Chapter 5
I was discharged from the hospital after just a few days. My sister and I handled all the arrangements for Mona’s funeral. Jackson, as if dead to the world, didn’t even bother sending a single message.
The day Mona was buried, the wind howled fiercely, just like the day she passed.
I was incredibly weak, but I still held her urn in my hands, with my sister supporting me by my side.
After only a few steps, I began coughing so much I couldn’t move. My sister, full of concern, gently helped me catch my breath.
How could my sweet Mona, so full of life, now be gone–reduced to this small box?
People behind us whispered:
“How could her father not be here on such an important day?”
“Don’t you know? The mistress has completely captivated him!”
“That man is no good. And that mother and son? Shameless. They’re still taking over the family even now. Poor Mona!”
“I agree. It’s heartless of him. She was his daughter, after all. To not even show his face… it’s too cruel.”
My sister shed tears too.
“Dear sister, let Mona rest in peace. I hope she is reborn into a better family in the next life, without suffering so much again.”
Since our parents passed, my sister had been running the family business, constantly exhausted. Now, with everything happening to me, the white hairs on her head seemed to increase daily.
“I’m going to divorce him.”
My sister sighed heavily, then nodded.
“Alright. Whatever you decide to do, remember that the entire family will always be your strongest support.”
After leaving the cemetery, I went back to my sister’s home.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Jackson’s company isn’t clean. When I return, I’ll gather all the evidence. I’ll need you to get the tax authorities to take a good look into it.”
My sister nodded.
Suddenly, my phone lit up with a call from Jackson.
“Larissa, don’t push things too far. It’s not Mona’s fault she couldn’t pull through. Why did you suspend Elaine? How are people supposed to see her now? How is she going to survive with her child?”
“The dead can’t come back to life. Stop making things harder for Elaine. Doesn’t her child count too? You should consider her situation.”
I rolled my eyes.
Elaine, with her second–rate degree, found it hard to hold a job. She had been through several, none lasting long. When Jackson wanted her to work for his company, we had a huge argument. Eventually, we compromised, and Elaine ended up working under me.
After Mona’s accident, I hadn’t had time to deal with her. But now, it was time to settle the score.
“Well, Mr. Jackson, the champion of mistresses, do you know what today is?”
There was silence on the other end, followed by some vague murmurs.
“Today is the day your ill–fated daughter, Mona, was buried.”
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner? Where are you? I’ll come right away!”
“Are you even worthy? Just stay with your little mistress and beloved son. Don’t sully my ground.”
I hung up the phone.
