Chapter 53 Close Friends Were the Ones People Should Be Aware Of.

Despite a few minor incidents, things soon resumed with a buzz.

A two-meter-long cake attracted all the attention.

Tilly took her place on the stage, surrounded by everyone.

Lights and cameras began to shoot.

Up on stage, Tilly looked towering and elegant. She smiled all the way through, and her lines remained

as perfect as ever.

Those in the audience below the stage admired her.

Not only did she possess over $100 million in assets, but she also built her own brand and a publicly

listed company.

Her life was perfect. She had a wealthy husband who was not only attractive but also fond of her.

The two had a son and a daughter. Sam, their son, had inherited both of their best qualities. He was

impeccable.

As for their daughter, Sophia—

Little girls deserved to be pampered after all despite her domineering ways, no?

Offstage, Lacey gazed at Tilly's every confident gesture.

For the first time, she honestly thought Tilly wasn't such a bad person!

Tilly did hold something to admire!

Shortly after, Tilly concluded her words on stage.

The applause went on and on, and Lacey followed suit.

Following that, Alvaro approached his wife and held her with a gentle smile as he said, "I'm glad that all

of you are available to attend my partner's birthday party. Please, enjoy yourselves. Forgive me if I

have made any oversight!"

Everyone smiled and raised their glasses. This birthday party was said to have cost several million

dollars. What kind of oversight could there be?

"Since today is such a good day, we've decided to surprise everyone even more," Alvaro added with a

smile. Then he waved to Lillianna.

Lillianna had been standing next to Sam. When she saw Alvaro waving at her, she was at a loss.

Her gaze shifted from the man next to her to Alvaro.

"Come over here, Lillianna." Smiling, Tilly waved to Lillianna as well.

Noticing Lillianna's daze, Madeleine rushed up and beamingly exclaimed, "What are you waiting for?

Hurry up and get up there!"

Only then did Lillianna snap back to her senses and hurried up.

Meanwhile, Lacey, standing next to Theo, glanced over her shoulder at Madeleine.

Bailey stood next to Madeleine, and on her other side stood another man. Wait a minute, that shirt—

The corner of Lacey's lips rose slightly. So it was him!

Perhaps due to Lacey's piercing gaze, Madeleine subconsciously turned her head sideways.

She frowned as she met Lacey's eyes. What was she staring at?

With a slight smile on her face, Lacey slowly walked over.

Bailey noticed her approaching and quickly looked behind her. He smiled when he saw Theo not far

away.

Lacey stepped around them and came to the other man next to Madeleine. "Hello, Uncle Matthew!" she

said as she raised her head and smiled at him.

Matthew Woods looked at Lacey and froze slightly. After a slight pause, he returned the smile. "You're

Lacey, aren't you?"

Lacey smiled joyfully. Even her eyes were crescent-shaped.

His voice sounded just like the one she had just heard!

"Uncle Matthew, do you know what the other word for calm is?" Lacey raised a mischievous smile.

Despite not entirely understanding what she was aiming for, Matthew responded anyway. "Is it

excitement?" Lacey smiled brightly." Uncle Matthew, you are very clever indeed!"

Lacey beamed brightly. "Uncle Matthew, you're smart indeed!"

Matthew chuckled, seemingly pleased with the compliment.

Meanwhile, next to him, Madeleine frowned and said to Lacey, "Be quiet. Can't you see someone's

talking on stage?"

Lacey shrugged as she lifted her brows. Smiling, she turned around, then looked back at the stage.

Uncle Matthew—

No wonder she found him familiar. He was one of the guys Bailey had played poker with!

Lacey smiled even brighter as she lowered her eyes.

Sure enough, close friends were the ones people should be aware of.

Sam was a tall guy. Though he was far away, he immediately spotted Lacey among the crowd.

Her actions and snickers drew his eyes.

Sam lifted a faint grin. What a cunning little fox she was!

In the meantime, Lillianna was ecstatic as she stepped onto the stage.

She was wondering if this was the announcement of her wedding!

But wouldn't that be a little too early?

After all, they'd just gotten engaged!

Nonetheless, she was looking forward to it.

"Sam, come here." Tilly hurriedly waved her son over.

Sam wiped away his grin and resumed his usual aloofness. Then, he walked over.

The single ladies off stage immediately covered their chests at the sight of Sam's handsome face. It

was as if their hearts would soon jump out of their throat!

As Sam stood next to Lillianna, a perfect portrait materialized.

The two were a perfect match!

"Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of my partner's birthday, we announce that our son's wedding will

take place on March 21st," Alvaro announced with a smile.

The audience erupted into gasps of surprise.

That was fast?

Logically, a wealthy family would need a year to get engaged and married.

But for the Garrisons, it only took three months!

Then again, while Lillianna hadn't graduated yet, she had already won numerous awards at school.

She also had a significant influence on social media.

More importantly, she was ranked as the youngest and the best!

She was the image that all wealthy families' daughters aspired to achieve!

With such talent and a wealthy family at the same time, Lillianna was indeed the perfect partner for

Sam.

It was no surprise that Alvaro was looking forward to welcoming his daughter-in-law into their family.

"Clap!" The audience erupted in applause almost immediately.

Lillianna was astonished.

Was she about to tie the knot?

Would she finally be marrying her Prince Charming?

In three months?

Lillianna turned to look at the man next to her.

Sam had a face with well-defined features. He was charming indeed with bushy brows, dark, deep

eyes, and a tall nose!

