Chapter 1635
Ben had wrapped up his work at the Lucas Corporation, but instead of taking a breather, he went straight to Jamie's home.
Jamie hadn't gone to the office that day. She was busy tidying up and preparing to pick Charlie up from preschool.
After mopping the floor, she changed into fresh clothes, ready to head out. That was when Ben arrived.
He took one look at her neatly dressed appearance, strode over, and gently clasped her hand. "Perfect timing. I wanted to take you somewhere, and since you're already ready, we can leave now." "Does it have to be today?" Jamie hesitated, unsure of what he had in mind.
To her, nothing was more important than picking up Charlie.
"I was actually planning to pick Charlie up. You can come with me and stick around for a bit. I think it'll be good for you to spend some time with him."
Jamie had been mulling over when to reveal Ben's true identity to Charlie. The sooner the two spent quality time together, the easier it would be for Charlie to accept the truth when the time came.
"I understand you care about Charlie. He's my son too, and of course I care about him as much. Why don't we go out now, and then we'll both pick him up afterward? That way, nothing gets delayed," Ben offered. Ben's tone was calm yet resolute, as though he had already anticipated her concerns.
Jamie hesitated but eventually agreed. "Alright, let's go."
She got into the car with Ben, and it wasn't long before they arrived at a shopping mall.
To her surprise, Ben took her straight to the top floor, where the bridal boutique was located.
As they stopped at the entrance, Jamie stared at the rows of wedding dresses on display, feeling as though she had stepped into a dream.
She turned to Ben in astonishment. "You brought me here? This is a bridal shop. I'm not planning on buying a wedding dress. There's really no need to be here."
Their relationship had mended, but they hadn't progressed to the point of discussing marriage. A wedding dress seemed far-fetched.
But Ben stood firm. "I've already paid in full, Jamie. If you don't try them on, the money will go to waste. They don't do refunds here."
He even pulled out his phone to show her the payment record.
The series of zeros on the receipt made Jamie's heart ache just looking at it. "Why is it so expensive? If I haven't even tried anything, why can't they give a refund?"novelbin
"They really don't do refunds here,"
Ben replied, a sly grin playing at his lips. "Besides, I'm no longer a lawyer, so I can't argue for one. Jamie, just humor me and try them on. Consider it a favor. It's my way of
making up for the things I owe you."
Ben gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "If it weren't for what happened back then, we'd already be at this stage, Jamie. I've wanted to see you in a wedding dress for a long time."
The shop assistant approached, her
tone warm and welcoming. "Ma'am,
you have a fantastic figure, absolutely perfect for our designs. You'll look stunning in any of our gowns. Do you have a style in mind? I can pull a few options for you."
Before Jamie could respond, Ben gestured toward the displays. "The mermaid gown at the entrance fooks great. Oh, and the one with the long train. Let's try that too. We'll go through them all."
