Hushed Echoes

Marco sat back feeling relaxed, he had a confidence that he was going to hook the job, Marco overheard some of the questions thrown at the applicants since the door was left open, he heard the director bombarding the applicants with all sorts of questions, even though he could not see the man physically, he knew definitely that it would soon be his turn to meet him face-to-face and give a brilliant account of himself.

When the number of the applicants has reduced so greatly he began to notice a particular girl who was sitting next to him, apart from the person who was currently being interviewed, they were the only two people left, the others left as soon as they were through with the interview.

He observed that the girl was very attractive and she was gorgeously dressed too, he quickly turned his eyes away and paid attention once again robrhe voice of the director and that of the applicants.

Few seconds after, the applicant cane out and the receptionist called on the girl to go into the office, the girl quickly went in leaving Marco as the last applicant on the list of the interview.

“Good morning sir” she greeted the director

“Yeah beautiful, how are you doing?”

“Iam fine sir, thank you” said the girl, still standing.

“Come on, sit down and feel comfortable”.

The girl sat down and crossed her legs.

“What’s your name?” The director asked.

“My name is Aria”.

“Aria Mensa”

“Oh nice name, well Iam Mr Desmond, Iam the director of this company”

“Oh, I see” the girl retorted.

“So what is your education qualification?” The director asked, using his handkerchief to wipe his face.

“Erm… Iam highschool certificate holder sir”.

“Highschool certificate?” The director exclaimed.

“Yes sir” Aria replied.

“You see young girl….” The director continue, “.. this job is exclusively reserved for a B. sc holder with a minimum of a second class upper”

“But sir I really need this job, I passed out of highschool three years ago and since then I’m doing nothing to earn a living, I need to do something so I can cater for my needs”

“But you don’t look like an unemployed” the director observed, ” you look magnificent in that suit skirt, when I first saw you I thought to myself that you must have worked in one big organization before” he looked squarely into her eyes, ” are you really serious about wanting the job?”.

She nodded repeatedly.

“Then you can have it” the director declared.

“Are you serious sir?” Aria screamed with excitement.

“Of course, all you have to do is meet me at Sheraton hotel this evening at about 9pm in room 103 and the job will automatically be yours”.

The director walked over to her seat and lifted her chin up.

“Room 103 huh?” Aria said with a smirk.

“103 and on time” the director repeated with a smile.

“Okay, I will be there” Aria agreed.

Marco was still waiting to be called, although he overheard the conversation between the director and Aria, he was not in anyway perturbed, after all he was the next and the last person to be interviewed, all that mattered was for him to give a good account of himself, present his perfect certificate and the job would be his.

Aria cane out of the office looking exicted, without looking at Marco’s direction she walked away feeling ontop of the world.

Marco got up immediately and looked at the receptionist who in turn beckon him to go in since it was his turn, he took two steps which could have landed him inside the director’s office, as he approached the door, he was surprised to see the director coming out with his portfolio in his left hand.

“The interview is closed, it’s closed already” the director yelled at him and walked away briskly, Marco gaze followed him until he was completely out of sight.

Marco was stunned into silence, the director’s outburst had gone a long way in sealing his lips, he was not able to recover from the shock, his mouth trembled.
