Chapter 301
Hearing Casper's voice, Nova's heart nearly jumped out of her chest. She instinctively wrapped her arms around her head. "It wasn't me..."
She curled up, desperately trying to protect herself. Dillon grabbed her by the arms and dragged her over to a wooden chair nearby.
"Nova, you've been pretty lucky so far, but this time, your luck's run out."
"Please, don't kill me, please..."
Nova couldn't bring herself to look up. Her eyes darted around nervously, and her actions were overly dramatic. Both men found her frantic behavior irritating.
"Nova, be straight with us. What else have you and Aaron been up to? Mr. Casper might let you live if you come clean."
Nova shook her head, peeking through her fingers at the imposing figure in front of her.
"He won't spare me. I know he won't."
"That depends on what you tell us," Dillon said, quickly tying her to the chair, which only made her more terrified.
Casper stepped closer, placed his foot on the chair, and grabbed her by the throat. "Nova, given your streak of luck, tell me something I don't know, and maybe, just maybe, I'll give you a chance to live."
Nova had no idea what Casper knew, but she was pretty sure he didn't know about the child. Aaron had warned her never to tell Casper about the child. But now, with her life hanging by a thread, she couldn't hold back. "Eliza's child is yours. Does that count?"
Both men were stunned, as if lightning had struck them. Casper felt like his world had just been turned upside down. His eyes widened in disbelief, and for a moment, he was completely thrown off balance.
Dillon stepped forward and slapped Nova hard. "If you're lying, I can kill you right now."
"I'm not lying," Nova's lips were bleeding, and her eyes were red with fear. "Eliza was already pregnant when she ran to Oak Falls. She married that old man to give herself and her child a legitimate identity. Everything I've said is true. If you don't believe me, just get a DNA test." This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
"What else don't I know?" Casper's voice was deep and raspy, filled with a bitter realization that he'd never once questioned the paternity of Eliza's child. "There's more..." Nova swallowed hard. "...If I tell you, will you let me go?"
"You're making demands before you even speak?" Casper tightened the tie around her neck, nearly choking her. "Where do you get the nerve?"
"This... this is a matter of life and death. Promise to let me go, and I'll tell you."
She stared at Casper like a fish out of water. Casper hated being manipulated, but the words "life and death" made his heart clench.
"Speak."
"Promise me first."
Casper loosened his grip, allowing Nova to take a few deep breaths, though the tie still hung loosely around her neck.
After catching her breath, Nova finally spoke, "Today, Aaron plans to meet Eliza at the mall. Eliza will bring the child, and Aaron might try to harm the child."
"What do you mean, harm the child?" Dillon's tone was grave. "Nova, you'd better explain clearly to Mr. Casper."
"Aaron has always wanted to get rid
of that child. The last time the child
fell into the sea because Aaron threw him. But you saved him. This time, he plans to throw the child from a high place."
