Redmption 343
Redmption 343
I felt like I had to respond. But what came out of my mouth was something I might as well not have said
at all. "Just because I'm not one now doesn't mean that I won't be in the future."
Arthur laughed, and Tiffany, who was in his arms, laughed along with him.
"Daddy, Madeline is nice. She played with me."
This little girl sure knew how to flatter me..
A dark cloud passed over Tiffany's mother's face as she regarded me with a wary eye. She probably thought that I was yet another conquest of Arthur's.
"Alright then. You can play with her from now on," Arthur said as if I were someone close to him.
I started to say something but thought better of it, as we were still in front of the child. So I just dismissed his comment as something he had said to pacify Tiffany. Arthur walked up to me with Tiffany in his arms. "Do you have time to play with my daughter? Name your price."
Was he serious about having me babysit?
Did he think everyone was as idle and bored as he was?
But if I refused him in front of his woman and daughter, not only would it hurt his pride, but it would also upset Tiffany.
I let out a dry laugh. "Mr. Griffins is joking, of course. I'd be happy to spend time with your daughter, but I don't need any money for it."
Arthur nodded, then looked at the nervous woman beside him. "Get her contact information. Whenever she's free, take Tiffany to see her." Sally immediately nodded. "Okay, Arthur. I didn't know that this beautiful lady was your friend."
She was so bitter that it was almost unbearable.
Arthur ignored her, and she didn't add my contact information. It was clear she looked down on me.
"Let's go. Didn't you say you wanted to eat lobster today? I will take you there." Arthur kissed Tiffany again, visibly doting on his daughter.
I couldn't help but think of Eden. He was older than me, yet he had such a young sister and, of course, a stepmother who was even younger than him.
I couldn't imagine how he felt about this.
"I want Madeline to come too." Tiffany suddenly extended an invitation to me.
This little girl sure was bold and didn't shy away from me.
Before I could respond, Sally
intervened, "Madeline has
to do today. How about I
We
bring you to see her another day?"
"No, I want Madeline to come with us," Tiffany insisted stubbornly.
Oh dear, please don't cause trouble for me," I silently pleaded in my heart.
I was
to find an excuse to
decline without upsetting Tiffanyet
but Arthur chimed in, "If you're free,
join
us, missy."
Even if I were free, twouldn't join them.
I had to find an excuse. "Thank you, Mr. Griffins. But I need to keep Mr. Gildon company."
Arthur smiled. "In that case, we can't insist. We were just talking about you earlier."
They were talking about me? What about?
Of course, I couldn't ask, and Arthur was already walking off with his little daughter in his arms.
Sally hurried after them. Anyone who didn't know better would think they were a family spanning three generations.
As they walked away, I headed to Zack's hospital room
He must have been tired from chatting with Arthur because his eyes were closed.
I didn't want to disturb him, so I sat
there quietly, keeping him company. Looking at the white hair at his temples, recalled how he looked ten years ago. The thoughts of all he'd done for me over the years flashed before my eyes.
I was lost in thought when I suddenly heard Zack call out, "Maddie."Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
"Mr. Gildon." I looked at him, but he still had his eyes closed.
He didn't say anything else. It was as if he had called out to me in his dream.
I paused for a few seconds, then tentatively said his name again, "Mr. Gildon..."
