Chapter 73 The Soup
During the car ride, Ranita reclined with a pallid face, perspiring from the agony.
“Ranita, can you hold on?” Steve noticed Ranita’s condition through the rearview mirror, his usual composure now replaced with tension. He pressed harder on the gas pedal.
“Dr. Pearson, my stomach is hurting! What should I do? Is the baby alright?”
“Don’t be silly! You and your baby will be fine!” Steve wasn’t one to make hasty promises as a doctor, but he couldn’t help it when it came to Ranita.
“Really? Dr. Pearson… you’re incredible… if you say everything is okay, then it must be!” Ranita’s head spun, momentarily forgetting that Steve wasn’t an obstetrician – he couldn’t guarantee anything!
Despite the pain, Ranita remained conscious when they arrived at the hospital. The cause of her abdominal discomfort might have been the Poria Soup she consumed, which pregnant women should avoid. Fortunately, she only had half a bowl.
After receiving an injection for pain relief, Steve arranged a temporary bed for Ranita to rest while Dylan rushed over anxiously.
“Ranita! You scared me!” Dylan hadn’t answered his phone because he was out of town, but he managed to rush back, running three red lights and almost losing all his points!
Dylan scolded her, “It’s not about losing points. How did you let it come to this? How many times have you been hospitalized recently?”
“Not that many…” Ranita wryly smiled at Dylan’s exaggerated words. “This time was truly an accident. I didn’t expect just half bowl of soup…”
When they mentioned the soup again later in their conversation, Dylan finally grew angry, “That woman Shannon must have done this on purpose!”
“Dylan, I genuinely think it was an accident! Shannon doesn’t even know I’m pregnant…”
Dylan snorted, “You fool! Shannon is your enemy, and you’re still defending her? Are you daft?”
“Even so, without evidence, we can’t simply blame everything on her!” Ranita didn’t like Shannon either, but she could distinguish right from wrong.
“Alright, alright! You’re right!” Dylan didn’t want to argue with Ranita, who was a patient, and ended the topic early.
“This time, luckily, you were smart enough to seek Steve’s help instead of coming to me directly. If anything happened to you and the baby, I wouldn’t know what to do!”
Dylan breathed a sigh of relief but soon received a call from Chris in front of Ranita. Chris’s tone was serious, “Dylan, you drove through three red lights, disregarding traffic rules in your sports car, and someone caught it on camera. The company’s public relations team managed to stop it, but you better give me an explanation immediately.”Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“I…” Dylan didn’t know how to explain for a moment and looked at Ranita for help, “I had an emergency…”
“An emergency? Breaking the law is one thing, but if you don’t get caught, it’s fine. Now that it’s caught on camera, if this affects our family…”
Dylan was so furious he clenched his teeth. Although he was the second young master of the Webster family, he felt like a quail facing an eagle when dealing with Chris.
“I…” Seeing Dylan struggle, Ranita took his phone away and put it up against her ear, “Mr. Webster… this is Ranita.”
“Ranita? What happened? Are you with Dylan?” Chris was surprised.
Ranita apologetically pinched the corner of her clothes as she spoke, “Mr. Webster, please don’t blame Dylan. It’s all my fault! I wasn’t feeling well, and he broke traffic rules because he was worried about me.”
