“Okay,” Madelyn replied to Andrew. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
She quickly gathered her things and headed downstairs. Most of her colleagues had already left for lunch.
Andrew’s car was waiting for her in the underground garage, so she walked over to the adjacent building and got in.
As soon as she settled into the car, Andrew pulled her into his arms.
“How was your first day at work? Did everything go okay?”
“Darling, you didn’t even mention I needed to bring a résumé,” Madelyn complained.
Andrew lifted her onto his lap.
“What’s wrong? Did something upset you? Should I fire Jessie?”
“No! It’s fine,” she reassured him.
So, the stern vice president’s name was Jessie. Madelyn hadn’t been offended, but she was unsettled for a moment.
It wasn’t intentional. She was just used to turning to Andrew when things didn’t go smoothly.
Andrew gently stroked her head.
“You say you’re fine, but that pout says otherwise. Tell me. What would make you feel better?”
“Could we go to Moonlit Restaurant? Do we have time?
“We do. If you want it, I’ll have it arranged. We’ll get there just in time.”
“Great.”
She was craving Moonlit Restaurant’s beef stew.
Andrew instructed Rowan accordingly, ensuring her favorite beef stew
was prepared. The restaurant was renowned for its beef stew, especially for its tender, well–cooked meat. Madelyn always enjoyed it. Andrew then asked her about her morning.
“Jessie spent the whole morning interviewing candidates. Since we don’t have any clients yet, there wasn’t much for me to do.”
“What department are you in?”
“The design department!”
“You know how to design?”
Andrew clicked his tongue. He was genuinely surprised as he hadn’t realized she had that skill.
He knew she had been admitted to Klago University based on her merits. She excelled academically. graduating with a degree in architecture but having never held a job before.
He found it curprising that she had the skills to impress Jessie, who was notoriously particular, to place an inexperienced newble in the design department.
Sensing his disbelief, Madelyn retorted, “What? You think I can’t handle it?”
“It’s not that. Do you need my help since you don’t have any clients yet?‘ Andrew offered.
Chap 184
Design work was strenuous, with countless draft revisions and long hours. Andrew wondered if Madelyn could cope and persist if he helped her secure clients.
Unexpectedly, Madelyn replied, “No need. I trust Jessie’s abilities. She’ll have clients lined up soon enough.”
After all, she wasn’t managing the company herself. There were always others to take care of such
matters.
Andrew was surprised by her lack of urgency.
At Moonlit Restaurant, Lily Turner, the owner, personally greeted Andrew and Madelyn. Madelyn found Lily familiar but couldn’t quite place where she had seen her before.
After Lily left, Andrew patted Madelyn’s head again..
“Why didn’t you say hello to Lily? Don’t you remember her?”
Andrew recalled what Derrick had said about Madelyn’s condition when he saw her confused look. It seemed that the intracranial bleeding had indeed caused her to forget many things.
“Have I met Lily before?”
“You spent ten years at the Miller residence, eating the food she prepared. Do you remember?”
Madelyn was stunned that she had forgotten something that had happened for over ten years.
A sense of emptiness grew within her. She had always felt like she had forgotten something important but could never quite figure it out.
Hearing Andrew mention someone who had been with her for ten years in the Miller residence made her realize that she might have forgotten many significant people and events in her life.