He was appealing no matter how or from what angle one looked at him!

......

After more than a decade of scheming, everything Lillianna had hoped for would soon come true!

Despite the high price paid in the past, it was well worth it!

The corners of Lillianna's lips gradually rose and finally broke into the happiest of smiles.

The applause was thunderous, and the blessings seemed to go on forever.

Lacey, in contrast to the others, remained silent. She couldn't care less about their wedding.

True, she had wanted to ruin Lillianna's marriage before as Lillianna cared deeply for Sam.

......

She was determined to steal everything Lillianna cared for.

However—

Lacey set off a sneer. Sam wasn't as simple as she thought.

Perhaps the consequences of Lillianna marrying him would be much worse than if she had stopped

them from getting together.

After all, that man was never the one to take losses!

Shortly afterward, Lacey turned away from the crowd.

She stepped outside.

Meanwhile, Theo was clapping in response to the announcement. He was happy for Sam.

So much so he didn't notice Lacey's departure at all.

Lacey desired a quiet place to rest. Her head was buzzing, and it was excruciatingly painful.

There were, however, people everywhere.

It was Tilly's birthday, and the celebration was lavish.

Reporters were taking pictures, and interviews were going on around.

There were people everywhere!

Lacey had no choice but to take the elevator to the fourth floor.

She was unfamiliar with the Garrisons' house.

She did, however, have a vague memory of the room where she had last stayed.

The banquet would not be over until the evening. As it was still early, Lacey decided to take a nap.

There was no one upstairs when she got onto the fourth floor.

The servants were busy on the ground floor.

Eventually, Lacey found the room. She opened the door and walked in.

Before lying down on the bed and closing her eyes to rest, she drew the curtains and took off her

shoes.

"What's the matter?" A gentle voice soon sounded in her ear.

Lacey's eyes were closed, and she curled up with a whimper.

Sweat dripped from her forehead, sticking her hair to her face.

Just a moment ago, Sam noticed Lacey's departure while he was on stage. She didn't look very well.

He went to look for her, therefore, immediately after the announcement.

But there was no sign of her downstairs.

He had a nagging feeling she should be on the fourth floor.

Sure enough, a young lady was found inside when he opened the door to the room where they had last

been.

She was curled up in a ball on the bed.

Little did Sam know that when he saw her, his heart somehow calmed.

"Lacey." In an attempt to wake her up, he leaned closer and gently tucked her hair behind her ear.

"Don't go—" Lacey clutched his waist and buried her face into his arms as if shocked. Her eyes were

still tightly closed. Trembling, she pleaded, "Mum, please don't go. Please don't leave me alone—"

Sam was slightly startled. He didn't move but only stared at the girl in his arm.

"It hurts—"

She murmured, "It hurts a lot—"

Her voice was so aggrieved and trembling that it was impossible not to feel worried for her.

Gradually, Lacey's whimpers grew weak.

Sam remained silent as he observed her expression.

She'd had a terrible nightmare.

Her long lashes smeared with crystalline teardrops, and her lips puckered with aggression.

Nonetheless, her tense body gradually eased.

It was the first time he'd seen her in this state.

She was often spikey, like a hedgehog, and would stab anyone who touched her.

Now, however, she was the polar opposite.

His heart seemed to soften at that moment.

"Ms. Carter! Mr. Henderson!" It was the servant's voice, Marlon.

Marlon worked as a servant for the Garrison family, and he usually did only menial work.

His most notable talent was his loud voice.

And because of his loud voice, he was usually stationed at the entrance.

There were too many people arriving that day, and there weren't enough servants to go around. As a

result, Marlon was transferred over to help with the cleaning.

"Ms. Carter! Mr. Henderson! What are you looking for?" Marlon's loud voice rang out again.

His roar was comparable to that of thunder.

It immediately woke Lacey up.

In front her was a warm body, and a breathing sound was right next to her ear.

Alarmed, Lacey looked up and met a pair of dark eyes.

She was stunned.

"Have you seen Sam?" Lillianna asked.

"Mr. Garrison? No, I didn't see him come up. Are you looking for him?" Marlon's loud voice persisted.

"Is that so? I've looked everywhere, but he's nowhere to be found. Sam was not on any of the lower

floors. As a result, I came to the fourth floor!" Lillianna was getting a little anxious.

"But even so, I didn't see Mr. Garrison coming." Marlon appeared puzzled. "I was right here mopping!"

"Really? I'll look on my own." Lillianna did not believe Marlon at all.

She opened the door to the room and began her search as soon as she spoke.

"What's this room for?" Theo asked, pointing to a white door.

"Mr. Henderson, that's the nursery," Marlon replied.

For some reason, Theo sensed something in the room. He slowly made his way to the door.

Lacey was startled by the approaching footsteps. She tried to break free, but Sam gripped her even

more tightly.

"Shh!" He gestured for her to keep quiet.

"Mr. Garrison couldn't possibly be in the nursery, could he? The room is small!" Marlon gave a helpless

smile as he approached the room. Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

"Let's have a look!" Theo's footsteps got closer and closer.

Meanwhile, Lillianna had just checked the other room, which was empty. She returned to Theo.

"How amusing of you, Mr. Henderson. How could anyone be in this room?" Marlon chuckled as he

dashed over to the nursery room and opened the door.

Theo and Lillianna, too, had made their way to the door.

"Creak—" The door opened, but there was no one in the room.

Unbeknownst to them, under the bed—

In the cramped space, two figures were entwined—
