I Refuse to Divorce

Chapter 57

Chapter 57

Zoe felt an overwhelming sense of humiliation.

Mason made her feel like nothing more than a woman for his amusement despite carrying the title of Mrs. Lockwood. From the past until now, he hadn't shown her an ounce of respect. In his eyes, she was nothing more than a cheap plaything akin to a prostitute.

Within the media room echoed Zoe's pitiful pleas and Mason's satisfied breaths. It had been a long time since he felt this comfortable.

Mason lowered his head to look at Zoe. Unable to see her face, he grew dissatisfied, pulling her black hair gently to the side to kiss her.

Zoe, lost in his grasp, held a fruit knife she had found during the struggle.

Feeling desolate, feeling absurd, she knew that leaving this room meant returning to her former life as the seemingly respectable but utterly submissive Mrs. Lockwood. Mason might confine her at home, turning her into a woman hidden from society.

Zoe didn't want that.

She didn't want to return to the past. She didn't want Mia to go to jail. She was running out of options.

When Mason was pushed away unexpectedly, he stared at Zoe in astonishment. At this moment, both of them were in an undignified state.

Zoe knelt on the sofa, gripping the fruit knife tightly. Despite her trembling hands, she held onto it as if that insignificant blade could protect her.

Mason's dark eyes turned colder.

Of course, he wasn't in the mood anymore.

Leisurely, he pulled up his zipper, disdainfully looking at her as he sneered, "Mrs. Lockwood, are you planning to murder your husband with this? Do you have the ability for that?"

Zoe, with a pale face, trembled.

Trembling lips, she stared straight at Mason.

"Mason, do you just choose not to believe me? I didn't do it on purpose back then. Do you want me to say I did? Do you just want to believe that I deliberately wanted to be Mrs. Lockwood?"

Mason remained silent.

Silence sometimes meant consent.

Suddenly, Zoe smiled bitterly. "Yes, you indeed have every reason not to believe me. Well, Mason, can I atone for my sins now? Can I use myself to atone for the mistakes I made, to atone for my youthful ignorance, and to atone for the time when I loved you so much?"

The knife's tip changed direction, aiming at herself. Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.

The cold edge sliced through.

Her delicate wrist was soon covered in fresh blood, drops falling one by one.

On the carpet, a bloodstain quickly formed.

It was a horrifying sight.

Mason was stunned. He hadn't expected Zoe to go this far.

He took a step forward when Zoe retreated. She seemed oblivious to the pain in her wrist as if she didn't know that losing so much blood could be fatal.

Still smiling, she asked him, "Is this enough, Mason? Otherwise, I'll continue until you're satisfied, Mr. Mason."

She cut herself with determination, one cut after another, without any hesitation. The girl who used to fear pain seemed to have no concept of it at this moment.

Mason stared at her, watching her resolute demeanor.

He knew that if he didn't compromise, Zoe could die from blood loss right there. At this moment, she wasn't afraid of death.

Besides shock, perhaps there was something else trembling within his soul, stirring his inner self.

Finally, Mason heard himself give in.

"Fine! I'll make the Wright family drop the charges, and Mia can go home tonight."

The fruit knife fell to the ground.

Zoe, weakened by blood loss, collapsed onto the sofa, her entire body covered in fresh blood.

It was an image Mason would never forget in his lifetime.

Zoe woke up. It was already two in the morning.

Soft lighting, white walls, and a faint medicinal scent lingered in the air.

She was in the VIP ward at Lockwood Hospital.
