Chapter 54 Congratulations on Moving to Another Place
“Ouch! It hurts!”
Amanda covered her forehead and half of her eyes at the same time. She secretly peeked at the man through the gaps between her fingers. At this moment, his smile grew bigger.
It was rare to see a smile on Iverson’s face. In her impression, aside from his scary smile, he was always unapproachable and unpredictable.
He also knew how to make fun of people.
“What, you want to pay for Linda? I can contact her for you.”
“I didn’t ask her to cook,” Amanda said righteously. “Do you know how embarrassing it is for me that you ask people to bring bags here without my permission?”
“I’ll tell you in advance next time.”
“Next time? I’m begging you, Mr. Byran, please let me go.”
With a master’s degree in finance from Columbia University, she came to be their chef every few days. Even if she didn’t say it, she would hate her in her heart, wouldn’t she?
Iverson was noncommittal and raised his wine glass.
“Congratulations on your move.”Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
“Thank you.”
The atmosphere gradually became harmonious.
Halfway through the meal, Iverson’s phone rang.
Seeing the words “Lydia Ginos” on the screen, Amanda tactfully looked away and ate quietly.
Iverson didn’t answer the phone but hung up directly.
The second call came again.
“Not picking up?” Amanda couldn’t help asking, “What if something happens?”
Iverson frowned slightly. “Her grandfather and my grandfather are friends. Our families have been friends for generations, but the Ginos Family migrated abroad a long time ago. I don’t have much contact with her.”
Amanda nodded thoughtfully.
Faced with Iverson’s earnest gaze, she suddenly realized that he was explaining things.
Amanda suddenly panicked. “Why are you telling me this?”
Iverson’s expression remained unchanged as he said. “A friend of mine told me that women like to let their imagination run wild and that even the slightest disturbance could cause trouble out of nothing. To avoid such unnecessary misunderstandings, I’ll make it clear first.”
“I’m not that person. Why should I let my imagination run wild?”
“Have you never been like this before?”
Iverson’s unapproachable, beautiful, and phoenix-like eyes raised a little. He said mischievously, “Then how did the rumors spread that I’m getting married?”
“I…”
Amanda bit her lip, but there was nothing she could say. Her cheeks were burning hot.
Wasn’t it because Lydia told her that she believed her?
Just as she was at a loss for words, Iverson’s phone finally stopped ringing.
Seeing that Iverson didn’t look at his phone from beginning to end, Amanda was a little happy. Although she didn’t want to admit it, she knew emotions wouldn’t lie.
“This chili fish is delicious. Try it.”
Amanda picked up a piece of fish for Iverson.
On the other end, Lydia didn’t even get through to Iverson before giving a call to Jamie.
“Where is Iverson? Didn’t he have a meeting at the International Exhibition Center today? Why didn’t he answer my call?”
“Mr. Byran had something else to do, so he left early.”
“He left? Then where did he go?”
“I don’t know.”
“You are his special assistant. Don’t you know that?”
“Miss Ginos, it’s true that I’m Mr. Byran’s personal assistant, but I’m not the roundworm in his stomach.”
Jamie’s voice was full of helplessness.
Lydia hung up the phone in a huff.
Everyone around Iverson was very tight-lipped, and this Jamie was a double-dealer. On the surface, he was respectful to her, but in fact, he didn’t take her seriously at all.
Linda was even angrier. She made a face every day as if she owed her money.
Clenching her fists, Lydia decided that after she married Iverson. First, she would fire Linda and the other secretaries to prevent future troubles.
“Miss, Young Master Iverson is not in the National Exhibition Center. Shall we go home?”
The driver’s voice came from the front.
“Why?” Lydia hesitated for a moment. “I’ll go to the barbecue shop I visited last time and then went to the old house of the Byran Family.”
There was nothing she could do about Iverson’s stubborn refusal. However, she knew Mrs. Old Byran liked her, so she had to seize the opportunity. This was her last chance.
Soon, they arrived at the old house of the Byran Family.
Unfortunately, Mrs. Old Byran was having a lunch break.
“Lydia, come, drink some tea. This is the best tea.”
Victoria brewed tea and beckoned for Lydia to sit down. “Mrs. Old Byran usually takes naps at this time. You came at the wrong time, and she usually sleeps until two o’clock in the afternoon.”
Lydia’s displeasure was written all over her face as she ran into a wall at both ends.
“I’m not going to sit here anymore. Tell grandma that I’ve been here. I bought some snacks for her and put them away.”
She didn’t care much about Iverson’s stepmother. After all, Victoria didn’t have much family background, and her status in the Byran Family was average. Both Mrs. Old Byran and Iverson treated her grimly. If it weren’t for the fact that she had given birth to a son, she wouldn’t have been able to stay with the Byran Family.
Moreover, she was Iverson’s stepmother. Lydia feared that if she got too close to her and displeased Iverson, the loss would outweigh the gain.
After that, Lydia swaggered and was about to leave.
Victoria calmly said, “Lydia, Iverson is too ambitious. He said he would get married. Until now, Mom and I haven’t seen who the woman is. Won’t he make Mom angry by finding someone who doesn’t match his status?”
Lydia was taken aback and turned around to look at Victoria.
Victoria held a teacup in her hand. The calmness and elegance she had developed in the Byran Family over the years had long since covered up her family background. She smiled slightly and said nothing, but she had already stopped Lydia.
“Aunty Carey, do you know something?”
After taking a sip of tea, Victoria said meaningfully. “Although the media likes to make groundless accusations and some words can’t be trusted, there’s a saying that there must be a reason for it.”
“The media?”
“Do you still not understand?” Victoria was starting to look down on Lydia’s Intelligence. She could only get straight to the point. “Iverson has been back at the Byran Family for many years, but I’ve never seen him treat any woman differently. This is the first time that he has clarified a scandal himself.”
Lydia shook her head. “You’re talking about Amanda? Isn’t she married? How could Iverson like her?”
“Don’t you know that she had won her divorce lawsuit against the Sean Family?”
“She had divorced? Does that mean that Iverson is really going to marry her? What right does she have?”
“Lower your voice,” Victoria reminded. “Don’t wake up Mrs. Old Byran. Do you think she’ll agree to it if she learns of this?”
“Grandma won’t agree to it!” Lydia finally reacted.
The Byran Family was one of the most prominent families in Ducco, and they valued their family background the most. Not only did Amanda not have a family background, but she had also been married. She didn’t even have a clean family background. How could she marry into the Byran Family?
“No wonder Iverson didn’t say who she was. No wonder!”
So that was how it was.
“Lydia, you still have a good chance.”
Victoria shoved the cup of tea before Lydia. This cup of tea was an olive branch from her, and it would depend on whether Lydia accepted it or not.
