Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 123

A young woman, probably in her early twenties, strolled in with Claire, and they settled on the sofa opposite Selena. The woman positioned herself directly across from Selena, who casually glanced at her and greeted, "Aunt Claire." Claire, who usually brushed Selena off, was all smiles this time, warmly saying, "You're back! I whipped up a bunch of your favorite dishes today. Make sure you eat plenty tonight. You're looking a bit too thin." Selena gave a faint smile. "Thanks. I'll make sure to eat a lot."

They chatted about family stuff, with Selena politely replying but not really diving into the conversation.

A servant brought in hot tea and some fruit. Selena picked up an apple and started munching on it slowly.

Ricky, glued to his phone playing a game, couldn't spare a hand, so he nudged Selena. "Selena, peel me an orange, will ya?"Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.

Selena rolled her eyes but still peeled a few segments and popped them in his mouth.

"Ugh, I died! You messed up my game!"

Selena leaned over and bluntly said, "You're just not good enough to take on five at once."

The cousins exchanged friendly jabs, ignoring everyone else, which tested Claire's patience. Clearing her throat, she finally said, "Selena, meet my niece, Lydia."

Selena finally seemed to notice her, eyeing her up and down. Lydia had striking features-big eyes, a high nose, and a sharp chin-clearly stunning. Her figure was curvy and undeniably eye-catching. Claire turned to Lydia, "Go on, say hi."

Lydia smiled nervously. "Hi, Selena. It's been ages. Do you remember me? You used to carry me around when I was little."

Selena smirked, "We're not that far apart in age. I doubt I could've carried you."

Lydia was trying to bond, but Selena wasn't making it easy, leaving Lydia feeling awkward.

Claire, not thrilled with Selena's chilly demeanor, cut to the chase, "Selena, here's the deal. Lydia's a juniorin college and needs a solid internship to gain experience."

"Bennett Corporation is hiring interns, and Lydia's really good. Could you put in a word with Everett? It'd be a great chance for her."

Suddenly, the warm reception, the home-cooked meal and the friendly vibe all made sense.

"Selena, I've got great grades. I've brought my transcripts if you'd like to see them," Lydia eagerly pulled out a thick stack from her bag and laid it on the coffee table.

Selena glanced at them; all A+'s, quite impressive.

Taking a sip of her tea, Selena coolly replied, "Aunt Claire, if Lydia's as amazing as you say, she should have no trouble landing the spot through the usual application process. If I step in, folks will just assume she got in through, connections, not talent. That

wouldn't be fair to her, right?"

She skillfully tossed the ball back to Claire.

Before Claire could answer, Ricky chuckled, "What if Lydia really is all looks and no brains? If she could land it herself, why would she need your help?"

Their banter left Lydia feeling embarrassed, tears welling up.

Selena had sidestepped the situation, which only irritated Claire more. Now even Ricky was adding fuel to the fire. She snapped at him, "Keep quiet. This isn't your business!" "Can't even tell the truth anymore?" Ricky muttered under his breath but clammed up, seeing Claire about ready to blow a gasket.
