Chapter 1502
Nash was the first to speak. "Mrs. Lucas, what exactly happened to Ben? Can you tell us everything? Let's see if there's a way we can help."
"Alright. Thank goodness he has friends like you. Otherwise, I'd have no idea what to do right now." Mrs. Lucas recounted the situation in detail but carefully omitted her own involvement. The living room fell silent, and everyone's expressions darkened.Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
"I raised Ben. I know my son. He would never do something like this. It must be a setup," Mrs. Lucas said, her voice trembling with emotion. The more she spoke, the more heartbroken she felt. All she could think about now were her Ben's virtues. Apart from refusing to listen to her about marriage and career plans, Ben had always been a good son.
"Don't worry, Mrs. Lucas. We'll figure something out," Lydia offered as she stood and gently guided Mrs. Lucas to the nearby study. "You should rest for a bit. Don't wear yourself out."
Quincy watched Lydia closely as she left the room. Only when she returned and sat down beside him did he seem to relax.
Hunter, observing this, couldn't help but comment, "You two really seem perfect for each other. I'd heard rumors about a fight between you two, but clearly, that must have been nonsense."
Looking at the way they were now, deeply in love, it seemed impossible that they had ever had a falling-out. Even if there had been disagreements, it was clear Quincy would always give in to Lydia.
Lydia chuckled, "Oh, we did have a disagreement before, but that just made us cherish each other even more. He's such a worrier, not just about me but about the baby too. He's already shopping for baby clothes, and I'm still months away from giving birth."
"I'm just being prepared," Quincy said, taking her hands in his. They exchanged a warm smile before he added, "But let's put that aside for now. We need to figure out how to get Ben out. This situation is too serious to delay." "If we wait until a conviction, it'll be too late," Caleb said. "At the very least, we need to see him and get his side of the story, though I know arranging a meeting won't be easy."
"I think we should start by investigating his assistant," Nash suggested. "Even if the assistant isn't behind the setup, the assistant might know something."
After a brief discussion, the group decided to split up to speed up the investigation.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Lucas stayed in the
study, struggling with her emotions. After some time, she splashed cold water on her face to compose herself and rejoined them. "I'm sorry for earlier and thank you for your patience. Please, I'm begging you. Please help get Ben out of this. He's my only son. If something happens to him, I won't survive."
"Don't worry, Mrs. Lucas. We'll do everything we can," Lydia reassured her, offering a few more comforting words before the group took their leave.
Mrs. Lucas personally escorted them to the door, repeatedly thanking and reminding them as they left. She stood at the gate, watching until they drove away, before returning inside.
As they got into the car, Lydia turned to Nash. "Why did you come alone today? Where's Nina?"
"She's at the hospital with Pharaoh. The doctors said his late-stage cancer is hard to treat, but with a positive mindset and consistent care, he could still have up to five years. She wants to spend as much time with him as she can," Nash said, fully understanding her decision.
