Serenity and Zachary York

Chapter 3168

Chapter 3168

“I'm not Hank Brown. I am definitely not him! No matter how many better women than Liberty there are out there, I won't even be interested in them, because I've set my heart on her and won't marry anyone but her for the rest of my life.”

After a pause, Duncan asked, “Zack, tell me—do you think I should get married to Liberty sooner rather than later? In the past, she didn’t want to marry me, but later on, it was me who didn’t want to burden her with my disability. I don’t want to get married before making a full recovery. “Is that why she doesn't believe in me? I was really scared that I wouldn't be able to recover fully and would be stuck in a wheelchair forever. And that I would drag her down.

“It was hard for her after she divorced, raising Sonny on her own too. If she was burdened with a cripple like me on top of that, she would've had an even harder life. I love her—I just want to make her happy, not burden her,” Duncan said all of this from his heart.

Zachary slowly took a sip of his coffee. After a few sips, he said, “I don't know about that either. Liberty is busy right now. You'd better wait till she’s free and ask her yourself. If you ask me, it's just a dream. There's no need for you to get to the bottom of it.

“Who doesn’t dream? I dream every night—of Seren having a cute baby girl and my baby girl in my arms. And every time, I grin so widely that Seren wakes me to ask what I'm dreaming about to smile so widely.”

After a beat of silence, Duncan continued, “My gut tells me that Liberty's heard something from someone. Maybe someone purposely told her such lies to break us up?”

Serenity only guessed that Rhea was interested in Duncan and had no proof. Rhea was not close to Duncan, so Serenity's theory could not be leaked, lest she became a defamer.

That was why Zachary was so unwilling to tell the truth.

“Who would badmouth you to Liberty? Duncan, I think you're just being paranoid.

“Seren usually talks about her day and Sonny when she and Liberty talk over the phone. Occasionally, she'll ask about the situation in Jensburg and tell Liberty to be careful. It's not like it's her first day knowing you. Don't you think she knows what kind of person you are? “She wouldn't do something like that. To me, it looks more like you're the one overthinking it, not Liberty.”

Duncan looked at Zachary. Unable to discern anything, he wondered if he really had been overthinking it and that Liberty had just had a dream.

Right then, Liberty called Duncan.

The moment Duncan saw that Liberty was calling, he said to Zachary, “Keep quiet—Liberty’s calling.”

Zachary laughed in reply. “Alright, my mouth’s zipped. Go over to the other side to talk—your PDA will affect my work.”

Duncan got back into his wheelchair as he accepted Liberty's call. “Hey, Duncan.” Liberty's voice was light and carried the hint of a smile. One could tell that she was in quite a good mood.

If there really was an issue, she would not be this happy.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

Duncan finally relaxed a little. “Hey,” he responded warmly.

“Sorry, I had a meeting earlier and only just got back to my office. What's up?”

Duncan stayed silent.

Liberty laughed. “Were you worried about my dream?”
