Avery’s Point Of View

Avery! Avery! Avery! I heard a rush of water. A loud thud echoed in my head then another bang on a door, a firm touch on my shoulder and I was being shaken vigorously. And slowly I opened my eyes that are heavy and the first person gaze I met was Kayden’s. I have just been pulled out of a bathtub that was over flowing with clean water.

“Avery.” He mumbled and carried me out of the bathtub.

“Is she okay?” I heard another set of familiar voices.

I saw Luna Beatrice and Katherine at the door. I was surprised to see all of them. My gaze flickered back at the bathtub as realization hit me straight in the face. Did I just slept peacefully in the bathtub?

“Avery, can you hear me?” Kayden sat me down on the cold floor and he embraced me tightly.

“I was scared when you didn’t open up the door. I thought.. I thought.. you had done something bad to yourself. Please say something.. Avery.” Kayden rushed out his words.

Wait Kayden?! How did I come back to him?! I thought. And all of a sudden I pushed him away and crawled backwards and far away from him until my back hit the tiles. I curled up my kneels, goosebumps forming on my skin and my body trembled vehemently from cold. I looked down at myself, I was dressed in a black lingerie and bra. Slowly I touched my body, my face skin but I couldn’t feel wrinkles-it was so smooth.

“She is cold.” I heard Luna Beatrice voice.

“Towel..” Kayden came to me and covered my body with a towel.

No.. I don’t want to feel his touch on my skin. So I did what came to my mind as he crouched down in front of me.

“Avery-” I pushed him so hard.

“Don’t touch me!” I screamed.

He fell backwards, far from where I sat down. “Don’t.. come.. close to me.” I said shakily as I held the towel tightly around my body.

What just happened to me? How did I end up with Kayden again? Perhaps am I living two lives now? Am I sharing a body in two worlds? I pondered.

Some minutes passed in silence, I glanced up to see Kayden sitting up and his keen eyes watched me. I stood up abruptly, went passed him and rushed to the mirror. I was in my younger self, the same one I had seen in the picture Riley handed over to me. The same girl in the picture he had stolen from my father.

“What happened?” I muttered, looking so confused at my reflection in the mirror.

“You have been locked up in the room for about three days. We had to break down the door because Kayden couldn’t feel your connection anymore.” Luna Beatrice explained.

Slowly I stepped away from the mirror and placed my hands at the sides of my head. The towel dropped from my body as memories tried to flood my mind’s eye.

“No.. no.. this can’t be happening..” I have been out for three days but I travelled in trance for twenty years.

I closed my eyes to remember my last moment with Kayden’s family and also try to figure out where this vision all started. Everything I saw came as a vision but might be a another warning to me.

In a rush, clear images filled my mind. The last thing I remembered was alpha Scott yelling at his son. If Kayden is apologizing then it means that he truly cheated on me with his best friend. And I also recalled my decision to leave rather than wait around for Corinna to take my life just like I have seen it in the vision. So I realized that the vision must have started when I formulated an escape plan.

“You.. truly cheated on me with.. Corinna.” I said in a rasp.

“Avery.. please forgive me.” Kayden made an eye contact with me.

So if I run away the same way it happened in the vision then I would go through everything over again in reality.

I have read so many supernatural books that tells about superpowers. I have seen wolves with extra ordinary abilities and I have studied how it works. At this point, I have come to realize that I am a wolf without superpowers but I have a second sight ability.

Second sight is a form of extra sensory perception whereby someone can perceive information in form of a vision mostly about the future before it happens in reality.

I had dreamt about a she wolf having a pup for my mate and it happened. So witnessing twenty years of my life in the space of three days only means that if I ignore then it would surely come to pass. No! I can’t let this happen! How can step siblings be mated to each other? For the secrets to be unveiled? For me to know the dangers ahead? Kayden’s voice interrupted my train of thoughts.

“I’ll tell you the whole truth.” Kayden reached out to grab my waist and he embraced me tightly.

“You had a relationship with Corinna before you met me. And it all started when she was in heat.” I explained the truth I had seen in the vision.

Kayden looked up at me. “How did you know?” He asked, a surprised look on his expression.

“I know everything.” I muttered not wanting to narrated how and the twenty years journey.

This vision made me realize that there is no perfect mate anywhere. Every wolf is just trying to be good and better for their destined mate. If I leave a cheating mate I might possibly end up with a manipulator and a liar. The last thing I wanted is to lose my whole to someone like Riley and also have my child dragged into this mess.

It is surprising how I am not even feeling any form of emotions towards him. My wolf must have cut off the connection between us temporarily. I knew she is finding it hard to accept him again because he had disappointed us even after we forgave him for the abuse.

And I reached out to detach myself from his hold. “I might forgive you later on but we need sometime apart. I know we’ll learn to value whatever we have if we are miles away from each other.” I said.

“No.. no.. Avery you can’t leave me.” Kayden got on his feet.

“I still have so many things to do for myself. I don’t want to end up wasting years of my life and living in regret.” I looked at his mother and sister. They couldn’t talk but their eyes said it all-I should forgive him.

“Listen Avery, I promise to-”

“Don’t make anymore promises to me. I don’t want to hear it. And don’t push me too hard or I’ll be forced to do what my heart is telling me to do.” I interrupted him.

A knowing look registered on his face. “Please don’t reject him.” Luna Beatrice begged me.

“How long do we have to stay apart?” Kayden asked.

“I don’t know. It might possibly take a long time, one year, two years or even five years… I can’t say. And no matter how long it is don’t try to find me if I don’t come looking for you.” I answered in a low tone.

“Avery, I can’t live-”

“Without you.” I completed his intended statement. My wolf is pissed but I am trying to calm down.

“You should focus on Corinna and your unborn pup. She needs your support at this point in time. Goodbye, Kayden.” I walked out of the bathroom.

I didn’t hear any word from them as I got dressed, packed my bag and left the room. I wasn’t escaping and neither did I reject my mate. I was leaving for good. The only thing I have left with me was my little pride. I also have to finish up my education as planned. Project should keep me busy and distracted from thinking about my mate.

I took out my cellphone to make a call to my family. When I hit the highway, I was lucky to find a taxi into town. Fortunately, each of my family members were around having dinner so I switched to video call to see their faces.

I expressed how much I love and appreciate their efforts in helping me achieve my dreams. I did a great job at hiding my tears as I explained few things to them. Just to protect my mate’s reputation, I lied about not being ready to settle down because I still want to get a master’s degree.

My father scolded me for denying my mate his right to consummation and he tried to order me to return back to black moon pack and make up with my mate. But my mind was made up, we need this space.

My mom promised to attend my graduation but I told her not to bother about it. My plan was to cut myself off completely from everyone that might lead Kayden to me again. When the call ended I threw the cellphone out through the window. I need some time to clear my head and put my wolf back in one piece. I have to stay focus at least to graduate from college.

I made a visit to Freddie grave at his family’s cemetery and asked for his forgiveness. I prayed for the safety of my family and also wished Kayden and Corinna well.
