Chapter 275
"No."
Clara could not help but shudder at Scott's aloof response. Scott had always been a man of few words. Ever since she married into the family, he had been like that. Fortunately, they rarely kept in touch. They would only see each other at family functions. They barely chatted, so she did not think much about it.
That night, she and Jasper went out.
When they returned home, they found out that Maya had taken a fall. Then, Maya told them that her Uncle Scott had called her, and she also called Aunt Naomi.
Maya even told them that Aunt Naomi was going to come visit her, and so was Uncle Scott.
Children were naive and would often answer honestly. From Maya's answers, Clara clearly heard that it was Scott who called Maya.
Scott was not someone who liked children. He rarely kept in touch with Maya. He would only occasionally play with Maya when she was at the Lawson Mansion, but not often.
After all, Scott was an emotionally distant character. It was impressive enough for Maya to not be afraid of him.
Clare sensed something was off when someone who was not interested in Maya called her on his own accord. This went especially when Clara heard Maya say that she asked Uncle Scott when she could see Aunt Naomi, and Scott replied that Maya could call Naomi.
This was strange.
Her woman instincts were kicking in. There was a problem.
That was why she got Jasper to call Scott to see what his intention was.

Some people could terrify someone else with just a word or a glance, and Scott was this type of person.
Clara suppressed the fear in her heart and chuckled dryly. "That's good! We didn't want to disturb you."

While on the call, Scott went to pour himself some hot water. He looked out of the window and started drinking.
He said nothing, even if he knew why Clara and Jasper were calling him.
The call turned quiet. Clara did not hear any noise coming from Scott's end, and the smile on her face stiffened.
She wanted to know why Scott called Maya, yet at that moment, she could not muster the courage to ask him.
Jasper noticed his wife freezing. He had no choice but to take the phone out of Clara's hand and said, "Scott, Maya told us you called her today. Clara and I weren't home. Now that we're home, we just wanted
check in with you to see if you need help or something."
Clara thought Jasper had framed the question perfectly. She was instantly moved and gave him a thumbs-up.
Jasper grabbed her hand and asked her not to move.
Clara immediately quieted down. She looked at Jasper's face intently, trying to guess what Scott's reply was. Scott drank some water. He said, "Nothing much."
