Chapter 482
Chapter 482 It's Him
After their conversation concluded, Harper noticed that the back entrance of the construction site, where she and Benjamin entered after the incident, had been opened.
Harper furrowed her brow, not daring to blink, fearing she might miss any tiny clue. She froze when she saw the man coming out from inside.
Harper couldn't believe it. Quickly grabbing her phone, she opened the camera mode to zoom in, double-checking she wasn't mistaken. She muttered, "It's him?" Harper's face turned serious, filled with shock.
Annie asked, "Who is it?"
Before Harper could respond, the driver interjected, "Isn't that a man? Are you sure you're not mistaken?"
Annie was a bit embarrassed but immediately replied, "He did it on purpose. He's scared of getting caught red-handed once I catch wind of it. Truth is, he swings both ways. Just the thought of it makes me cringe, man. I'm sorry you have to see this."
Annie lowered her head, her voice sounding teary. Upon hearing this, the driver had no more doubts and believed her completely, feeling even more sympathetic towards Annie.
Annie whispered, "Who is this?"
Harper responded calmly, "Mr. Kerr's assistant, Ray Seward."
Harper's expression soured when she realized that Ray was the person who collaborated with Frank. This was something she hadn't anticipated at all. Ray was known to be honest and had interacted with her a few times, primarily due to Charlie. Their encounters left a positive impression on her. Ray always carried out his duties without complaint and maintained a respectful demeanor.
Though Harper had been suspicious of Frank and had mentally prepared herself for the possibility of his involvement in this matter, she never imagined he could convince Ray to collaborate with him. So, she was utterly shocked, unable to believe it.
She thought, "If it was Ray, did Mr. Kerr know? Could Ray hide it from him, considering Mr. Kerr spent so much time with him? This situation seemed even more terrifying if Mr. Kerr was aware or involved." The more Harper thought about it, the deeper it seemed that the whole thing was hiding.
But she couldn't fathom Frank's motives for such actions.
Harper remained silent, her face solemn. Annie remarked, "Harper, never underestimate how powerful the temptation of self-interest can be."
"I understand that money and status can lead people astray, but is there really not even the slightest sign of betrayal from someone you're with daily?"
"How could a cautious person ever let themselves be found out?" Annie replied casually.
But Harper sank into silence because of this response.
At this moment, Frank's car made a U-turn. Annie gently pressed Harper's head and whispered, "They're turning back."Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
Harper remained still, her head still being held by Annie.
The car passed by the construction site gate, then gradually accelerated. Ray glanced at Frank, who was wearing a hat and mask. He asked, "Mr Parker, where are you taking me?" en
"Let's grab a meal together. I have some matters to discuss with you."
"When can I leave here then?"
"Soon. Don't worry. Once I make arrangements, you and your family can leave together."
"Okay." Ray nodded, though he was still worried.
He asked again, "We are not gonna get caught, right?"
Frank's eyes narrowed slightly, hinting at a faint smile, but upon closer inspection, there was nothing. His face was completely obscured, so his current expression couldn't be seen. All that could be heard was his calm reply. "Of course not. It's been many days now. Has anyone suspected you? Don't panic, and don't feel guilty."
Ray nodded obediently.

Frank glanced at Ray's expression through the rearview mirror before disdainfully retracting his gaze and pressing down on the accelerator, increasing the speed.
Inside the taxi, Annie released Harper's head as the car became entirely out of sight. She asked, "What do we do now?"
