Chapter 44
Chapter 44
My choices were obvious. I could either surrender and suffer abuse until I die, or run away. Ezra often
mentioned that I would have to leave here at some point, but some part of me desperately hoped that
my father would forget about me and set me free from his surveillance. How foolish I was. I was
eighteen years old, and I was about to find out what it meant to live as a fugitive.
I couldn't meet Ezra as frequently as before. The wolves were everywhere. I had seen them near the
bakery where I worked, and they were always around the building where I lived. Ezra told me that he
would prepare an escape plan. He spent two weeks figuring out the best place for me to get out of the
pack's influence and the safest possible route to get there. All I had to do was get a false ID.
"I don't care about the last name, but please let me stay as Lilith." I looked at Ezra with pleading eyes,
"I know this might sound childish, but I spent my time at school being Lucy, and the only thing that gave
me a little comfort was the fact that I could use my mother's last name. From now on, I won't have the
last name, so please…"
"Fine." Ezra sighed, "I will tell the forger your request."
"Thank you." I smiled, and he smiled back at me.
We both pretended to be calm, but even the air around us was filled with restlessness. From the
moment I found out about my father's plans, I felt like I was constantly walking on eggshells. I only
hoped that I would have a chance to run away before my father made his move.
The date of my escape was set on the day of my birthday. It was the day a big cargo ship was leaving
the harbor, and Ezra bribed the captain to take me on board. Ezra also set me up a bank account using
my false ID and transferred some money so I could settle down in a new place. It all terrified me. I was
scared of being alone. I got used to Ezra being right beside me, helping me whenever I needed him,
and now I was about to be on my own.
The night before my birthday, I couldn't get any sleep. I tossed and turned in bed while listening to my
throbbing heart. I was scared, and my whole body trembled. I told myself that I had to stay calm and
focused. The ship was leaving at 11 PM and by then had to be on board no matter what. Finally, I
managed to close my eyes and slow my heartbeat. I felt like I was about to fall asleep, but then the
violent bang on my door made me jump up on my bed. My heart almost burst out of my chest. The
banging became louder as if someone was using a battering ram at my door. I sat up and moved back
to the furthest from the door corner of my bed. The door lock broke, and the whole door fell onto the Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
floor with a slam. Four men barged into my apartment. Two of them looked like twins; they had red hair
and sharp gazes colored with wicked sparks. The twins were tall and strong-built, and the other two
men looked even more robust. The other two had black hair and dark eyes. One of the black-haired
had a big scar on his neck. I cringed while sitting on my bed and watching them come straight at me.
"Good morning, Princess!" one of the twins called out, mockingly.
"W-who the hell are you?!" I burst out, trying to sound fierce, although my whole body trembled.
"Get up. We're here to take you to our Alpha." The other twin smirked.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me down from the bed. I landed on the floor, trying to stretch down the
shirt I was sleeping in to cover my legs. They all started laughing at me. The red-haired twin crouched
down beside me and grabbed my chin, forcefully squeezing half of my face.
"You have grown up, Princess." He looked me up and down while licking his lips. "With those looks of
yours, the price for your body should be even higher." He snickered, then let me go.
It took me a few seconds to check if his grip didn't break my jaw. I could still feel the strength he used.
His fingers left aching marks on my chin and cheeks.
"Get dressed. We gotta go," he commanded harshly while standing up and looking down on me.
I stood up straight. At first, I wanted to talk back to him, but after I quickly calculated my situation, there
was no way I could win against them or escape from them. I could only obey them… for now.
"Turn around. At least give a lady some privacy while dressing up." I glared at them.
The other twin chuckled, looking down at me, "Shifters see each other naked all the time. I'm sure you
don't have anything we haven't seen before. Now, get dressed or I will help you," he hissed angrily.
I clenched my teeth, then took my shirt off, revealing my breasts. I heard them chuckle, pointing at my
body. I heard the vulgar comments they made while I put on my bra, my jeans, and my sweater. It was
disgusting and humiliating. The second I put on my shoes, I was dragged out of the apartment, and
then I was driven to Alpha's residence in the pack's district. It was a luxurious mansion, guarded by a
tall wall and a massive gate. There was a grand fountain right in front of the entrance. I gritted my
teeth, thinking that the bastard who lived there could wipe his ass with money while the children at the
orphanage, including his own flesh and blood, suffered from malnutrition.
The twins pulled me out of the car and dragged me inside the mansion into a place that resembled a
throne hall. It was the first time I saw my father after he threw me out of the pack. He was sitting on a
huge, massive chair at the end of the spacious hall, and I was tossed at his feet. I sat on my knees
before him, lifted my head up, and glared at him.
"That thing even dares to look me in the eye?" He laughed viciously.
"How dare you, bitch!" One of the twins raised his fist, ready to hit me.
"Declan." My father's firm voice made him stop in an instant, "You shouldn't visibly scratch the item I
am selling."
The twins snickered. I could feel their lustful gazes on me. They were nauseating. I looked at the
person who was supposed to be my parent and froze. He had black hair and emerald eyes like mine.
That made me hate him even more because I knew that from that moment I would recall his spiteful
face each time I would look at my own reflection.
I was brought before him, not because he wanted to see his daughter, but because he wanted to
examine the thing he was about to sell. My own father evaluated my sexuality as something he could
add to the price. I barely restrained myself from throwing up. The fury rose in my veins. I wanted to kill
him. I wanted to see him down, choking on his own blood.
"Lock her in the guest room. The buyer will be determined by tomorrow," my father tossed coldly while
looking into my eyes.
A faint smirk of satisfaction appeared on his face. I realized that when he was looking at me, he saw
nothing but money. To him, I wasn't even alive. If someone told him that cutting me to pieces would
increase my worth, he would do it without batting an eye. If hell existed, there should be a special place
for people like him. If hell didn't exist... I prayed that one day I could build a hell specially meant for him.
