Love Me The Way I Did

Chapter 17

Ethan acted as if he didn’t understand and took Roxanne to the backyard. In the middle of the yard was a glass house Ethan had acquired at great expense.

Ethan wanted to give Roxanne the best. However, he soon realized no matter how much he gave her, it could not compete with a smile from Gideon,

Gideon caught up with Margaret, who was speed walking. “Are you planning to walk home?” he asked, observing her flat shoes and thinking. ‘Sure, she’s unpredictable.

“One needs to exercise more to live a long life. So, you’re right, Mr. Compton. I’m going to walk back,” Margaret said stubbornly while silently cursing Gideon.

‘There are many restaurants in the city for Gideon to choose from. Why did he have to choose such a remote place? Did he plan to take me directly into the valley after dinner and get rid of my dead body?’ she wondered.

“Very well. Then I won’t keep you from living a long life, Gideon said mockingly. He showed no intention of persuading Margaret to get into his car, so he stepped on the gas and drove off, leaving a cloud of dust on Margaret’s face.

“What the heck!” Margaret cursed. She wanted to be ladylike, but when it came to Gideon, she couldn’t help blasting inappropriate words.

Margaret almost broke her foot after walking only one-third of the way while trying to act tough. She attempted to hitch a ride but was

unsuccessful due to the remote area.

After walking for a long time, Margaret finally spotted a bus stop. She rushed to it like a desperate person seeing water in the desert.

However, when Margaret looked up, she was in utter despair. The last bus had left ten minutes ago.

Margaret felt exhausted. She squatted on the ground and thought about sleeping on the floor.

Just as the frustration consumed Margaret, a car slowly pulled up. The car window slowly lowered, revealing Gideon’s hideous face.

“Maggie, how’s your fitness plan going? Do you need a ride?” he asked. The smug look on his face made Margaret want to punch him in the eye and make sure he got a black eye.

In the end, reason prevailed. Margaret knew that if she refused Gideon again, he would leave without looking back. When the time comes, she might have to continue walking in that remote place for a long time.

Margaret slammed the car door shut with a bang. As soon as she was in the back seat, she lay down. “I really need to train again. Conditions on the battlefield were much harsher then, but I could hold out. Now, it’s only a short distance, and I’m already exhausted,” she thought.

Gideon didn’t care she was lying down, and he quietly sent her home.

When the car stopped and Gideon looked back, he saw she had fallen asleep. She looked meek in her sleep and wouldn’t lock horns with him, just as obedient as she had been five years ago.

Gideon didn’t call Margaret right away. Instead, he took a moment to enjoy the peacefulness of the moment. He turned to watch her sleep. If Margaret hadn’t rolled over and fallen off the backseat, they would have stayed in that position all night.

Margaret rubbed her aching waist as she slowly woke up. When she saw the familiar scenery, she deftly slid back into the back seat and politely said to Gideon, “Thank you for driving me home, Mr. Compton.”

With that, Margaret opened the door, stepped out, and closed it, Her actions were quick and deft, and her earlier exhaustion had disappeared.

“Maggie, am I a tiger?” Gideon asked, sticking his head out of the window.

Margaret turned and saw Gideon looking serious. She gulped and lied, saying, “No!”

Margaret thought to herself, “Gideon is more terrifying than beasts like tigers and lions. However, she didn’t express her thoughts for fear of losing any chance to go home.
