Chapter 141 Island Life
She forced a smile. "This is good enough."
In just half a day, Ethan had transformed completely. He took off his branded clothes and wore the
clothes of Sherri's child, which had been worn by countless children and patched up multiple times.
But at least they were thick and warm.
Ethan didn't feel uncomfortable at all, and he followed Avery like a shadow.
Occasionally, he would be curious and want to chase after cats or pull at the roadside grass.
Everything here seemed novel to him.
Avery had initially boarded the ship with a determination to die, but in just half a day, she had already
adapted to the island life.
There was no advanced technology like in the city, but it was much cleaner.
In the sea breeze, she held Ethan in her arms. For a moment, she wanted to settle down there.
But she was fully aware that, even though this small island was not marked on any maps, it would only
be a matter of time before it was found.
Sooner or later, Jacob would reach this place.
There were only dozens of households on the island, and the residents were all simple and honest.
Carl told her that they kidnapped Ethan for ransom so that they could enjoy their lives on the island.
The children here had never attended school and spent their whole lives fishing at sea. If they fell ill,
they could only resign themselves to fate. Several villagers had died in agony at the hospital gate
because they couldn't afford medical treatment.
Avery found it ironic. Layla spent 15 million dollars celebrating Ethan's birthday, while these island
children drooled over the stolen cake from the kitchen. Each of them took a small bite and licked their
lips to savor it. Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
What was good and evil?
What was right and wrong?
As night fell, Avery caught a whiff of the aroma of food. Carl's eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Avy, consider yourself lucky. Lois cooked rice for you. We are in for a treat."
Avery was speechless. The excitement in his eyes pricked her heart. They could eat rice for every
meal, but it was a rare delicacy on this island.
Growing up in an affluent family, Avery knew that there were many poor people in the world. However,
experiencing it firsthand was completely different.
With Ethan in her arms, she arrived at the door and found Randy drawing on the ground with burned
charcoal.
To her surprise, the drawing was quite good. "Have you learned how to draw?"
Carl said proudly, "We don't even have a teacher here. Frank taught us how to write, and Randy
learned to draw by himself. It's not bad, right?"
"Yeah, it's beautiful." Avery sincerely praised.
"Frank bought him a notebook and a pencil, but he refused to take them, saying that writing and
drawing on the ground wouldn't cost any money. If Randy lived in a big city, he would definitely be a
great artist."
A sense of pride animated Carl's face, but Avery's heart sank deeper.
Lois cooked potatoes, unknown vegetables, and meat for them.
No wonder when she chased after them, each person was carrying a sack.
Those things were stolen from the kitchen. To them, the ingredients were of great value.
Carl's and Randy's eyes were fixed on the meat, but they didn't touch the tableware. Frank put the
largest piece of meat into Avery's bowl, gave some to Lois, and divided the rest between the two boys.
He kept the vegetables to himself and said in a bland tone, "Let's eat."
