Chapter 22

"Why"? I cried, and I wiped tears out of my eyes.

I'm being ridiculous! Ryker and I aren't even together!

"Rain-" Liz sighed and rubbed circles on my back. I don't even know why I was crying!

"I can't believe this" I said and wiped a tear "I'm crying over a guy".

Liz gave a small sympathetic smile "Rain...you know why..."

I gave a confused look and shook my head "No, I don't".

She sighed and ran a hand threw her hair. It was 2 a.m. and Liz came over and she's just going to

spend the night. For the past hour I've been crying....over Ryker...and I have no idea.

The bitch Chloe and him re-appeared in my mind, and I began to cry again, and Liz pulled me into a

hug.

I thought about Ryker, and his face appeared in my mind. He had the egotistical cocky Bad Boy smirk,

but it soon faded and turned into a smile which I loved, and his bright blue eyes shined.

Ryker kept appearing in my mind, and my heart smashed into my rib-cage.

"I'm going to call Leah" Liz said and she took her phone out and called Leah.

"Hey, can we talk?" Liz said as she bit her lip and paced across my room then saying "Okay, make sure

you're not by anyone".

Liz turned to me and said "I'm going to talk to Leah, I'll be right back" then walking out of my room.

I thought about the other night, when Ryker and I went to the movies and we laughed and talked as the

movies played.

I smiled at the thought, and stood up and walked over to my bathroom. I turned on the lights and turned

on the sink. The cold water ran and I cupped my hands and splashed water up to my face and turned

off the faucet. Then drying my hands.

I set me hands on the counter and looked at myself in the mirror, I had bags under my eyes, my hair

was in a messy bun, and I was in a running shorts with a hoodie on. I was a mess.

My blue eyes looked clear and as if you could see right threw them.

I stared at my reflection and her a faint voice of Liz out in the hallway as she was talking to Leah. I

closed my eyes and realized something.

Something I denied over a thousand times.

I realized why I was jealous of the girls at gym hitting on Ryker Or how Chloe has him and I don't.

I realized why I always seemed to smile or laugh when I was around him.

I realized why I was so worried when he ran off to the woods, and everyone told me he'd be fine but I

was still worried.

I realized why I always felt so safe in his arms.

I realized why I always comfortable around him, and he made me forget I was the sheriffs daughter or

some model.

I realized why I could stare at his smile or eyes all day, and not get bored or look away.

I like Ryker Anderson.

I bit my lip and closed my eyes shut as a tear traveled down my cheek.

This can't be happening! We won't ever be together! It's a heartbreak waiting to happen!

Liz walked in and asked "You okay"?

I looked at her and my heart sank and felt like it has been ripped out and stomped on.

"I like him, I like him Liz" I cried "And Chloe has him"!

It wasn't just Chloe. Almost every girl with a 'hot body' and pretty face that will sleep with him, has him!

Liz pulled me into a hug and whispered "I'm glad you finally realized it".

"Where the hell is Rain"!? I heard Craig yell, as I walked upstairs and I took a deep breath.

It was Friday and we have to catch some train that leads up to the mountains because there's a

cathedral church there with 'valuables' we need, and we're camping up there apparently.

Also yesterday apparently a gang came in from Texas, and they want us dead.

"I'm here" I said as I walked threw the door and everyone looked at me.

"Where the hell have you been?! School ended 6 hours ago for you"! Craig yelled, and Leah took

Craig's hand and said "Hey, let the girl be".

Craig looked back at me and sighed then asking "Fine. Where were you"?

"Fine! I was fucking getting hit by my dad, happy"?! I yelled and dropped my backpack.

Everyone was silent and Liz and Leah came up to me and searched for any marks "Are you okay"?

they asked concerned.

"Yeah, I'm fine" I muttered and took a step back. My dad didn't actually hit me, I just didn't want to face

Ryker, and if I said anything besides that; they wouldn't have believed me.

Chloe gave a concerned look, and I said "I'm going to get changed" then walking into 'Liz's room', as

Leah and Liz followed.

