A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 819: Returning the Favor

“Already checked on the patient, no need to see them off,” Brendon said coolly, dismissing the guest.

Shannon’s eyes welled up with tears. She bit her lip and said, “Brendon, I know I was wrong. I didn’t mean to deceive you! You know how much I love you; I just didn’t want to lose you.”

“Brendon… I’m begging you, please don’t leave me. I don’t want to break off our engagement… I won’t agree to it! Your unilateral decision doesn’t count!”

“Ugh…” Shannon began to cry, collapsing softly to the ground. Seeing her daughter so spineless, Lena’s face turned stern with anger.

“Shannon!”

“Mom!” Shannon cried in Lena’s arms. “Mom… my heart hurts so much! I don’t want to leave Brendon!”

“I can’t live without him!”

With that, Shannon started to struggle out of Lena’s embrace, shouting, “I might as well be dead.”© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

Lena held her down and turned to Brendon. “Brendon, say something! Even if Shannon lied about being pregnant, was all your love over the years fake? How did you promise us back then? Shannon risked her life to save you, and you vowed to take care of her for life!”

Lena was furious. “If you insist on breaking off the engagement, then return the life she saved first!”

Brendon wasn’t heartless. He said solemnly, “Mrs. Murphy, I will compensate Shannon in other ways, but I’m sorry, I can’t reciprocate her feelings.”

“I have Ranita and Ayaan.”

Hearing this, Shannon became even more agitated, rolling her eyes and fainting in Lena’s arms. Soon after, nurses and doctors came to take her away.

When Ranita returned, she encountered Lena in the hallway. Lena sneered at her and said cryptically, “Ranita, you’re quite something.”

Ranita was baffled.

She entered the ward to find Brendon playing with Ayaan. She quickly approached them. “Ayaan, Mommy’s back!”

“Mommy!” Ayaan reached out to hug Ranita. “Why did you take so long?”

“Daddy only gave me plain porridge. I’m hungry!”

Poor Ayaan complained with teary eyes and a pouty mouth.

“Really?” Ranita glared at Brendon. “Why didn’t you order takeout for our son?”

Brendon showed no remorse and replied sarcastically, “While his mommy was out enjoying herself, we were left with plain porridge. Truly pitiful.”

Ranita chuckled in exasperation.

“You’re so petty!” she said before Brendon grabbed her wrist and pulled her to sit on the edge of the bed. “You took too long. Ayaan and I got tired of waiting!”

He playfully scratched her palm.

“Stop it, I haven’t washed my hands yet!” Ranita’s ears turned red as she hurriedly put Ayaan down to wash her hands. Ayaan followed her closely and whispered mysteriously, “Mommy, let me tell you something…”

“Hmm?”

“That… that annoying auntie came. She cried and then collapsed on the floor!”

Ayaan was anxious. “I wanted to listen, but Daddy covered my ears.”

Shannon came?

“Did she faint on the floor?” Shannon’s usual tactic-playing the victim to gain sympathy.

Ayaan nodded vigorously. “Yes! She fainted and was taken away by the doctors.”

“That bad auntie is gone. Ayaan is happy!”
