Chasing Back My Ex-wife

Chapter 29

Chapter 29

At first, Lucy had planned to get off work early and go home. When she saw the car, she changed her mind.

Lucy waited till 8 p.m. and only left the office after seeing the Bentley drive off.

"Did you come out so late because you wanted to avoid me?" His voice was as cold as ice.

Lucy was startled when she saw Arthur leaning against the wall with a cigarette between his fingers. His handsome face was hidden in the darkness, and she couldn't see his expression clearly.

She wanted to ask him why he was still there, but she changed her mind at the very last minute. "Yes."

She really didn't want to see him!

Arthur straightened up and walked to her. His gaze was icy and there was a hidden look of pain in his eyes.

Lucy looked up at him directly. Since she had decided to break up with him, then she wouldn't get involved with him again!

"Lucy, you'll beg to see me!" He gripped her chin hard.

She slapped his hand away with a charming smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Then I might have to disappoint you!"

With that, she got into her car with her handbag.

Before driving off, she intentionally drove near him and blew the exhaust in his face.

Arthur wiped his face pathetically and gazed after her car gloomily. Lucy was becoming more and more daring... How had he fallen in love with such a cruel woman?!

Lucy looked at Arthur, who was in a sorry state, through the rearview mirror. She smiled slightly and felt much better.

She did not go straight home. She bought some stuff Mr. and Mrs. Figueroa liked and drove to their house.

Her parents had caused so much trouble for the Figueroa family, so she had to apologize to them in person. At the same time, she also had to repay the money her family had borrowed from them.

...

Lucy did not see Arthur again for nearly half a month.

She dealt with the company's affairs every day, went shopping with Kylah, and brought Caden to theme parks. Life went back to normal and Arthur's appearance felt like nothing but a dream.

Ring—

Ring—

That night, while Lucy was putting on a facial mask, Kylah suddenly called her.

"Why are you calling me this late? Miss me, babe?" Without Arthur causing trouble, Lucy was in a great mood.

"Oh, don't put yourself on a pedestal." Kylah joked around with her for a while, then her tone suddenly changed. "Lucy, do you know about the few major shareholders withdrawing their funds from Maddox's company?"

"Withdrawing their funds?" Lucy was shocked and tore off her mask.

"Lucy, you'll beg to see me!"

"Lucy, you'll beg to see me!"

Arthur's warning rang in her ears, and she suddenly felt a little uneasy.

Could the shareholders withdrawing their funds from Maddox's company possibly have something to do with Arthur?

Kylah's next words confirmed her guess. "Those shareholders met Arthur before they withdrew their funds. Even a fool wouldn't believe that this has nothing to do with him!"

"Did Maddox tell you that?"

"No way, I got to know all this from other people! Maddox was afraid you'd worry, and he even reminded me many times not to tell you about this!"

After Lucy hung up, her mind was a mess. She had already explained things to Arthur very clearly, so why did he still drag Maddox into their mess?

She took out her phone and searched for news related to Maddox's company.

"Several major shareholders withdraw their funds. What happened to the Pate Group?"

"Pate Group's stock prices drop again. Experts predict Pate Group to face bankruptcy and restructuring."

"The Pate Group faces its greatest crisis in history as major shareholders withdraw funds at the same time."

Lucy couldn't bear to read on after the third trending headline. There was no doubt that the shareholders' withdrawal had landed Pate Group in a major crisis.

She searched for Maddox's number from her contact list, hesitated, and didn't call him.

What would she say to Maddox on the phone? Apologize? Was there any use in that?

Lucy tossed and turned on her bed, but she couldn't think of a way to save the Pate Group from crisis. Her small company was nowhere near theirs!

She didn't sleep well at all that night.

Early the next morning, Lucy grabbed her phone and called Arthur the very moment she woke up.

No matter what, she couldn't drag Maddox, who was innocent, into trouble.

"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently busy. Please call again later."

Lucy listened to the emotionless electronic voice and hung up. After a while, she called again, but heard the same thing.

She took a deep breath to calm her agitation and went to wash up. Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.

Not in the mood for breakfast, Lucy headed straight to the company.

"Wow, Ms. Morgan, you've become a panda!" Diane ogled at Lucy's dark circles.

Lucy gave her a look, and then walked over to her. "Give me your phone."

"You can't be serious, Ms. Morgan. I just teased you once, but you want to confiscate my phone?" Diane whined.

When she usually teased Lucy, Lucy would never get angry!

When she usually teased Lucy, Lucy would never get angry!

Lucy pursed her lips, patted Diane's head, and said with a smile, "Be good, lend it to me for a while."

"...Okay." At hearing the words "be good", Diane got goosebumps all over. Lucy was so scary that day!

Lucy thought Arthur might have blocked her number, so she wanted to call him from someone else's phone. However...

"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently busy. Please call again later."

Lucy gave Diane her phone back and walked into her office with Diane watching her strangely.

She rested her chin on her hand and let her thoughts wander for a while. Then, she left her office again before her seat was even warm.

Diane watched her go and shook her head. 'Her mind is elsewhere and she looks exhausted. Is she...on her period?' Diane thought.

Lucy, who wasn't her usual self, drove towards Johnson Group. Since her calls couldn't get through, she had no choice but to look for him at his office.

"Good morning, Mrs. Johnson!"

When Lucy went into the headquarters, all the staff greeted her that way with a smile. She was displeased at the way they addressed her, so she wore a stormy expression and didn't respond.

She walked all the way to the CEO's elevator, but was stopped by the receptionist. "Sorry, Mrs. Johnson. You can't go up."

"Why?" Lucy tried her best to speak calmly.

The receptionist shot her a practiced smile and said, "Orders from Max. I'm not sure of the details

either. Perhaps you could call Mr. Johnson to ask?"

"It's fine, I'll wait for him downstairs." If her calls could go through, she wouldn't be here at all!

The receptionist led Lucy to a waiting area. She drank so much coffee that she felt like throwing up, but she still couldn't think of a good way to get upstairs.

When it was almost 11.30 a.m., Lizbeth walked in on her high heels holding a thermos.

When she saw Lucy sitting in the waiting area, her gaze sharpened, and she passed the thermos to a bodyguard behind her.

She hadn't taken revenge on Lucy for slapping her, and there Lucy was, right in front of her!

That day, she must let everyone know Lucy's true colors!

"Lucy, did you come here on purpose to apologize to me?" She walked up to Lucy and asked softly.

Lucy smiled slightly and raised her eyebrows. "Why should I apologize to you?"

She had just the bad luck to run into Lizbeth everywhere!
