Chapter 101
Chapter 101 Prying Into The Secret Everyone in the VIP room of Gold River Hotel let out a sigh of relief after hearing Merrick’s apology.
Douglas was gleeful. It was as if his father really was the one who called Merrick. Similarly happy,
Fabian was looking at his future son-in-law with a smile.
Douglas had studied abroad in the past, and he came from a good family. The combination of good
academic qualifications and personal capability made him a good choice for a son-in-law.
“Dad, I told you that Douglas is good, right? How’s my taste in people? I’m much better than Julianna,
am I not?” Scarlett cast a prideful look at Julianna as she spoke.
Julianna clenched her fists, but she said nothing in response. It was only after Christopher held her
hand did some of her anger seep away.
Of course, Christopher would not expose Douglas’ lie right there and then because Douglas would
suffer from karma soon. And he wondered if Scarlett would praise her boyfriend like this by then.
Simultaneously, Frank and Cindy were grimacing. Even though the situation had been resolved—even
though they no longer needed to compensate for anything—Fabian had taken the spotlight. In
comparison with Douglas, Christopher was like a clown.
That made Cindy feel an even stronger urge to drive Christopher away.
What use can a soldier be?
“Mr. Murray, Mrs. Murray, it seems that we’re almost done here. Why don’t I bring you out for a trip?
There are quite many interesting places in Globetrotter Lake, so please let me take you guys around.”
Douglas did not want to stay in Gold River Hotel any longer, for he was afraid that his lie would be
exposed if they were to encounter Merrick, and that would be embarrassing.
He did not call his father, so there was no way he was the one who had dealt with the situation.
“Yes, let’s go out for a trip!” Scarlett quickly agreed.
Even though the Murrays were rich, they were nothing in comparison with the rich in Jadeborough.
There were many high-end places in Jadeborough that Scarlett had never been to.
“We won’t be coming along.”
Frank was feeling awkward. He had thought about accepting Fabian’s apology, but he was the one who
ended up being humiliated. Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“Frank, why are you in such a rush to go back? It’s a rare opportunity for us to have a gathering like
this. I was a little too harsh with my words earlier. I was panicking too,” Fabian said with a smile.
Frank was a man with no thoughts of his own as he bobbed his head and agreed to it. Then they exited
Gold River Hotel.
At this moment, Merrick was on a balcony on the fifth floor of Gold River Hotel. He was smoking a cigar
and looking at the people exiting the hotel downstairs.
Owen, who was beside him, had a baffled look on his face. He could not wrap his mind around why
Merrick had suddenly let the group go.
He knew well that the people had just destroyed Merrick’s favorite painting, which was worth seven to
eight million.
Yet, his employer had simply given up on holding them accountable for its destruction.
Could some big shot be involved in this?
Owen’s heart lurched. The first person he thought about was Douglas, but he soon shook his head.
Douglas was a nobody. Even if Douglas’ father came to Merrick, he still had to butter Merrick up.
Could it be him? Christopher’s face flashed past Owen’s mind. There were only two people who had
gone out of the room. But when Owen thought about how loser-like Christopher seemed, he shook his
head and dismissed the idea.
“Boss, was some big shot involved in this?” Owen asked, unable to decipher the situation by himself.
“Is that a question you can ask?” Merrick uttered after inhaling his cigar and putting it out in the ashtray.
Pah! Amanda has told me to keep this a secret. How dare a mere nobody like Owen try to pry into a
secret like this? Does he have a death wish?
