Heartstrings on Fire (Agnes and Jared)

Chapter 709

Chapter 709

Jared snorted, "What, afraid I'll catch wind of your affair, Agnes? You're supposed to be Ryder's

fiancée, aren't you? How did you become Mr. Kearney's sweetheart?"

Jared had arrived with the full intention of having a calm, rational conversation with Agnes.

After all, he knew things might not be as they seemed.

Just like with him and Valeria, there were extenuating circumstances.

Perhaps Agnes was merely Kearney's date for the evening.

But every time he stood before Agnes, seeing her look of disdain and coldness, Jared couldn't help but

prod her.

As expected, Agnes' expression shifted.

Agnes replied, "Mr. Whitfield, I don't think you're in a position to question me. "

Jared's face soured.

But Agnes had already turned away, "The moon is beautiful tonight, Jared. You asked me to think

about something a few days ago, and I've made my decision."

Agnes turned to look at Jared.

In that moment, Jared found himself holding his breath.

His heart felt like it had stopped.

He was incredibly nervous.

Jared had a bad feeling.

He had a hunch that Agnes was about to reject him.

Jared wanted to stop her from speaking.

But he was rooted in place, his face devoid of any emotion, as if waiting for her next words.

After looking at him, Agnes turned her gaze to the shimmering water of the pool, "Jared, we can't go

back to the way things were, and I don't want to. We can be regular friends, and co-parents to

Nocturne. Nocturne and I will live in Manhattan, but I won't stop you from visiting him. Of course, if you

prefer, we can be strangers, just like we were for the past four years."

After saying all this, Agnes felt a sense of relief.

Many things had been bothering her, like a maze that had trapped her. Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

Agnes desperately needed an exit.

Her fear of the unknown was causing her panic.

If she couldn't find an exit, she would create one herself, not knowing if it led to hell or freedom.

But once the decision was made, there could be no regrets.

Agnes reiterated seriously, "Friend or stranger, the choice is yours."

Agnes didn't dare to look into Jared's eyes.

From his aura, she could sense that he was not pleased with her answer.

An awkward silence ensued.

Agnes felt that Jared had a natural ability to stifle others with his aura.

She couldn't bear to stay there any longer.

As Agnes turned to leave, Jared caught her by the arm, "Tell me, are you rejecting me because of

Ryder, or because of Kearney, or both of them?"

"I'm rejecting you because I don't have the confidence to love you anymore." Agnes was blunt.

This was what she truly felt.

Love was sometimes sweet as honey, other times a damaging sword.

She didn't want to hurt Jared, nor did she want to torment herself.

Four years had passed, and although it hurt, she had grown accustomed to the pain.

But if she were to get back together with Jared, she didn't have the confidence to love him as she once

did, nor did she believe that Jared would feel the same way towards her.

So, it was better not to change anything.
