Gloria, Alexander, and George argued back and forth, unable to
agree on anything. In the end, they decided to leave the decision to Viola.
After spending some more time with the three elders, Skylar and Joe said their goodbyes and left Pearlhall Residence.
On the way home, Skylar couldn’t stop smiling. She was clearly delighted.
Joe handed her a bottle of water and asked, “You seem really
happy.”
Skylar nodded and replied, “Yes, I am. I’ve missed Grandma Viola so much. I’m happy she’s coming to Jipsburg. I’ve been worried about her. She hasn’t been in great health these past two years, and I was concerned she wouldn’t be able to take care of herself.
“Now that she’s written, it’s her way of reassuring us. Knowing everyone else misses her as much as I do makes me really happy for her.”
Joe’s tone softened as he replied, “I’ve heard Grandma talk about Grandma Viola before. To the older generation in Jipsburg, she’s a legend.”
Skylar nodded again. “To me, Grandma Viola is amazing. She could remember everything after reading it once, and her predictions were always spot–on.”
Joe asked, “When did you start learning antique restoration from
her?”
Skylar thought for a moment. “When I was about five. I was quite
mischievous then, but at her house, I’d calm down. I loved being
with her
The conversation flowed naturally between them, and before they knew it, they arrived at Galaxy Villa. It wasn’t often they talked so
much
Just as they were about to go inside, Joe suddenly wrapped his arms around Skylar from behind. Her back was pressed against his chest, she could feel his heartbeat through the fabric of his shirt, strong and steady.
“This is nice, just the way we are,” he murmured.
Skylar was caught off guard but soon smiled. “Yes, it is. This feels right.”
In that moment, she sensed Joe’s commitment to their marriage. As for love, she hoped he’d come to feel that one day.
The following days were a whirlwind of work for Skylar. She arrived early at the office and even had to cut short her lunch breaks. It wasn’t until Friday that things finally slowed down.
As the workday wound down, Caleb approached her. “I haven’t seen Simona since that incident of hers. I want to visit her.”
Skylar asked, “Have you tried calling her?”
Caleb’s voice was tinged with frustration. “I’ve called her several times in the past few days, but she hasn’t picked up.”
“Maybe she changed her phone number,” Skylar suggested. She decided to first check with Aiken via WhatsApp to see if he knew anything and then consult with the psychologist.
*Changed her number?” Caleb was surprised. Then he suddenly remembered something and immediately searched his messages. He hadn’t checked his messages lately because they were mostly spam or advertisements.
After finding a message from a few days ago from Simona, he chuckled and said, “She did send me a message with her new number.”
Seeing Caleb’s reaction, Skylar put away her phone and decided not to contact Aiken. Since Simona had informed Caleb of her new number, it meant she wasn’t averse to seeing her old friends.
“I’ll give her a call,” Caleb said and immediately dialed Simona’s number. As it rang, each second felt like forever. He was nervous, fearing she might not answer.
Fortunately, after a few rings, Simona picked up.
“Simona, you-”
Before Caleb could finish, Simona cut him off, sounding impatient. What is it? Just spit it out. If you’re just going to ramble, save it. I’m watching a show and don’t have time for your nonsense.”
Caleb’s eyes misted. “Can I visit you now?”
There was a brief pause before Simona replied, “Fine, come over.”