I slipped off my converses and took my knee-high socks off and then went to my uniform skirt and

unbuttoned it.

I pulled on a pair of black skinny jeans, and I unbuttoned my white uniform blouse and took it off and

threw it to the side. I pulled on a plain black t-shirt.

I slipped my feet into my black combat boots, and the door opened and Chloe came in.

"Hey" She smiled slightly.

This Bitch....

"Um...Rain...so I noticed...that there seems to be a bit of tension between us..." She trailed off.

"Noooo, realllyy"? I asked sarcastically as I tied my combat boots.

"Rain Eliza!" Leah hissed and I rolled my eyes.

"I was just wondering, what I did to make you hate me so much...."? She asked.

I laughed without any humor in my laugh and said "Well wouldn't you like to know".

She ran a hand threw her blond hair and bit her lip. She was dressed in black leggings, black tight

casual dress, black heeled-boots, and black coat with fo-fur on the hood.

Bit fancy for breaking into a old abandoned church at midnight in the pitch black, if you ask me....

I pulled on my black trench coat and tied the belt and threw a black beanie that hung off the back of my

head.

"Sorry Chloe, Rain's a bit on edge right now" Liz apologized and sent me a warning look.

I rolled my eyes and walked out into the main room and Leah, Liz, and Chloe all also came out.

Craig and Vince were going over last minute things as the guys all sat around, and Chloe went over to

Ryker.

"You alright, babe"? He asked her and she nodded slightly then whispered something in his ear and

looked at me with a glare.

I looked away and down at the ground and blinked a few times slowly and parted my lips. Liz came up

and whispered "It'll be okay".

"Rain!" A voice cheered and I turned around to see Melanie, and she ran up and hugged me.

I picked her up, and hugged her "Hey Mel".

She giggled "Guess what"!? Her eyes lit up.

"What"? I asked with enthusiasm.

"I'm coming with you!" She chirped and I chuckled and gave her a high-five.

I loved Melanie, she was so cute and sweet.

"Melanie" Ryker called as him and Chloe walked over and my whole body tensed up.

"Hey Melanie" Chloe smiled, and Melanie buried her head into the crook of my neck, and held onto my

tightly, as if her life depended on it.

I gave a confused look, as to why Melanie seemed scared of Chloe. Ryker went to grab her from me,

but Melanie clung onto me, and told Ryker "No".

Ryker gave an annoyed look "Melanie Grace! Cooperate!"

"I want to stay with Rain" She pleaded, and Ryker clenched his jaw. Chloe grabbed his hand and said

"Babe, just let her. I'm sure Rain, is perfectly capable of watching after Melanie".

Ryker muttered "Fine" then walking away with Chloe.

Melanie leaned back, so I could look her. I tucked a piece of her caramel brown hair behind her ear and

asked "What's wrong"?

"I don't like Chloe" Melanie frowned "She's mean, and always takes my brother away".

I blinked slowly a few times and then looked over to see Ryker and Chloe talking by his truck as the

guys went threw a run-down of what we're going to do tonight.

Liz and Leah came over and asked "How you holding up"?

"I'm not" I said and fixed Melanie on my hip.

"Let's load up"! Craig yelled, and we all gathered around him. We were outside and it was pretty dark.

"Alright, we're taking to trucks! Me, Neil, Reece, Vince, Faith, Melanie with me. Liz, Leah, Peter, Will,

Ryker, Rain, Chloe with Peter!"

I bit my lip and Melanie hugged me then running off to Faith, and I bit my lip and walked over to Peter's

truck.

Peter got in the drivers side, Will got in the passenger seat, Leah got in the seat between them. Liz and

I fought about who was going in the middle.

"Go! You're skinnier!" She exclaimed and I huffed then climbing in and sitting next to Ryker, as Liz sat

on my other side in the back-seat. Chloe climbed in and lapped with Ryker.

I looked at Liz, and she gave me a sympathetic look. Peter drove away and I impatiently tapped my

fingers on my knee, and bit my lip.

