Chapter 670 Still Unfit For Marriage

Thomas froze, trying his best to recall Skylar's age.

After a long time, he was unable to answer. He knew very little about that daughter of his, not even her

birthday.

“I'm asking about Avery,” prompted Tobias.

“She's twenty this year,” Thomas replied at once, relieved that the conversation had returned to a

domain he was familiar with.

The favoritism was not lost on Tobias.

He produced a photograph from a vest pocket and slid it toward Thomas, who peered at the

photograph and studied the fat man with suppressed apprehension.

“And who is this fine gentleman?” he asked with a forced smile.

Although he did not know what Tobias was driving at, Thomas felt certain that the pudgy man must be

somebody important.

To be able to belong in the social circle of Ford Group's CEO must mean that he is rich, though he

doesn't look it.

Tobias watched as Thomas lay praise upon praise on the man in the photograph.

He crossed his legs and lit a cigarette. “He's a fine gentleman indeed, Mr. Jones,” he concurred

graciously, “and an even finer son-in-law, wouldn't you agree?”

Thomas detected the hint of a threat contained behind the man's level voice.

He shook his head, looking politely bewildered. Why would Tobias be concerned about Avery's

marriage?

“My daughter is still young and in no rush to marry. Besides, she's still a child. I don't think she's ready

to be a wife yet.”

Tobias said nothing. So what if she's young? That doesn't mean that she can do whatever she wants.

“What if I let you come back to Quest Group?” he suggested with a smirk.

I've laid out my hand. Time to see if he is the man I think he is. Charles as his son-in-law in exchange

for resuming control of Quest Group. I am not going to let him talk his way out of this one no matter

how much he tries to justify himself.

Thomas summoned a subordinate to investigate the man in the photograph, who returned promptly

with the results. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

Charles Walker was thirty-two years old man with a long list of criminal records under his name. He

had been admitted to a juvenile correction facility in his teens as his parents were blue-collar workers

who did not have much time to discipline their wayward son despite sharing a tiny, decrepit apartment.

To Thomas' horror, his potential son-in-law was as far removed from the wealth and luxury as he could

possibly imagine.

Thomas was just beginning to suspect Tobias's unusually thoughtful gesture to enquire after his

younger daughter's marriage when it became clear to Thomas that Tobias was giving him an

ultimatum.

If I were to allow her to marry that man, I'm basically throwing her life away. But if I don't agree to it, I

may never be able to return to Quest Group again.

As he was used to living in luxury, spending the following half of his life in poverty was more than he

could bear.

He's basically forcing my hand by only giving me three days to think about it before the offer's off the

table. I abandoned Miranda and Skylar back then over my career once. Tobias is making me relive that

choice again.

Several minutes later, Tobias descended the stairs and wandered to the garden in search of Skylar. He

saw her engaged in conversation with Colleen not far away.

Although he could not hear them from that distance, he saw that she was looking unhappy about

something from the way she pawed at the gravel with the tip of her foot.
