Uneven chances
Uneven chances
The roaring monster stood right in front of me with his shredded human clothes lying around on the
floor. While being on his four massive paws, he was still a whole head higher than me. His dark grey fur
emanated savageness, and combined with the excessive rage overflowing his pupils, his aura
screamed horrifying danger. The crowd went wild, supporting Brick's beast and encouraging him to
attack me. I swallowed hard and glanced at Draven and Ari.
"Alpha?" Ari stepped forward, expecting Alpha to interfere, but he was stopped by his Alpha's raised
palm.
Draven looked at me calmly without saying a word, and I could see a faint smirk appearing on his face.
"You have to be kidding me!" I hissed, wondering if Alpha was trying to kill me.
I glanced at my opponent. He was about to attack. I quickly calculated my chances, and a second later,
I already knew that inside this building he could rip me to pieces in no time. This beast was way too
close to me, and the only chance I had was to create more distance between us. I needed to run
outside, but the crowd was blocking my way.
"Running scared, little girl?" One of the warriors blocking my way mocked me. "Daddy won't save you
this time!"
I gritted my teeth and glared at them. "Move out of my way!" I yelled.
Certainly, they reacted with vicious laughter, which only infuriated me more. I gazed behind my
shoulder. Brick was about to storm right at me, and I had less than a second to react. I bounced off the
ground where I stood and did a front flip, jumping above warriors' heads, and landing right beside the
exit. I opened the door and ran the hell out of there. Brick was right behind me, charging forward like
the deadliest hellhound. Thank God, I was still faster even when he was in wolf form. I ran to the center
of the training field and then turned around, waiting for my opponent within a 30-foot distance.
The elite squad came outside to watch us fight, surrounding the ground while chanting Brick's name.
Draven and Ari walked outside as well. Ari seemed more than concerned about the situation, while his
Alpha held an indifferent expression, which enraged me even more than before. What kind of sick
game did he play?!
The dark grey wolf came at me, snarling and exposing his massive jaw, just enough to bite my head
off. His teeth and sharp fangs were more than ready to taste my flesh, and I stood in front of him, not
sure of what I was doing. I stood in my fighting stance, carefully observing the huge wolf, storming at
me. Knocking him off his feet was certainly out of the question, but I thought I might try hitting the base
of his skull to knock him out. It might not have been the smartest of all ideas, but it was the only one
that came to my mind. I handspring flipped towards him while he charged, and jumped high just before
his jaw could tear into my flesh. I landed on his back, grasping onto the fur around his neck. He
growled, sending a terrifying vibration through my body. He moved his head around and writhed, trying
to shake me off, but I was holding on to him tightly, waiting for the right moment to hit.
I threw a punch right at his neck, but it didn't work the way I wanted. His skin and flesh were too thick
for my punches to cause any kind of damage.
"Shit, shit, shit!" I shouted in desperation, ineptly trying to keep my balance.
Enraged beyond his limits that he couldn’t get me off his back, Brick fell to the ground and decided to
crush me, rolling on his back. I jumped off of him at the very last second, barely escaping undeniable
death. I landed on one knee and one foot on the ground, supporting my balance with my arm. I looked
him in the eyes. They were filled with hatred, heating his massive body with a primal sense of Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
uncontrolled, animalistic fury. He wanted me dead. He wanted to rip my body to shreds, and I seriously
doubted that Draven had this in mind when he said he wanted to test me… But why hadn't he stopped
the fight already?!
Brick stretched his paws, pulling out his knife-sharp claws to reach me. I rolled over to one side and
then back to dodge him. He stretched out his neck, pulling his snout with his jaws filled with pointy teeth
closer. I used my chance and punched his chin as hard as I could, then jumped back onto my feet. I
had to get out of his reach. I did a series of fast backflips until I was certain he couldn't touch me. I
panted. I was scared, and I kept gazing at Draven, silently begging him to restrain that deadly monster
attacking me. He didn't. He just stood there, watching.
I closed my eyes and breathed out. Brick was rushing at me again. I was at my limit. I had no pointy
claws or fangs that I could hurt him with, and I had no shield or armor to protect myself. Saying that this
duel wasn't fair was a huge understatement. I had to think fast. I had only my muscles as a weapon
and my speed and agility worked to my advantage. I thought that aiming for his neck wasn't a mistake,
but this time instead of using my fists, I was going to use my body strength.
I flipped forward and jumped on his back again. I knew that Brick would try the same trick with rolling
on his back, so I had to act quicker than he. Holding onto his fur, I wrapped my thighs around his neck
and started to choke him. He squirmed and lay down, turning his head from one side to the other and
snapping his jaw, hoping to tear my flesh. I trapped him hard, tightening my clutch and putting more
and more pressure on his hyoid bone. His movements slowed down. He was losing consciousness. He
stopped attacking me and was an inch from giving up. His life belonged to me. I could either end it or
show him mercy... And I was no killer.
I released my clutch around his neck and jumped off his back. The huge gray wolf was panting hard
while the crowd went silent once again. It was over. I vaguely smiled while shivering from exhaustion
and a decreasing level of adrenalin. Alpha Draven stepped forward and nodded, proving the job well
done. I started walking towards Draven, turning my back on Brick, when suddenly felt a sharp,
agonizing pain in my shoulder. I turned my head and saw Brick, who cowardly attacked me from
behind, piercing my flesh with his sharp teeth and trying to rip my skin.
"No!" Draven thundered while turning into an enormous black wolf.
He took a high jump above me and knocked Brick down to the ground with his black paws, crushing his
ribcage. I tried to process what had just happened, but the pain of the torn muscle in my shoulder hit
me so painfully I couldn't even scream. I fell to the ground, watching the blood flowing from the widely
opened wound. The pain was slowly taking my mind away. I couldn't breathe. As my vision became
blurry, I saw Draven's human face. He was leaning over me. A second later, I was no longer lying on
the ground. I was in Draven's arms, slowly releasing my tension in the warmth of his. I smiled feebly,
thinking that I could finally rest, and closed my eyes.