I took my phone out and Ryker whispered in my ear "Nice background" then I raised an eyebrow and

unlocked my phone and saw my lock-screen was a picture of Ryker that I took a while ago, and caught

him off-guard. I loved the picture, he was actually smiling and his face was close to the camera.

I smiled down at it and looked up at Ryker and rolled my eyes "I can't believe you set that as my

background".

"It made you smile, didn't it"? He asked raising an eyebrow and smirked and I bit my lip and smiled. He

leaned closer to my ear and whispered "And I'll do anything to make you smile".

He leaned back and turned to Chloe, and I looked at Liz and she grinned and mouthed 'EEKKKKK'.

We came to the moving train that started to take off the rail-road tracks slowly. The guys all hopped on

quickly and the train started to sped up.

Leah, Liz, Melanie, Faith all got on. Leaving Ryker, Chloe, and I.

"Chloe, come here" Ryker instructed and he picked her up and gave her push up and the guys grabbed

her hands.

Ryker quickly got on and put his hand out to me, and the train started to sped up.

"Rain! Grab my hand"! Ryker yelled, and I went to grab his hand but the train started to move away.

I ran after and threw a field of grass and everyone yelled after me, I saw Ryker run threw the train and I

stopped for a second and thought.

I watched as the train rushed and rushed away, as all the carriers went away in a blink of an eye. The

train was long, and Ryker ran threw it.

I put my hand out slowly, and went to grab a border of a ledge but I couldn't grab it because it moved to

fast.

"Rain!" Voices yelled and it was from a far a distance.

"Rain!" Ryker's voice yelled, and I looked to see him at one of the barriers "Go to the end of the train"!

He yelled.

I ran to the end and threw the field of grass, and I ran as fast as I could.

I waited for the end to reach me, and there was a huge ditch between me and where the train was.

Ryker came to the end and put his hand out and I grabbed it, and he pulled me up and over the ditch.

He pulled me up with one hand and I fell on top of me.

He caught his breath and I stood up, and so did he.

"Thank you" I said and wiped the dirt off me.

"Yeah....next time I'll make sure to get you on first" He said, and I bit my lip and looked up to met his

bright blue eyes.

"Come on" He nodded "Let's go back".

I nodded and followed him as we walked threw the carriers, and we came to a part where it was open

and you have to walk across a metal bar to get to the other-side.

"Get on" Ryker said leaning down a bit, so I could get on his back.

"No!" I said "You're not carrying me, across this! If you slip, you'll get hurt"!

"Princess" He narrowed his eyes at me "If you slip, you'll get hurt, and thats more likely then me

falling".

I sighed and jumped up on Ryker's back and wrapped my arms around his neck loosely, and he

grabbed a bar and started to walk across as he kept his balance.

I squeezed my eyes shut as he walked across. He set me down once we got to the other-side and I

opened my eyes and he smirked "Told you".

My heart pounded in my chest, and felt like it could just burst out of my chest.

"Neil! Neil!" I shrieked "Put me down"! I pounded on his back, and squirmed in his grip.

"Well aren't you feisty" Neil said and put me down. I huffed and fixed the beanie on my head, that had

fallen off.

"Don't pick me up" I glared at him.

"Yeah, only Ryker's allowed to do that to her" Will called with a smirk and I smacked him, and Ryker

rolled his eyes.

"Is there something going on between you two?" Chloe asked innocently; but I could tell it was an

act...all an act.

"I mean besides the fact they almost slept together, and made out.....un-countable times-" Vince

shrugged.

Chloe's eyes widened "You two almost slept together"!?

Ryker scratched the back of his neck, and I looked down at the ground as I sat down next to Neil, and

everyone was sitting around.

"Yeah, but it didn't happen. It was just a mistake, babe" Ryker said.

My breath hitched and my lips parted, my heart shattered and I felt like I just got thrown out the window,

crashed into the ground, ran over by a truck, some football player kicked me in the air, the Queen of

England demolished me, and got abducted by aliens.

"So you don't have any feelings for Rain"? She raised an eyebrow.

Ryker shook his head and clenched his jaw "Nope".

