Chapter 714

Over the years, Matthew’s sins had piled up like a mountain of discarded coffee cups!

One scandal that shook the nation was the exploitation of young women through the Chamberlain

Foundation, a so–called benevolent fund under the Chambers Group umbrella. The public outcry was

deafening, with the reputation of the Chambers Group shattered beyond repair.

Jeff had indeed assembled a top–notch legal team for his eldest son.

Everyone thought that, despite the litany of charges, the absence of a murder charge combined with

slick lawyers and corporate maneuvering would have Matthew walking free in seven to eight years.

But no one saw this coming! Five days into Matthew’s detention, new evidence

surfaced with the police.

Simultaneously, the accomplice previously mentioned by Elva – who had helped Matthew dispose of a

body and had witnessed the whole tragic incident – had a crisis of conscience and turned himself in,

laying bare all of Matthew’s misdeeds.

Under the pressure of the formidable K Group and Abernathy Group, it seemed that even the once–

feared Chambers Group was no longer so intimidating.

Once the favored son and heir to the Chambers Group presidency, Jeff’s pride, Matthew was now a

fallen man, scorned and spat upon by the masses!

Matthew had always believed he was the smartest of his siblings, yet his downfall was the most tragic

of them all.

Watching his most hated adversary crumble, Avery’s face was as dark as if he were attending a Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

funeral.

“Mr. Chambers, although things didn’t go as you planned, we’ve finally avenge Mrs. Camille Chambers

one way or the other. With a murder case on his hands, no matter how much Mr. Jeff Chambers wants

to protect him, Matthew won’t see the outside of a prison cell again. You should be celebrating,” Harvey

said soothingly.

“Celebrating? How can I celebrate when I didn’t get what I wanted most?” In the office, Avery’s eyes

scanned the flood of negative online reviews hammering the Chambers Group and the plummeting

stock prices.

His gaze was shadowed with coldness, “I planned to trade those incriminating documents for

Matthew’s shares in the company. With those, I would surpass Jeff and take control of the company.

Then, I would expose everything he did to my mother; let public opinion take him down and kick him

out of the Chambers Group for good. Not like this. Not with everything falling apart and us both taking

damage!”

As the CEO of the Chambers Group, any turmoil within the company meant an endless mess for him to

clean up.

He had intended to use Evadne and Thaddeus to eliminate Matthew, reaping the benefits without

getting his hands dirty. Now, it seemed he had shot himself in the foot!

Evadne had mocked him, saying one couldn’t have more than they deserve.

After all the hardships he and his mother had endured to claw their way back into the Chambers Group,

after all the humiliations and careful planning to reclaim what was his, why couldn’t he have it all? He

deserved the best of everything! Including her.

Harvey, daring not to even breathe, began to sweat profusely.

This debacle was poised to hit the Chambers Group harder than any crisis before. The plummeting

stock was just one aspect; navigating the political and business landscape would be treacherous. The

days of vying with the Abernathy Group might be coming to an end.

“By the way, has Elsie made any moves lately?” Avery suddenly asked, his voice icy.

“Ms. Archer has been at the Velvet Haven from dusk till dawn, nothing unusual beyond her daily tasks,”

Harvey responded hastily.

“She’s been working by my side for a long time. Give her an extended vacation.” Avery suggested

nonchalantly, his long finger tapping the desk, “If I keep her under constant surveillance, how can she

meet the people she wants to?”

Harvey’s heart skipped a beat, “Mr. Chambers, are you suggesting Ms. Archer is a mole?”

Avery gave him a chilling look, “If not her, should I suspect you?”

Harvey was at a loss for words, struggling to speak, “But Ms. Archer has been with you for years,

utterly devoted. She’s never failed in any task you’ve given her. To suspect her of betrayal, honestly,

from years of camaraderie, I can’t believe she’d do such a thing‘

“Devoted to me?” Avery raised an eyebrow, his gaze turning frosty, “Don’t insult me. Who does she

think she is? Even Elvis, Evadne’s own brother, the Mr. Avery Ashbourne of the Ashbourne family, is

out of her league. Does she not know her place? I want to see if Elsie will help me take out Elvis. If she

can’t, I can’t guarantee humane treatment for her under my roof.”

Harvey was stunned. So, Mr. Chamberlain was keeping Elsie around just to use her to eliminate Elvis.

Some suspicions, once rooted, never get overturned.

Just then, Harvey’s phone vibrated. He answered immediately, his face paling in an instant.

“What is it?” Avery demanded.

“Mr. Avery Chambers, I just got word that Mr. Jeff Chambers sent lawyers and a secretary for a secret

half–hour meeting with Matthew at the detention center!”

Harvey was anxious, “Could Matthew have transferred the shares?”

“Get the car! To Elmsworth Hospital!” Avery’s eyes flashed with fury as he stormed out of the office.

Meanwhile, over at Silverlake Harbor.

Evadne stood before the full–length mirror, dressed in a sleek black suit, her raven hair cascading over

her shoulders and her lips a bold red. The reflection showed more than just a woman; it was an

embodiment of quiet authority and determination, an unusual resolve etched into her delicate features.

Today was the day she would officially step into the spotlight as President K at the board meeting.

It signified the dawn of a new era for the K Group, and with it, the battle drums of corporate warfare

were sounding.

“How’s my lady feeling? Nervous?” Thaddeus‘ brawny arms wrapped around her slender waist from

behind, his warm lips teasing the flawless skin of her neck with feigned casualness.

Evadne squirmed in his embrace, tickled by his kisses. The formidable persona she’d worked so hard

to craft was crumbling under his playful advances, “How could I not be tense? Those old foxes on the

board are probably plotting their moves to try and intimidate me.”

“Don’t worry, I’ve got your back.” Thaddeus nuzzled her neck and planted kisses on her soft skin, his

voice husky with reassurance, “Come back to me if they give you any trouble. I’ll be your knight in

shining armor.”

“Knight in shining armor? I’d be lucky if you didn’t leave my back sore from your own ‘chivalry‘,” Evadne

replied with a bashful glance downward, her voice slightly husky.

The night before, Thaddeus had been insatiable, exploring new heights of passion with an intensity

they had never ventured into before. She felt both embarrassed and utterly lost in the depths of their

intimacy.

This morning, she was too weak to even get out of bed. It was he who had carried her to the shower for

a bath. And, inevitably, they had been swept up in a wave of desire once again.

She shouldn’t have brought it up. Now, Thaddeus seemed revved up once more, his eyes darkening

with desire as his hand slowly climbed higher, unbuttoning the top two buttons of her blouse.

“No, we can’t,” Evadne covered his hand with hers, her body trembling slightly under his imposing

presence down.

“The meeting is still a ways off.” Thaddeus whispered huskily, nibbling her flushed earlobe as he

seduced her, “I’ll be gentle. I won’t let you exert yourself at all. Evadne, let me take care of you one

more time, please?”
