God Of Vengeance: Epilogue
(Twenty-two years later…)
Walking out onto the veranda, I glance at the lake before my eyes drift over my guests.
Everyone’s at the mansion for a cookout to celebrate Mamma’s eightieth birthday.
She didn’t want anything formal, so I only invited the other heads and their families over to spend the day with us.
I head toward where the men are sitting and take a seat.
Dario points to where the kids are standing in groups, and he lets out a chuckle. “Rosie is following Enzo around. He can’t shake her.”
I watch as Dario’s sixteen-year-old daughter sticks to my second-oldest son like glue. When Enzo stops and wraps his arm around her shoulder, the poor girl almost melts into his side.
Fuck.
I better have a talk with Enzo, who’s just turned twenty. I don’t want him getting any ideas until Rosie’s eighteen.
Thankfully, he gives her a brotherly hug before letting go of her.
My gaze follows Enzo as he walks to where his brother, Christiano, is talking to Angelo’s sons.
When my firstborn glances at Sienna, one of Franco’s daughters, I let out a sigh.
“Your son is staring at my daughter,” Franco mutters.
“They’re all fucking staring at each other,” I grumble.
Dario lets out a chuckle. “Love is in the air.”
“The fuck it is,” I grunt before climbing to my feet and walking to my sons.
Christiano notices me first and comes to throw his arm over my shoulders. “Having fun?”
“Not with you undressing Sienna with your eyes.”
He lets out a bark of laughter then shakes his head. “I’m not.” A serious expression tenses his features, “But if I were, would that be a problem?”
“Christ,” I sigh. “No, but ask Franco’s permission before you decide to date his daughter.”
“Of course.”
I narrow my eyes on him. “So you are interested in Sienna. She’s older than you.”C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
He just shrugs. “Only by three years.”
He gives me a playful smirk before walking to where Georgi is talking with Valentina. I watch as he goes to stand between his sister and Renzo’s son, being an overprotective big brother.
I taught him well.
Fuck, at least everyone’s keeping it in the Cosa Nostra family.
“Why are you scowling?” Gabriella asks as she comes to stand next to me.
“The kids are growing up too fast,” I mutter.
“What do you mean too fast? They’re already adults,” she argues.
“Not Gianna.” I look at my fifteen-year-old daughter, who’s sitting beside her grandmother. “She’ll always be our baby.”
I wrap my arm around Gabriella’s lower back and tug her to my side. “Everyone looks happy.”
She nods. “It was a good idea to keep things casual today.”
We walk toward the water’s edge, and I glance at the lake before looking at my wife. “Are you happy?”
She nods as she snuggles into my side. “I love having the whole family here, and Mamma’s having a lovely day.”
I turn to look at my mother, who’s laughing at something Gianna says.
Letting out a content sigh, I search over everyone until I find Carlo where he’s sitting with Emilio and enjoying a beer.
He never married and still follows me like a shadow, but soon Christiano will take over from me, and we’ll both retire.
“What are you thinking about?” Gabriella asks.
“It’s time for Christiano to step up as the next Capo dei Capi.”
“When will you make the announcement?” she asks.
“Now is as good a time as any.” Walking to the middle of the lawn, I call out, “I have something to say.” My eyes find Christiano. “Come here.” Then I look at Enzo. “You too.”
When I nod at Carlo, he sets his beer down, and getting up, he walks toward me.
Once they all join me, I place my hand on Christiano’s shoulder. “You’re twenty-two, and it’s time for you to take over the position as Capo dei Capi.”
My eldest looks exactly like me, and I know he’ll rule the Cosa Nostra with an iron first. The same way I have.
My gaze flicks to Enzo, and I say, “You’ll be your brother’s underboss. You’ll protect him at all costs.”
“Yes, Papa,” Enzo replies as he moves to stand beside Christiano. “You’ll both do whatever is needed to keep the family safe.”
My sons nod, then Carlo pats Enzo on the back. “Finally, I get to sleep in. Good luck, son.”
I scowl at Carlo. “What do you mean you get to sleep in? You’re still going to protect my ass.”
“Can your ass get up at eight instead of the crack of dawn?” he asks.
Shaking my head, I watch as all the men come to shake my sons’ hands.
It’s time for the next generation to take over, the moment bittersweet.
Gabriella wraps her arm around my back and presses a kiss to my cheek. “Does this mean we’ll get to travel more?”
“Maybe. I’ll keep an eye on the boys for a year or two. Just to make sure they don’t fuck up.”
She leans her head against my chest. “We raised strong men.”
“We did.” I press a kiss to her hair.
As I look at the family I’ve spent most of my life protecting, I know I’ll never fully step down.
I’ll protect them until I exhale my final breath.
