Chapter 34 The Mistress Was Ruthless to Herself and Others
Amanda was shocked by herself.
“Here’s your water.”
The cashier’s voice jolted Amanda out of her reverie. She snapped out of it abruptly and said, “Thank you.”
Back at her seat, Amanda handed the water to Iverson.
“What are you going to tell your mother about the divorce?”
Amanda’s beautiful fantasy was shattered in an instant. With one sentence, Iverson successfully pulled Amanda back to the reality that she was a married woman and was currently in a divorce lawsuit.
“Even if I don’t say it, my mother will ask. Let’s talk about it later.”
“If you need help…”
“No!”
Amanda decisively refused. “Don’t show up in front of my mom. You’re already doing me a favor.”
Iverson frowned. “Why can’t I see her?”
Amanda felt as if a fishbone was stuck in her throat. “I don’t want things to get more complicated. Can we stop talking about this now?”
Looking at the beer in Amanda’s hand, Iverson did not continue questioning her.
It was already late at night.
Neither of them spoke. They ate their food and looked out of the window at the street in a daze.
Iverson was not a man of many words. He seemed to enjoy this kind of quiet environment very much. Amanda needed a bottle of beer and a person who could accompany her at this time so that she couldn’t look so miserable.
The next morning.
The doctors in the hospital gave Mrs. Elder Jewell a comprehensive physical examination.
“Mr. Byran is such a nice guy, but it’s a pity that he sells only second-hand cars.”
“How can you say that after drawing four tubes of blood? I think you are in good health. You don’t need to do this at all.”
Amanda handed the apple to her mother and said, “Open your mouth.”
Mrs. Elder Jewell took a bite and said vaguely, ” Halley is very good-tempered. If it weren’t for the damned old woman and your sister-in-law, you two would have lived a happy life.”
“What are you talking about?”
“If you two are quarreling, then so be it. That’s more like it. If that man wants to save his face, why don’t you give him a way out?”
Amanda said in a muffled voice, “I know. Don’t worry about it. I’ll take you home after eating this apple.”
Last night, when Mrs. Elder Jewell asked about her and Halley, she believed it when Amanda said they quarreled.
After the physical examination, Amanda took a taxi to take Mrs. Elder Jewell home.
By noon, the Boardgame Club was full of people.
“Oh, Maggie is back.”
“Is she Maggie’s daughter? They look exactly the same. She’s so beautiful.”
“That’s right. How could she marry into a rich and powerful family if she weren’t so good-looking?”Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
…
Amanda was used to hearing these comments every time she came back.
Mrs. Elder Jewell was beaming with happiness. After greeting the guests, she asked the staff of the Boardgame Club to pour tea for them. Then Mrs. Elder Jewell turned around and pulled Amanda into the inner room. With a flattering smile, she said, “Amanda, don’t be angry. They’re just gossipers. I didn’t talk too much.”
“Mom here is 10, 000 dollars.”
Amanda took out a stack of cash from her bag and placed it on the table. “Save your money.”
“Just $10, 000?” Mrs. Elder Jewell frowned and said, “Aaron wants to buy a computer. His mobile phone was broken before, so it’s time to change it…”
“You don’t have to worry about Aaron’s money. I’ll give it to him. You take care of yourself.”
Amanda put on her bag and said, “I’m leaving.”
“You’re back. Aren’t you going to eat at home?”
“No, I still have something to do at the company.”
After that, Amanda left.
After she walked far away, she could still hear high-pitched laughter from the Boardgame Club.
“Maggie, why hasn’t your daughter stayed here for long? She is not used to the ordinary environment, is she?”
“Go to hell. My daughter is not that kind of person. She is very busy.”
“Is that possible for a woman marrying into a rich family?”
“My daughter graduated from Ducco University, and she is also the general manager of a company. She is very capable.”
“Really?”
“Believe it or not!”
… There was a hint of warmth in the corner of Amanda’s eyes. She straightened her back and walked toward the alley entrance.
Just when she reached the alley entrance, a figure blocked her way.
She wore a beige dress, and her long black hair fell over her shoulders. She was wearing makeup that a straight man couldn’t see through, making her look pure and lovely, which made people feel pity for her.
The only flaw was that the little finger of her right hand was wrapped in a thick bandage.
“Amanda!”
She revealed a smile towards Amanda, appearing indescribably sinister under the shadows cast by the alley’s inclined corner.
Amanda’s face darkened. “Olinka Fane, what are you doing here?”
“I heard something happened to Halley last night, so I came to see your mom.”
“You are quite well-informed.”
Amanda looked Olinka up and down. “But you’d better take care of yourself first. Although your finger has been reattached, you must be careful if it breaks again and causes another injury.”
Olinka’s face darkened immediately. Gritting her teeth, she said, “What are you so proud of? I’ll settle this score with you.”
“Don’t be in such a hurry to tell me what will happen shortly.”
Amanda asked coldly, “What are you doing here?”
“Of course, I’m here for you.”
“Looking for me? With what identity?”
“Of course, it’s because I’m you and Halley’s good friend.” Olinka was smart enough not to admit the improper relationship between her and Halley in a hurry.
Looking at Olinka, Amanda knew that she had come prepared.
In the cafe.
Olinka got straight to the point. “I advise you to accept the reconciliation outside the court. I’ve discussed with Halley about the assets you want. You can have the shares of the Sean Group under your name. The assets you want will be halved. This is all that you can get.”
“Tell me why.”
“You can’t win this lawsuit.”
“Is that so?” Amanda took a sip of coffee, allowing the ice-cold Mocha to slide down her throat.
Coffee was bitter, but it had brought her back to reality.
Olinka sneered. “You must think you can threaten us because you’ve got leverage on us to kidnap you, don’t you? Let me tell you, that’s impossible. We have a lot of ways to deny the truth.”
“For example… everything was done by that driver. Halley and I were tricked into coming up the mountain by him.”
“For example, everything that happened that night was carefully planned by you and Iverson. Halley and I were the victims, and because of this, I even lost a finger.”
Olinka raised her hand and glared at Amanda. “Take a step back, and I’ll admit my guilt. But I’ll make sure that Halley won’t be slandered. Do you believe me?”
Amanda frowned and looked at the woman in front of her.
Sure enough, as a mistress, she was cruel to herself and was willing to be a scapegoat. Wasn’t she afraid that she would get nothing in the end?
But what Olinka said was right. If she did that, Amanda would not be able to win this lawsuit.
Amanda put down her glass and said, “I believe you.”
“Sign it, and you’ll get a large sum of money.”
Olinka pushed the new divorce agreement in front of her, looking like she was the winner.
Amanda didn’t even spare her a glance. She smiled and said, “But I disagree.”
