Part 3 Chapter 7
Molly Morgan’s POV
Meeting with the Fawn pack had been an eye opening experience but we didn’t have time to dwell on it. Even though it was another long drive to reach the Davies pack and we didn’t have time to analyse what we had learnt. We had to focus on what was ahead of us.
The Davies pack had already betrayed us once. Although I understood their reasons and they* no longer had any reason to betray us, it didn’t make me any less concerned about going there.
Grayson has spoken to them a couple of times since that night but I had always made myself unavailable in case I couldn’t keep my mouth shut.
Our pack already had enough problems and I didn’t want to risk causing a whole new set of problems. Now that I was waiting in the alpha’s office to meet them, I wished that I had taken the time to get to know them better. Maybe if I had some kind of relationship with them then I wouldn’t.
feel as though I was waiting for my execution.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.” Luna Davies declared as she entered the room. The sudden noise took me by surprise and made me literally jump into Talen’s arms.
Pain flashed behind luna Davies’ eyes. She tried her best to hide it from us, I am not sure I would have noticed it if I didn’t know what had happened to her mate. He had been rescued along with the other prisoners but when he came back to her he wasn’t the same. Grayson had told me that he went missing a couple of months after he came back and nobody had seen him since.
“We need your help, the council is giving us a hard time.” Talen informed her before going on to tell her everything we had learned so far.
I felt a little uncertain. I still wasn’t sure if we could trust her and telling her everything like this was making me feel a little uncomfortable. What if they were planning to use the information we gave them to betray us again. I cast an anxious glance at Talen, who gripped my waist tighter and placed a caste k**s on the top of my head.
‘I understand why you are worried but we can’t expect them to help us if we can’t put a little trust in them. Talen reassured me over mindlink.
Meanwhile, luna Davies was observing us carefully while trying to work out if she was going to take the risk involved with helping us. Her frown deepened, I am sure to many people our position would look hopeless. The council was too big and too powerful to be taken down by one small pack.
Any rational pack would send us away.
She moved around us and sat down behind her desk, resting her head on her hands. She was mumbling something to herself but I couldn’t quite make out what she was saying. I turned my head in Talen’s direction but he looked just as confused as I was.
“I wasn’t trained to make decisions like this. I know that my mate would normally err on the side of caution, but seen as he left me in charge it is up to me. The council has too much power and someone has to take them down. I am hoping that will be you.”
She opened the top drawer of the dest she was sitting behind and started rummaging around in it.
She then pulled out a couple of USB drives and placed them on the desk in front of us.
“We have been gathering evidence on the council secretly for years. This is a copy of what we have on them, I hope there is something that you can use.” Luna Davies told us.
“Thank-you, we will make sure to put this to good use.” I replied, smiling at her in a way that I hoped covered up how uncomfortable I felt.
“Yes, of course. Now you must stay the night.”
She replied.NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
“It’s very kind of you but I think we should probably go back home.”
I knew it was wishful thinking but it was worth a try. We had some evidence now, maybe it would be enough to get some of the other packs to support us against the council. Even if it wasn’t, I hoped that Talen would agree to us spending the night in a nearby motel rather than spending a moment longer in this pack. My wolf and lycan certainly didn’t like the idea of sleeping here after what happened last time.
“Don’t be silly, even if you set off now you wouldn’t get back till gone midnight. Luna Davies replied in a tone that left no room for argument.
I was hoping that Talen would say something to back me up but much to my dismay, he remained silent. I waited until the silence was becoming a little oppressive before reluctantly deciding to agree to stay the night.
lopened my mouth to tell her but that was when I heard a loud noise coming from outside of the room pulled all of our attention away.
“It’s my {*****g office, you can’t keep me out” shouted someone who I presumed was alpha Davies, followed by yet another loud crash. Luna Davies swore under her breath then ran for the door so fast that I thought she might shift there and then.
“I know what you are doing in there, they told me.” His words were slurred, he sounded drunk. He must have been drinking for hours, it took an awful lot of alcohol to get a werewolf drunk and even more to get an alpha drunk.
“Who told you what? What are you talking about?” Luna Davies replied. Through the crack in the door I could see her holding out her arms as she tried to hold him.
“I notice that you didn’t try to deny it.” He shouted, pushing her away until her back hit the wall and she slid down to the floor. He then turned his attention towards his gamma, wrapping his hands around his neck and pushing him up against the wall.
“What are you doing, we don’t even know what you are talking about.” Luna Davies screamed from the place on the floor where she had landed.
“You want to f**k around behind my back, then I will make sure that you both pay for it.” He growled. His claws had elongated and were digging into his gamma’s neck so deeply that b***d was rolling down his chest.
This had gone far enough. Getting involved in another pack’s business was never a great idea but I couldn’t stand by and watch the alpha kill his own gamma. I ran out into the hallway and grabbed hold of the alpha’s wrists, prying them away from the gamma’s neck. Talen then pushed him away from us and told us to run.
As I ran down the corridor towards the entrance I vowed to myself never to come back here. This pack seemed to be cursed for me, everytime we came here we ended up having to flee the pack in fear for our lives.
Once we reached our car without anyone chasing us down, we were able to breathe more easily. My mind was reeling as I tried to understand what had just happened. There was a lot about this that didn’t make sense but we were almost to safety. Talen was driving us towards the bounty of the pack while luna Davies was crying onto the shoulder of her gamma in the back of the car.
“What the heck happened back there?” | asked.
My voice was shrill and a little too abrasive but screw it. I had good reason to be upset, we had enough drama already without getting sucked into further drama. I should have known something like this would happen the moment that Talen said we were coming here tonight.
“I have no idea, you know as much as I do.”
Luna Davies replied, but her voice sounded a little defensive.
“Is it true what he said about the two of you?”
Talen asked. Luna Davies shook her head while her gamma spoke up on her behalf.
” think that someone has been filling his head with lies in the hope of taking our pack apart from the inside. It is common knowledge that I dated luna Davies before she recognised her mate. Even though I no longer have feelings for her, he has always been a little touchy about our relationship.”
“Do you know who could be behind this?”
Talen grumbled as we exited the territory.
“No, but I can’t help wondering about the timing. Maybe the council worked out what you were planning and decided to stop us from telling you anything.” Luna Davies suggested.
I couldn’t rule out what she said but I hoped that she was wrong. If they knew we would be coming here then we were in so much trouble.
Grayson was at home and he had no clue what was happening. All of my instincts told me that we needed to get back to Grayson as soon as possible so that we could save him from them.