I closed my eyes shut tightly, to hold back tears. I re-opened my eyes and stood back up and walked

out and into another platform.

We walked threw the fields and it was pitch black, and we had flashlights. We got off the train about a

half hour ago, and we're now walking to the cathedral.

Chloe shivered "Ryker, I'm cold".

"Maybe you should have dressed more practical" I muttered.

"Rain"! Ryker yelled "What the hell?! Why the bitchy attitude"?!

Everyone stopped and I turned to Ryker and shook my head "Only if you knew...."

"If I knew what"? He asked with annoyance.

"Well here's the thing....you're never going to know" I stated.

Liz and Leah frowned and I rolled my eyes and walked ahead of everyone.

We came into the cathedral and I looked around and shined my flashlight.

My mouth formed a 'O' shape, as I scanned over it "Wow".

It was beautiful, with the stain glass windows and delicate hand-painted art worker all the walls.

But it was not in good shape, and was run-down and abandoned.

"Alright"! Craig clapped his hands together and we all gathered into a circle.

"We all have to get to sleep, and I want Liz, Peter, Will in one room. Vince, Reece, Neil in one. Melanie,

Faith, Leah, me in one. Ryker, Rain, and Chloe in one" Craig instructed.

"What"?! I exclaimed.

"You heard me Rain. Now I say you obey, unless you want to be running laps again" Craig said.

Ryker immediately went to attack Craig but the guys held him back.

"Don't ever fucking do that to her, again"! Ryker gritted and I stared shock.

"Well if nothing happens, it won't" Craig said and the guys let go of Ryker.

"Go"! Craig yelled and we all walked off in different directions, and Liz came up to me and hugged me

"If you need me, just call me" she referred to her phone.

I nodded and pulled out of her grip, and Melanie and Faith came up and hugged me goodnight.

"Thompson"! Will called and I looked at him and he came up to me and hugged me and whispered in

my ear "I know you like him".

My eyes widened and I pulled away "I'm going to kill Liz and Leah"! He grabbed my wrist before I could

walk off and shook his head "They didn't tell me. I realized because of how you didn't come earlier and

hate Chloe's guts".

I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms.

"You know as much as I hate to admit it......Chloe and Ryker are not good together, and you two are a

perfect fit" He sighed "But it should be him and Chloe, because it won't cause conflict in the gang, but

Rain just be patient".

I groaned "I hate being patient".

Will chuckled and hugged me then kissing my forehead "Night, Thompson" and walking away.

"Rain!" Ryker yelled "Let's go"!

I huffed and turned around and walked over to Chloe and Ryker. Chloe clung to Ryker's bicep and

offered me a small smile.

We started to walk down the dark hallways and a shiver went up my spine. It was very empty, dark, and

silent....to silent..

"Ryker, I'm scared" Chloe said and I rolled my eyes as I shined my flashlight around the walls and they

had been spray painted on and had wholes in them.

I fixed the beanie on my head and parted my lips as I shined my flashlight ahead. I stopped and stared

for a second.

"Ryker" I said and grabbed his hand.

He stopped and turned around to look at me and I continued to stare straight ahead "Someone's here"

I said.

He raised an eyebrow "What"?

"Ryker, I swear I saw movement" I stated and he rolled his eyes "You're seeing things, now lets go" and

he let go of my hand and turned down a hall with Chloe holding his hand.

I took one last looked down the hallway and bit my lip, then running to catch up with Ryker and Chloe.

We settled on a room that wasn't so torn up, and it was pitch black. Chloe grabbed the blankets from

the backpack and set them down on the ground.

Chloe wrapped her arms around Ryker's neck and kissed his lips. I tensed up and looked down at my

phone.

"I'm going to go make a phone call, I'll be right back" Chloe said then pecking his lips one more time

and walking out of the room with a smile.

I rolled my eyes, and Ryker asked "Alright Rain, what's up? Why are you acting so different"?

"Nothing's up besides the sky. And I'm not acting different" I said.

He rolled his eyes "Yes you are, you've been acting like this since Chloe came in, and I'm fucking sick

of it"!

