Chapter 1172 Sewer System Fails

*For the sake of your safety, sir, I'd suggest you return to Sunrise now," the assistant said with a bow.

*Return to Sunrise? Why?"

A sudden thought sprouted in Samson's mind.

He watched as a giant signboard got blown off by the strong wind and crashed down onto the street. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.

He laughed maniacally when the signboard broke into pieces.

"A rare storm? More like a rare chance! And I will be here to seize it! This time, even if the mayor is here himself, he will not take my hospitals away from me!"

Samson curled his lips into a maniacal grin.

At that very moment, his confidence grew and the new mayor was no longer a problem.

On the other hand, Kaze wanted to go home after leaving Victoria International Hospital.

On the way home, a heavy storm descended, so he changed his destination to the city council instead.

*Caleb, Lou, the storm is unusually heavy. I heard it's going to be unprecedentedly huge. Can the city's sewer system handle the situation?"

Kaze summoned the deputy mayors, Caleb and Lou, to discuss the situation.

The storm was not just huge, but it was sudden and unprecedented. Kaze had a bad feeling that things might go out of control.

"Mr. Mayor, the weather forecast said this storm will be one of the biggest in the past hundred years. I'm afraid our sewer system can't handle the rainfall."

Both Lou and Caleb took the matter seriously.

Kaze's gaze grew cold. "Can't handle? The lives and properties of the citizens are at stake and you are telling me the sewer system can't handle it?"

Caleb and Lou bowed immediately.

With a bitter look, Caleb said, "Mr. Mayor, the basic infrastructure of the city has always been lackluster, especially our sewer system due to the lack of maintenance. Many paths and pipes needed to be repaired."

"Whenever there is heavy rain, the city would see flash floods, which may also last for days. Now a huge storm is coming..." Lou added.

Kaze said, "The basic infrastructure isn't good enough? I might have just come back a while ago but I know that the city's infrastructure goes through huge repairs and inspections every year. The city council approved the funds, and you are telling me it is still not enough? Are those repairs and inspections just for show?

"You two have been in the deputy mayor role for so many years, shouldn't you two explain to me why this is happening?"

The two of them bowed even lower when Kaze questioned them.

"Mr. Mayor, some things might not sound good when made verbally. When the previous mayor was in power, he would order the deconstruction and construction of major roads. However, the underground sewer system remained untouched," Caleb said after he decided to bite the bullet.

*Previous mayor? You mean Trent Fuller?" Kaze asked with furrowed brows.

Johnson could never pressure the deputy mayors to this extent, making them afraid of him.

The only one who had the power to do that would be Trent, the mayor before Johnson.

Caleb shot a gaze at Lou.

Lou knew he was strapped on the same boat as Caleb, so he was forced to nod and acknowledge the matter. "Yes, sir!"

"No wonder that old geezer can stay in power for twenty years," Kaze scoffed.

However, it was not the time to hold Trent responsible.

He said strongly, "Whether the sewer system can handle it or not, scramble whatever men we have to help the people. Find out the heavily affected areas and evacuate the people to a safe place as soon as possible."

*Sir, the storm caught us off guard and we are facing a shortage of manpower.." Caleb said.

Kaze waved and said, "I will contact the strategic department to request help. Tonight I will be here, overseeing the operation myself."
