Chapter 26

After hanging up the phone, Mikayla entered a stall and came out after finishing her business. She was fixing her hair when the reflection in the mirror froze her in place. Her heart raced and her breath caught. In the dim light, a man and a woman were leaning against the wall not far away. From Mikayla’s viewpoint, it looked like they were kissing. Just my luck! Should I play it cool and leave, or stay and watch? she wondered.

“Carlos…” Deidre Taillon murmured, trying to kiss him.

“Stop this. Deidre,” Carlos said, stepping back. He pursed his lips aware that Deidre wasn’t really drunk; her alcohol tolerance was much better than this.

“All these years, haven’t you ever had any feelings for me?” Deidre asked, searching Carlos‘ cold, resolute face for even a hint of affection. But all she found was aloofness.

“Why are you embarrassing yourself?” Mikayla cut in. “Sorry, I was just passing by. She smiled charmingly and thought, ‘Not my fault. You two chose to be intimate in my way!

As soon as Deidre noticed someone was there, she immediately stopped. But when she saw Mikayla, she froze. Mikayla was tall and stunningly beautiful from head to toe. If Deidre hadn’t looked into Mikayla before coming to Xosa, she might’ve wanted to make a friend with such a beauty. Realizing it was Mikayla, Deidre’s gaze turned from amazement to hostility.

“Why are you here?” Carlos asked. He hadn’t noticed anyone nearby earlier when Deidre was pestering him. Panic tinged his voice as he blurted out, “This isn’t what you think!”

“And what do I think?” Mikayla shot back.

‘Carlos has never treated me like this before. He’s always so cold. But now, with Mikayla, he’s acting so… differently, Deidre thought, feeling dejected.

Seeing that Mikayla was about to leave, Carlos stepped forward and tugged her forcefully into his arms. “Nothing happened between us,” he said, his voice sounding warm enough to melt ice.

The mix of tobacco and alcohol filled Mikayla’s senses as Carlos held her. “Damn it, why does he smell so good?” she thought, then nodded. “I know.” She was glad she had stopped to clear things up instead of walking away.

“I love you, only you, Mikayla!” Carlos declared; laying his feelings bare.

The passionate scene was too much for Deidre. She turned and left, tears welling up in her eyes.

Glancing at the lonely figure, Mikayla asked, “Who is she?”

Instead of an answer, she was replied with a kiss. This kiss was different–more intense. His tongue pried open her lips, invading her mouth with a fervor that spoke of long–held desire. After what felt like minutes, Carlos reluctantly pulled away, his eyes darkened with desire. I’ll drive you home.”

Juliet is still inside, Mikayla replied, pointing to the private room ahead.

Til send you back

ck first and ask Elvis to take care of her,” said Carlos. He didn’t want anyone to see Mikayla’s sensuous look.

Noticing Mikayla’s hesitation, Carlos added, “Septem Nightclub is Elvis‘ turf. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
