In Ruins: A Dark High School Bully Romance (A Black Falls High Novel Book 1)

In Ruins: Chapter 40

It was nearly three in the afternoon when I finally went home. My parents were out for the weekend, so they didn’t miss me since I’d spoken to them before going to the game the night before.

I clutched the notebook in my hand and got out of my car, not bothering to go to my house first. I marched to Fox’s and knocked on the door. When he didn’t answer, I opened it, knowing someone had to be home since there was a car I didn’t recognize sitting in his driveway.

I marched up to his bedroom, ready to tell him to go to hell when I heard voices coming from within. I paused outside the nearly closed door, breathing hard as Juliet’s voice filtered through the crack.

‘I want this, Fox. I know you do too.’

‘Why are you like this, Juliet? I tried to get you to do this for months, but you always said no. It’s not like you’re a fucking virgin,’ Fox shot back. I swallowed hard, trying to control my breathing as I listened. He told me they broke up, so why the hell was she in his bedroom? Then it hit me like a fist to the face. He’d been lying the entire time. I had the notebook to prove it. If he’d lied to me about his feelings, then this shouldn’t come as a big shocker.

‘Why are you being like this?’ she countered. ‘You’ve wanted to have sex for ages, Fox. I’m giving you the in, and you’re being a jerk about it. I’ll even fuck the guys.”

Fox let out a soft chuckle.

‘You know how I feel, Juliet. And you know how they feel.”

‘And you know what I told you. If you don’t want to, I can always tell-‘

‘Shut up,’ he snarled. I flinched and moved to the wall beside the door as Fox’s footsteps sounded out. They stopped a moment later.

‘I told you to leave Rosalie alone. I fucking meant it, Juliet. You will not even look in her direction.’

“You’ve had me on her for a long time, Fox. I did what you wanted. Now give me what I want, baby,’ she purred back. ‘You know how to make it go away.’

Fox was quiet. All I could hear in that silence was the roar of my pulse in my ears.

‘And if I do this, you stop your shit? You delete everything?’This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .

Juliet giggled. ‘Yes.’

More silence met my ears before Fox spoke again.

‘Come here,’ he whispered in a shaky voice. I nearly gagged when I heard the unmistakable sounds of kissing and heavy breathing followed by the dull thud of someone losing their clothes and the sounds of a zipper coming undone.

I stood outside his door as the ugly sounds flooded my ears. The creaking of the bed. The soft moans of Juliet. Fox’s heavy breathing.

Finally, I found my courage and stepped forward. I would not play their games anymore. I flung the door open. It banged against the wall and Fox sat up abruptly beneath the covers, no shirt on. It didn’t take a genius to figure out Juliet was missing her clothes beneath the sheets.

‘Rosie,’ Fox choked out, struggling to untangle himself from his bedding. I glared at him as he rushed to me, his boxers still on at least.

‘It’s not what you think.’

‘It doesn’t matter,’ I said, my voice stronger than I expected. I shoved the notebook into his bare chest. ‘I’m only bringing back that thing you’ve been looking for.’ I stared past Fox to see Juliet smiling at me from her spot in his bed. I shook my head and looked to Fox, whose face was a mask of devastation.

‘Rosie, don’t. Please. Let me explain.’ He reached out for me as I backed away.

‘No need, Fox. Your book answered a lot of questions. And this?’ I nodded to Juliet. ‘Proved the rest.’

‘Rosie, it’s not like that! Stop!’ He reached for me again, but I lifted my hand and smacked him across his face. He stood, stunned, gaping at me, my red handprint on his cheek.

‘Your plan was to ruin me. But you didn’t. You only strengthened me. If it’s games you want to play, then let’s play, Fox,’ I hissed, breathing hard as I glared at him. ‘Try to keep up.’

I backed out of his doorway, taking in the terror on his face as he stared back at me.

‘Rosie,’ he choked out, tears slipping down his cheeks. ‘No.

I kept moving, my eyes locked on his, and didn’t turn around until I was well out of his room.

And then I ran.

I didn’t look back. There was nothing left to see anyway.
