Chapter 37
Chapter 37
Jackson Valor embraced Serenity, lowered his head, and gently pressed his face to her neck. He naturally knew what she meant when she said she smelled. Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
Jenny played a malicious prank on Serenity today and made her rummage through the garbage for a long time. But… “Sis, no matter how much you smell, you don’t have to avoid me.”
“But…” She was a little embarrassed. She was not sure if it was because of her smell or because of the hug.
“We said that we’ll be relying on each other. Why would you avoid me? Would you avoid me if I smell bad one day?” he asked.
Serenity remained silent for a moment before she took a deep breath and said, “Okay, I understand. I won’t do that again.”
A smile appeared on his face. He grabbed her hand and led her back to the small rental house.
He had prepared a meal for her. Although the food had already gone cold, Serenity enjoyed it very much.
“What happened today?” Jackson asked.
Serenity hesitated for a second but ultimately decided to tell him the truth. After all, there was quite a commotion today. Even if she hid it from him, he would probably find out from the internet afterwards.
Jackson listened quietly. After she finished, he asked, “Aren’t you angry?”
She smiled helplessly and said, “There’s nothing to be angry about.”
“She didn’t really lose a ring, she just wanted to mess with you, right? Why aren’t you angry?”
“Because it wouldn’t help,” she said. “Do you know Jackson Valor?” she suddenly asked.
He was stunned. His eyes flickered.
“He’s the god of Solaria. Many people want to please him,” she said. “When I was convicted for causing the death of his fiancée, many people went after me in prison in order to please him. If I was angry about everything, I would just go crazy from anger.”
She said it nonchalantly, but his heart felt painful.
Even if she did not say much, he could roughly guess what she had gone through in the prison. Like she said, there were too many people who wanted to please him.
Some of them even told him directly that they had “taught her a lesson” in prison. And how did he react back then?
He merely laughed it off.
After all, it wasn’t a big deal for him.
But now, he regretted it terribly. If he had known that she was a woman like this, if he had known that he would meet her like this, if he had known that he would get along with her like this, he would not have let anyone touch her.
He would not even… let her spend three years in prison!
“What’s wrong?” Seeing that he was in a daze, she raised her hand and waved it in front of his eyes.
He abruptly grabbed her hand, feeling the rough calluses on her palm.
“You must have had a hard time in prison,” he murmured.
Serenity smiled faintly, “It’s all in the past.”
But the more nonchalant she acted, the more painful he felt.
