Several individuals collaborated to rescue the man from the brink of death.
As the man was escorted away by the police, he appeared visibly stunned by Elisa's words, indicating that he had not fully processed them yet.
Ernest greeted Elisa and accompanied the individual, reminding her to visit the police station later to provide a statement.
Elisa nodded, feeling drained, and remained silent.
Ernest patted Elisa's shoulder and departed.
Elisa sat motionless on the ground, allowing the rain to soak her face, experiencing a sense of liberation.
In that moment, Elisa noticed her earpiece, which she had discarded nearby. It was then that she remembered she was still on a call with Gareth.
She disconnected the earpiece, retrieved her phone, and realized that the call was still ongoing.
Holding the phone to her ear, Elisa cautiously spoke, "Hello?"
The only response she received from the other end of the call was Gareth's deep, steady breathing.
As Elisa was still perplexed, Gareth gritted his teeth and said, "Did you really have to take such a risk? Do you have any idea how worried I am about you-" Before Gareth could finish his sentence, he was interrupted.
"Sir, please secure your tray table and turn off your mobile phone. Our flight is about to take off," a flight attendant interjected.
Curious, Elisa asked, "What's happening?"
Gareth responded fiercely, "It's all because of you. I didn't have time to wait for private flight approval, so I had to purchase the nearest available plane ticket." Finally, Gareth added, "It's even economy class!"
Elisa burst into laughter, finding it both heartwarmingly sweet and hilariously funny. Now that I think about it, Gareth probably has never flown economy class, right? Whenever he travels, it's either on a private jet or at the very least, first class. Afterwards, Elisa heard Gareth speaking apologetically, "I'm sorry, but I need to inform my wife of my whereabouts. After this, I'll switch off my phone."
The flight attendant then departed.
Elisa felt a gentle warmth spreading across her cheeks. She knew it was due to Gareth's words. I wonder if he said that intentionally or unintentionally.
There was a brief silence on the phone. Gareth also realized what he had just said. It was truly a subconscious thought, and he didn't expect to vocalize those words.
Just as he was contemplating whether to say something, Elisa broke the silence.
"Alright. I'll wait for your safe return. I'll pick you up from the airport," she said.
Gareth's voice carried a distinct nasal tone as he replied, "Alright. It's a deal. You still have eight hours remaining. You should get some rest."
Elisa agreed, and the two continued chatting for a while longer. It wasn't until the flight attendant reminded them again that Gareth found it inappropriate to prolong the call, and he hung up.
After ending the call, the smile on Elisa's face faded away. I don't have time to rest, do I? Such a significant incident has occurred. We need to reassure the public and our employees. I also have to visit the police station to provide a statement.
She had a feeling that she was about to be incredibly busy, so she decided to take advantage of the moment to lie down for a while. I should take some time to relax.
Before long, Bella came searching, likely because Elisa had been absent for a while.
Upon seeing Elisa lying in the middle of the pond, Bella gasped in surprise. What happened here? Didn't Sergeant Cordova just say that everything had been resolved? Didn't he mention that Elisa was safe and sound on the rooftop? How did she end up like this? Could she be injured?
With those thoughts in mind, Bella hurried over.