"Well look at that......I don't care" I said pretending to be amused and he grabbed me by the wrist and

pinned me up against the wall.

My breath hitched and faltered at the contact made between us.

The room was so silent we could hear each other's breath and I looked up to meet his eyes that bored

into mine.

"Why are you doing this to me"? I whispered to myself, but loud enough for him to hear.

He knew exactly what I meant, and looked down at the ground for a second then back at me, and his

eyes narrowed to my lips.

I wanted to kiss him! I need to kiss him, and have some hope to stand for!

I started to lean in, and my lips brushed against Ryker's and he pulled away and stepped back "No

Rain, we can't".

I blinked slowly a few times and bit my lip "Uh....yeah, I'm sorry-I don't know what came over me.....I'm

going to go call Liz..." then walking out.

"Rain! Rain! Rain! Come on, I didn't mean it like that"! He called after me, but I ignored it and called Liz

once I came into the hallway.

"Hello"? She answered.

"I went to kiss him, and he rejected me" I said and held back tears from escaping my eyes, but one

escaped and traveled down my cheek.

"Rain" She sighed.

I bit my lip "It's obvious he doesn't like me".

"He does Rain, it's just that-well I don't know..Ryker doesn't show any emotion or feelings towards

people....he's always one to hide his emotions and not tell anyone about it".

I looked down the hallway and saw Chloe coming back "I got to go Liz, bye", and hung up. I wiped my

tears quickly and Chloe came up.

"You okay"? She asked and I nodded "Yeah, I'm fine" then walking back in and Chloe did as well.

Ryker's head snapped in my direction and he had guilt in his expression.

Chloe suggested "Let's get to bed, Craig said we have to a lot to do tomorrow".

I stared up at the ceiling, and tried to fall asleep. Chloe had fallen asleep, and Ryker did too. I was the

only one left to be awake.

Chloe and Ryker kissed numerous times, and each time they did my heart shattered.

I picked the best time to realize I liked him....

I heard movement, and I looked to see Ryker stand up, and walk over and sat down next to me.

"I thought you were asleep" I said and my lips parted apart from each other.

"Rain" He said and tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear "I can't sleep, without knowing you're safe.

And in this place, you're not safe".

"I can handle myself" I stated.

He chuckled and a smile tugged his lips as he smiled as his eyes bored into mine with intensity "You're

really beautiful, Rain".

I smiled and whispered softly "Thank you" with a sincere voice.

He leaned in closer and brushed his lips against mine, then pressing his soft lips gently to mine. The

kiss was soft and gentle.

He pulled on my bottom lip, and I held a smile back. I pulled away and looked down and blinked slowly

a few times "We can't. You're with Chloe".

"I'm not with Chloe, Rain" He stated.

I raised an eyebrow "Really? Because it sure seems like it. I mean with all the kissing and lovey-dovey

things".

He sighed and ran a hand threw his hair, then pulling me down with him so that we were laying. He

wrapped his arms around my waist and I rested my head on his chest.

His fingers caressed my cheek "Go to sleep, my princess".

I closed my eyes shut, and waited for myself to dose off to sleep.

"I can't believe you would fucking do this!" I heard Chloe's voice yell, as I walked into the main room of

the cathedral which was the church room.

I fixed the beanie on my head, since my hair was a mess and I saw everyone in there.

Chloe's head snapped towards me and she gritted "You"! and walked closer to me "You slept with

Ryker!"

I raised an eyebrow "What"?

"Last night! You two slept together"! She yelled, and I rolled my eyes.

"1) We didn't 'sleep' together, we we're just in the same space 2) And what does it matter, he's not your

boyfriend. So listen here, I don't fucking give a shit on what you think!"

She stared at me shock and placed her hands on her hips "You like him, don't you"?

I blinked slowly a few times and Will yelled "Chloe"!

"No, I do not like Ryker" I lied and rolled my eyes at her "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, it

explains why you're blond".

I looked at Ryker and he tensed up, and clenched his jaw.

I wish I could just tell him!

I can't believe I fell for Ryker Anderson....
