Love’ss 177
Outside, everything was in chaos.
Madelyn lounged lazily on the couch in Andrew’s office. Andrew had coaxed her into taking her medicine before diving into his work. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
Every so often, he would glance up at Madelyn with intense eyes.
Madelyn sweetly said, “Darling, I’m thinking of leaving on time today.”
Andrew said, “You didn’t even clock into work, so how can you leave?”
Madelyn persisted and said, “I just want us to get back to Serenity Villa earlier.”
Andrew chuckled.
He checked the time on his phone and said, “I have a meeting in a bit, but I’ll try my best to end on time.”
“Okay.”
Madelyn nodded. In truth, she was subtly reminding him not to slack off during work hours.
She knew she needed to find something productive to do in this company. Otherwise, being there under his nose would only hinder his work.
30 minutes later, Andrew headed off to his meeting. Madelyn reclined on the couch, scrolling through her phone. She hadn’t forgotten that she had just officially acknowledged a goddaughter.
Uncertain of Serena’s clothing size, she dialed Melinda to inquire. Melinda quickly answered her call.
“Mrs. Miller,” Melinda greeted her formally.
“You can just call me Maddie,” Madelyn requested.
She found the formal address awkward.
The unfamiliar address made Melinda feel uneasy, no matter how often she said it. She hadn’t fully recovered from Madelyn accepting Serena as her goddaughter.
Hearing Madelyn speak like this now only made her feel more embarrassed,
She asked, “What can I do for you, Maddie?”
Madelyn inquired, “What size clothes does Rena wear?
“You want to buy clothes for Rena? There’s no need. You’ve already helped her so much, and kids always have plenty of places to spend money,” Melinda said.
“Sooner or later, I’ll have to buy them. Hurry up and tell me,” Madelyn interjected.
She had seen Serena two or three times. However, every time she saw the latter, she wore the same clothes, which were showing signs of wear.
She knew that Melinda was focused on saving Serena, and the money that she earned was mainly used on Serena’s medical expenses, which didn’t leave much money to buy her clothes.
It wasn’t only Serena. Melinda’s jeans had also been washed white.
She wears size 90. Thank you.”
“Okay. I got it.”
“You don’t have to buy a lot. Kids grow quickly, and it’ll be a waste if they outgrow them,” Melinda
cautioned.
Madelyn nodded, though her shopping cart was already filled with many styles she loved.
She wondered what kind of parents would leave a child at the scene of an accident. Even if the child seemed lifeless, they should have taken her away.
Just thinking about it made Madelyn feel sorry for Serena.
Caleb, Amelia, and Victoria from the Garcia residence repeatedly called Madelyn. However, Madelyn kept declining their calls. In the end, she picked up the call from the Miller residence.
“Maddie, would you like to come home for dinner tonight? Grandma misses you too,” Grace said over the phone.”
“Of course, Mom.”
Since Athena’s birthday celebration, Madelyn had been dealing with her health issues and hadn’t returned yet.
She had intended to return these past few days, but Andrew had kept her close by his side.
Andrew’s meeting lasted nearly two hours. By the time he emerged, half an hour had already passed since quitting time.
Madelyn approached and embraced him.
“Are you done with work?”
Andrew bent down. He smiled as he habitually welcomed his darling into his arms.
He asked, “What’s wrong? Are you hungry?”
“Not really. Mom wants us to go home for dinner.”
If she was honest, she was indeed famished.
Since taking Derrick’s medicine, she always felt hungry. At mealtime, she was eager to eat.
Andrew ruffled her soft hair.
“Can you wait for me for another ten minutes?”
“Okay,” Madelyn replied.
