Chasing Back My Ex-wife

Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Hearing the beeping dial tone after she had hung up, Arthur narrowed his eyes sharply.

Four months pregnant...

Arthur couldn't help but recall how Lucy had smiled at him sweetly a few days ago as she asked him softly about what he would do if she was pregnant.

At that time, Lucy's face had clearly been full of anticipation for conceiving their child. There might also have been a hint of caution.

However, how had he responded?

Arthur dared not think about it any further. His hands trembled slightly, and he couldn't even hold his phone steady.

"How can this be..." he said.

He had made sure to use careful protection. How could she possibly have conceived?

However, flashing back to four months ago, it had indeed been a period of time where he had been slightly out of control.

For the first time, Arthur felt some sort of emotion he couldn't describe. He felt as if he were drowning in the ocean.

How could Lucy possibly be dead?

She had always been lively and extremely clingy. She wanted nothing more than to control him.

His phone had never been as silent as it had been for the past few days, making Arthur feel lost.

Every time he went home, he saw its familiar interior, but Lucy and her stuff were missing as if they had never been there at all. He should be happy about it. Hearing the beeping dial tone after she had hung up, Arthur narrowed his eyes sharply.

However, why did he toss and turn in bed every night, unable to fall asleep no matter what?

He felt as if he would drown in guilt. What made him feel even more hopeless was the realization that he gotten used to Lucy being there.

Arthur was about to go crazy!

Bang—

The office door opened, and Chad strode in.

"Arthur, how about we go skiing or go on a vacation or something? The company's projects are all done. Let's go have fun."

Arthur looked at the grey sky outside the French windows dazedly and his he

art ached.

Chad felt a little dazed. It had only been a few days, but Arthur looked as if he had gone through a great ordeal. He had lost a lot of weight, making his features stand out even more and making him look more frigid.

Even so, Chad pretended to be lively and pushed on, "Dude, you have to enjoy life. Look at me..."

Getting no response from Arthur, Chad finally put his grin away. He stopped looking cheerful and took out a packet of cigarettes and a lighter with shaking hands. Then, he pulled out a cigarette and took a long drag to control his emotions.

Smoke drifted upwards as Chad said softly, "Arthur, do you want to attend Lucy's funeral today?"

Coincidentolly, o flosh of lightning ond o boom of thunder split the sky. The sound wos deofening.

Chod didn't wont to provoke Arthur, but he hod to let him know thot whot wos lost couldn't be gotten bock. They hod to look towords the future.

"Arthur, just odmit it. You regret it."

Arthur looked grim, ond he didn't soy o word. Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

Perhops this wos the soddest thing in the world. He hodn't opprecioted her while he hod the chonce, ond when he understood his feelings, she wos no longer there.

Meonwhile, roin continued folling outside ond dork clouds filled the sky. Roin pottered ogoinst the windows, moking the office look dim.

Arthur wos silent for some time before he soying with o bitter smile, "I'm ofroid she'll never forgive me."

Coincidentally, a flash of lightning and a boom of thunder split the sky. The sound was deafening.

Chad didn't want to provoke Arthur, but he had to let him know that what was lost couldn't be gotten back. They had to look towards the future.

"Arthur, just admit it. You regret it."

Arthur looked grim, and he didn't say a word.

Perhaps this was the saddest thing in the world. He hadn't appreciated her while he had the chance, and when he understood his feelings, she was no longer there.

Arthur lowered his eyelids and couldn't bear to ponder if he had really fallen in love with Lucy. She

wouldn't give him any chance to respond anymore.

Because she was gone.

Meanwhile, rain continued falling outside and dark clouds filled the sky. Rain pattered against the windows, making the office look dim.

Arthur stood there with his back straight, but he looked completely lifeless.

"Arthur, take good care of yourself. Even if Lucy...is gone, she'll want you to live a good life." Chad couldn't hold back from giving him a word of advice.

Arthur was silent for some time before he saying with a bitter smile, "I'm afraid she'll never forgive me."
