Skylar felt mentally unfettered as well, but when she touched her own neck, it suddenly occurred to her

that Tobias previously professed to prefer having her wear her hair loose. She was thus unsure as to

how receptive he would be toward the hairstyle that she had right now.

The production crew had already arrived at the office where Skylar went on to showcase her new

hairdo; Sharp and refreshing, bold and beautiful, she exuded the rarefied air of a queen.

In accordance with the earliest scripting, she signed off on the traveling contract in front of the

cameras. It was when she laid an eye on the articles appended that she realized that Saorise was to be

the guide on this current team.

“Have you ever traveled abroad in the past?” asked the production team's director.

“No, I've been too busy and couldn't squeeze it into my schedule, so I'm looking to take this as an

opportunity to unwind,” replied Skylar with a subtle smile.

Initially, she was not too observant and thought this to be no more than a passing question from the

director until she learned that this would be included as part of a segment that was to be featured in a

She felt something amiss once she studied the director's expression more closely. There was a hint of

sympathy in the latter's eyes, as though she was a child born into poverty, soon to have her life

transformed through a move to the big city.

Everyone in the industry knew about her humble beginnings and rags to riches story, but Skylar hated

making plays to garner pity.

If not for the deliberate exposé concerning Miranda's role in the breaking up of Thomas' marriage, she

would never have delved into her own past in such gory detail.

Just before they wrapped up for the day, she overheard the director say, “Have you tied down the

schedule on Saorise's end? I heard that she visited Beskary every year during her schooling days. That

reminiscence of youth is something we can really highlight then.”

Seated by the long table, Skylar listened in as she twiddled her fingers absentmindedly.

While other people got to go overseas for vacations every year during their schooling days, she had to

ride out from home before dawn to save on transportation.

There really was no comparison between the fortunes of different people.

After Skylar saw the production team out, she felt the lightness of her own head. While she fondled the

hair that did not even reach her shoulders, she was left with a sense of insecurity and an inexplicable

feeling of emptiness.

Conversely, Kate was rather pleased with the haircut she got this time.

“Let's get you some publicity for it.”

What, is she going to start a corny hashtag like “Short Cuts for Skylar”? On second thoughts, Skylar

figured that she would rather pass on such an awkward headliner. Isn't there anything more

She had no desire to achieve fame for its own sake because online popularity had nothing to do with

“'The Ballad of 1978' is set to be aired soon. The director decided he wants it launched during the

festive period and there's nothing we can do about it.”

She had kept a keen eye on sneak peeks for “1978” as well. Bereft of surprises, it was as abysmal as

she had anticipated. Since the box office returns would determine the order for the film's screening,

“1978” would likely be placed at the midnight time slot, which meant that the movie would not even get

to see the light of day.

Skylar chuckled. “Wasn't pinning too much hope on it anyway. I'd be a happy camper just to see it

surpass those children's movies, at least.”

Seeing how overtly optimistic she already was, Kate was averse to dealing Skylar another blow.

Judging from these subpar results, it may be hard to outdo the children's movies as well.

She had some regrets about letting Skylar sign on for this production. Although the script looked fairly

decent when they reviewed it, the incongruous plot development that translated to film had caught her

completely off guard.

Seldom had she misjudged as badly as she did, and it was unfortunate that Skylar wound up bearing

the brunt of it.

It was a different story for Amelia's “Pretty Detective.” Almost a full house for its sneak preview

screening, the feedback for the film had been positive by and large and it generated at least one billion

at the box office.

“You have to make the best of this reality show appearance. Don't let yourself be overshadowed by

Saorise, but don't show off either because that could backfire on you. You can be sure that the critics

won't have mercy on you,” Kate said.
