Chapter 3318 The Rat
In the alley, the masked man stared in shock at the small hole in the wall in front of him. He had been discovered this was a clear warning from Matthew, and the message was obvious: Matthew was no paper tiger. If they continued provoking him, the next thing to be
pierced wouldn't be the wall-it would be his heart.
Further away, One Mirren, Glaucus' trusted subordinate, also turned pale. Unlike the masked servant, who had escaped unharmed, One's arm had taken a direct hit, leaving a chunk of flesh missing. Dust clung to the wound, intensifying the sharp pain, but he gritted his teeth and remained silent.
Glaucus had sent One to ensure that if the masked servant showed any signs of betrayal, One would eliminate him in secret.
Matthew, seeing no further movement from the alley, turned his gaze away. Earlier, he had projected his voice precisely into the alley as a test to see if the two rats hiding there would reveal themselves. As expected, even when faced with the possibility of death, they remained hidden, too cowardly to act.
Turning to Shawn, Matthew smiled and said, "Let's go. We have other places to explore."
Confused but obedient, Shawn followed Matthew as they walked away. Meanwhile, in the alley, One wiped the cold sweat from his brow caused by the pain. He didn't bother looking at the wound, now faintly exposing bone. Instead, he pulled a small spherical object from his pocket, crushing it between his fingers. White antiseptic powder floated down over his injured arm.
One remained expressionless, seemingly immune to the pain. He pulled out his phone, struggled to type out a message with one hand, and finally let out a small sigh of relief. But when he glanced back at the masked servant, he realized the man had vanished. One's expression changed immediately when had he disappeared? How have I not sensed it at all?!
"Mr. One... it really is you." a raspy, unsettling voice suddenly hissed behind him.
One's pupils contracted to pinpoints as dread washed over him. He instinctively tried to move, but a cold sensation stopped him-a blade, sharp and deadly, pressed against his neck.Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Frozen in place, One slowly turned his head to face the man in black, who now stood dangerously close.
"Are you planning to betray the Mirren Family?" One asked, his voice laced with tension.
The man in black let out a bitter laugh as he removed his mask, revealing a face twisted with sorrow.
His smile was haunting, a mix of grief and anger. His voice shook- with fury
as he spat, "Betrayal? You
all forced this on me! Glaucus sent me to die. I didn't resist; I even ruined my voice to make sure I wouldn't be easily recognized. And how did you treat me after that?!"
Tears welled up in the man's eyes, streaming down his face. He didn't know what absolute despair looked like, but at that moment, he felt nothing but overwhelming sorrow and a deep, burning hatred
With a sudden burst of rage, the man grabbed One by the collar, dragging him closer. His other hand pressed the blade against One's neck, leaving a thin line of blood. Fresh red droplets trickled down One's throat, but the hatred in the man's eyes only intensified, burning brighter with each second.
