Chapter 826 I Have a Three-Part Plan
"You're right," Joseph said as his eyes were tinged with self-blame. "I wasn't in the right frame of mind and didn’t think things over carefully."
Given how much Chloe valued the child, it was unlikely that she would give up just based on Noah's one-sided words. Even if she disliked Joseph, she would at least clarify things with Vanya.
"Really? You finally noticed something’s fishy?" Samuel's eyes lit up. "Give me 7 million as a consultation fee and I'll continue analyzing the case for you." Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Gabriel grinned. "I'll give you a discount, 6 million dollars. I can analyze the case too, and I'm equally as good as Sam."
Birds of a feather flock together, after all, meaning that these men were as intelligent as the next. It was just that Samuel used his brain on cracking legal cases while Gabriel used his in more… personal pursuits.
Joseph side-eyed his two friends, his cold gaze chilling the atmosphere. It was clear that their attempt at lightening the mood had failed. Seeing his reaction, they wisely cut the crap and returned to the topic at hand. "So, what's your plan?"
Chloe and Noah's situation was unique. The former, although possessing blood ties to the Sullivans, had only recently returned to the family fold. The latter had no blood ties to the family, but he did have a deep relationship with the Sullivans. If Desmond were to interfere, no one had any idea who he would side with.
"I have a three-part plan," Joseph said with determination. He stood as straight as a soldier at attention, his expression solemn. Those who knew him well could easily sense he was anxious.
"If you need our help, just say the word," Gabriel said in a serious manner.
"Not for now." Joseph pulled out his phone and dialed Vince’s number. "I’m giving you an address. Find Zoelle and ask her about what happened between Noah and Chloe last night. If she refuses to say, figure out a way to bring her to me. Worst case scenario, take back the cajoper we gave. I’m sure she'll compromise then."
He had already sent the herbs but Otto had yet to agree, so he had not taken them back. Furthermore, Chloe was with Zoelle apart from the time she was with him last night, so Zoelle should notice if there was anything unusual yesterday.
Joseph then called Lucas in and ordered, "Have Emily go to the Sullivan manor and ask for Chloe. Tell her that Chloe might be in danger."
"Yes, sir." Lucas nodded and immediately went out to look for Emily. Fortunately, he knew her home address. She might not answer his call otherwise since it was currently the middle of the night.
After giving instructions to the two, Joseph sent urgent orders to Imperium to monitor the Sullivan manor. He told them to find out if Desmond was home and to make sure Chloe was safe. He did not dare to show up in front of Chloe openly. Not wanting to annoy her, he knew he had to do things carefully.
Their failed relationship left not only Chloe with scars. Joseph was scared too. He feared he would take the wrong step, worried that her resentment toward him would grow instead of diminish.
In the years since Imperium's establishment, the only time he had given such an urgent order was when he was searching for his mother. Today marked the second time. Those who worked within the organization had been meticulously selected from special forces, possessing top-tier obedience and efficiency. Barring any unexpected occurrences, there would likely be news before dawn.
Two hours later, Vince brought Zoelle, who had been partying in a bar, before Joseph. She looked reluctant but she did not bolt. She plopped onto the vintage green leather couch and said, "Hurry up
and ask your questions. I want to get to the next party."
Joseph raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised at Vince's efficiency.
Vince grinned and said, "Someone in the bar was about to spike her drink. I saw and helped out."
Zoelle had been stumped. She had seen her fair share of drugging, but encountering someone from the fighting world was a first for her. Based on the muscles on his arms, he was capable of crippling her with a single punch, so she had not dared not make any reckless moves. She never expected Vince to easily subdue the man in a matter of moments either.
While Zoelle maintained her outward composure, she was very grateful for his intervention. His imposing size indeed provided a sense of security.
"Did Chloe have some sort of conflict with Noah last night?" Joseph asked as he stared at Zoelle.
She shrugged nonchalantly. "I had a conflict with Chloe too."
"Huh?" Joseph was taken aback.
"But it's not important," she dismissed, "After all, we're not that close anyway. As for her and Noah… Are you seriously asking me?"
Joseph's face sank. "Just tell me."
Zoelle wrinkled her nose disdainfully and said, "Well, you and Chloe sneaked around in the courtyard behind Noah’s back that night. Do I need to say more?”
