MY UNWANTED GUEST
“Shit! Shit! Shit!” I banged my hand against the steering wheel, already through the roof as I watched the cab Lily boarded drive past. I was boiling in anger and disappointment; it was always this way when I and Lily fought – it never felt good.
I laid my head against the wheel, taking deep breaths, reminiscing what happened moments ago with Lily. After some time, I decided to just go home and rest and so I turned on the car and drove off.
On getting home, the sight that met my eyes infuriated me the more – Brielle stood in front of my house. I wasn’t really ready for another brawl today. ‘Is today my unlucky day?’ I muttered to myself as I stared through the window, at Brielle. I decided it was best not to overthink things and just be a man and send her out nice and good.
“What are you doing here?” I approached her and asked.
“That’s no way to greet your guest, Mr. Cayden.”
“You haven’t answered my question,” I answered smugly.
“You should work on your courtesy,” she said and fanned the flames of anger and resentment in me.
I really was in no mood for her troubles today and at the same time, I was too exhausted to engage in another fight. I had to settle it peacefully and quietly. I took a deep breath to cool off steam and said: “As you can see…,” I paused and took another deep breath, “I’m not in the mood for your stress right now,” I continued. “So please do me a favor and use the way out,” I pointed the way out imploring her to leave.
“Do I look like someone who goes around making trouble?”
She was still babbling, making me go insane the more. “What part of ‘use the way out’ do you not assimilate?” I asked placidly. I tried my utmost best to remain calm and not lash out. I knew very well that lashing out at that point wouldn’t be so good for either of us. But it seemed to me that Brielle took my benevolence for granted. “Brielle,” I called out still holding my horses. “As you can see, I’m in no mood to entertain your nonsense, okay? So if you don’t mind, please leave,” I requested nicely.
“Are you not going to ask me why I came over? You don’t intend to listen?”
“I don’t!…,” I almost lost my cool and yelled. I inhaled deeply once again in a bid to calm down. “I don’t care. I don’t care, okay?” I reduced my pitch.
She scoffed at me. “Listen Cayden. I haven’t come here out of my own volition, okay? I came strictly for work,” she said.
“I really don’t want to know why you’re here. I just want you to get lost,” I retorted angrily still watching my tone.
“Listen…,” I cut her off abruptly.
“Brielle, for the love of God, get the hell out of my house!” I said with increasing tones – I increased my tone with every word I uttered – stressing the ‘hell’.
“Just shut up and listen to me already!” she yelled. She probably figured that was the only way to get me to pay her any attention. “I haven’t come here to play with you or look at your ugly looking face,” she sneered. “Like I said earlier, my purpose for coming here is strictly professional. The boss wants to have a virtual meeting with us both present!”
“Virtual meeting?” I scoffed. I didn’t believe what she said.
“Yes, virtual meeting.”
“Why? Why would he want us to be both present? If he has anything to say, he could just tell us individually. Why do we have for be together?” I made my point – that I doubted her – known from the way I sounded.
“Why don’t we find out for ourselves?” she jabbered.
“You really are…,” I was cut off by the sound of my ring tone – a call came in.
Apparently, it was the secretary of where I worked that called me.
“Hello?” I picked up.
“Mr. Cayden?” she called out from the other end.
“Yes Margret,” I answered.Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
“Mr. Steve would like to have a virtual meeting with you and Miss Brielle today in few minutes,” she informed.
“With me and Margaret?” I asked still in awe as to why that was so.
“Yes, Mr. Cayden. Apparently it’s an urgent matter so if you don’t mind…,”
“Sure, It’s fine by me. Miss Brielle is already with me as we speak,” I said, glaring at her.
“Oh, great. Have a wonderful day ahead.”
“And you too,” I concluded the call and hung up. I turned to Brielle and asked: “Why does he want to meet with us together?”
“We’re only a few minutes away from finding that out . Why don’t we go in and find out for ourselves?”
Grudgingly, I opened the door and let her into my house. Still squawking, I dashed in to get my laptop and had it all set up. In no time, the meeting commenced.
“Good day sir”, “Good day sir,” we greeted almost immediately.
“Mr. Cayden, Miss Lily, I trust you’re doing well?” he inquired.
“Yes sir, I’m doing just fine.”
“And so am I,” Brielle responded.
Mr. Steve cleared his throat and said: “Miss Brielle, could you please repeat what you said to me in his presence?” he asked.
I turned swiftly to her.
“I said that Mr. Cayden here hired a girlfriend for two days to sort out the issues with the investors. Their relationship was all a lie, sir. That’s what I said,” she stated to my dismay. She really snitched on me.
“After their ploy, Mr. Cayden here called off the relationship over flimsy reasons. Sir, you know very well that this company was built with genuine efforts from the likes of you and what my partner did is against this great company’s code of conduct. That’s why I decided to bring it to your notice,” she fueled the fire.
