widely.

Amelia walked to her room to take a shower, while James sat in the living room, waiting for her to finish.
He pulled out the neck piece in his pocket and stared at it. He scrutinized it and noticed that the clip was slack already. He hurried into the store, picked up a plier and began to fix it.
“I bet she’d be so happy when I give this back to her.”
As he was fixing it, his phone began to vibrate in his pocket. He pulled it out and checked the caller to see it was an unknown number.
He answered the phone and put it on speaker. He placed it on the table and continued amending the necklace.
“Hey Pookie.”
Hearing Elena’s voice made James hurriedly drop the plier and the necklace on the table. He picked the phone and removed it from the speaker. Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
“What the hell do you want now?! Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?”
“Why would I be, Pookie? She is with what belongs to me. I am not ashamed of trying to get it back.”
“Are you insane, Elena? She took you as her best friend!”
“Well, she was so stupid to believe that. If it wasn’t for you, she wouldn’t have found out, Pookie.”
“Stop calling me Pookie, you devil! Don’t you ever come close to me or Amelia again! Ever!”
“I’m sorry but I can’t do that. Amelia, yes I may not come close to her again, but you… No, it’s not possible.”
“F**k you.”
“Before you get so pissed and hang up. I have something interesting to tell you.”
“Save it for yourself! I don’t want to hear it!”
“Really? Even if it’s going to ruin your wife’s life and your business? For your own good, I would advise you to listen.”
James creased his brows and sprang to his feet.
“What are you talking about?” He asked nervously, and immediately he asked, she hung up.
“Elena! Elena!” James called and looked at the screen of his phone.
‘What the hell is she trying to do this time?’
A message popped into his phone shortly, and he quickly opened it. It was a video message.
He downloaded it and began to play it. When he saw what was in the video, his eyes widened in great shock. A text message popped in afterward.
“If you don’t want the whole Alabama to know how nasty your wife is, you will be a good boy and come to me. If you come to see me, then I’ll delete the videos with me. Very simple.”
After he finished reading her text, he clenched his fist and punched the side in anger.
“F**k you!” He yelled.
Amelia walked up to him and noticed how worked up he looked.
“Mr. James, are you okay?” She asked, and he raised his head and divulged a faint smile.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry about it.”
“Are you sure? I heard you yelling.”
“It’s nothing. Just work.” He lied, smiled widely.
