Chapter 38 It Is All About The Connections
“Frank, you should thank Mr. Cordrington. If it weren’t for him, all of you could only dream about
entering such a high-class place. Don’t put your hopes on your good-for-nothing son-in-law. He’s an
embarrassment to the Murrays!” Fabian scoffed as he looked at Frank and Christopher with contempt.
Frank’s face flushed red while Cindy was boiling with rage. We wouldn’t need to go through this if it
wasn’t because of Christopher.
Julianna, on the other hand, tugged on Christopher, wanting to comfort him. However, the latter was
not bothered by the insults hurled at him. He smiled and said, “I’m fine.”
“Of course you feel nothing, Christopher. Take a good look at Jared; you two are at the extreme ends of
the comparison table. You may be fine with it, but I’m not. I’d rather head home now than suffer from
this public humiliation.”
Cindy hit the ceiling. She was frustrated that they were not allowed in despite having the invitation card.
As if that was not enough, they were greeted with derisive remarks by Fabian and also endured the
shame that Jared put them through. One sentence from Jared held more weight than our authentic
invitation card in hand. This is awful! Comparing ourselves with others will only reveal how lacking we
are.
With that, Cindy turned and stormed off angrily.
“Mom, Mom!” Julianna called out loudly, but Cindy had already made her way into a cab and left. Frank
said, “Stop yelling. Had it not been for my curiosity over finding out what Fabian is scheming, I’d have
left as well. How embarrassing! An utter disgrace!”
Fabio, who was walking in front of the group, asked softly, “Mr. Cordrington, why did you help them?”
“That’s not all. I’ll allow them to enter and sit next to me. I want them to witness how I shine brightly like
a diamond. Christopher needs to know the sheer difference between us. I want Julianna to be utterly
disappointed at her husband and know how much of a piece of trash he is!” Jared spoke in an arrogant
manner.
“That’s such a clever move, Mr. Cordrington,” Fabio simpered.
Jared added, “Hmph! I can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeves without the help of Mr. Synder this
time.”
“That’s right. Once we get the project, we should teach Christopher a hard lesson. He thinks that he
has all the right in the world to kick me just because he’s from the military. I’ll never let him off so
easily!” Fabio said furiously.
“These are small matters. Once I get Julianna, I won’t forget you. After all, in a way, you’ll be my
cousin-in-law,” Jared promised with a smile.
“Hahaha!” Both Jared and Fabio guffawed on their way in.

There was a little cocktail event happening outside of the hall. The actual tender would not start until
another half an hour.
Meanwhile, Daniel, who was in charge of the project, was surrounded by people trying to curry favor
with him. He enjoyed being the center of attention very much. Upon spotting Daniel in the crowd, Jared
said to Fabian and the rest, “Wait for me right here. I’m going over to have a word with Mr. Davis.”
“Oh, sure, go ahead!”
Fabian was grinning from ear to ear. The manager seems to be a very close friend of Jared’s. This is
awesome! The Cordringtons are highly likely to win the tender.
“Mr. Davis!” Jared addressed Daniel with a confident smile.
“Hi, Mr. Cordrington, you’re here! Let me share with you some good news. Centurion Corporation is
putting great emphasis on this project. We even have Ms. Amanda Clark, the secretary to the general
manager, in our midst today. I bet it’s going to be a prosperous year for Cordrington Corporation, and
your stock prices will surely skyrocket!”
Daniel’s lips curled upward.
“Really? The general manager’s secretary is here personally?”
Jared could not believe his ears.
As the personal secretary to Diane, the most successful and formidable career woman in the city,
Amanda is really something else. She’s someone who Dad might not even get the chance to catch a
glimpse of, let alone me.
“Yes!” Daniel was gleeful.
“Could you connect me with Ms. Clark, please? Don’t worry; you’ll certainly benefit from this,” Jared
muttered.
“Let me send Ms. Clark a text message and obtain her permission first. You know, she works for Ms.
Reed, so she should be held in high regard,” explained Daniel.
“I understand. Thanks for doing this, Mr. Davis.” Jared was very grateful.
Daniel gave him a nod as a response. Then, he whipped out his phone and sent a text message to
Amanda.
Meanwhile, at the presidential suite of Centurion Hotel…
