Chapter 23
Chapter 23
Larissa’s greatest flaw was her tendency to be overly forgiving.
Travis had gone so far as to say those kinds of things and did all those things for her. If she didn’t agree to get back together with him, she would appear to be too cold-
hearted.
Moreover, in reality, she couldn’t actually bear to be without him. NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
Later, when she married Travis, they’d bought a house together in Covenford.
His parents had initially suggested that they live together with the two of them, but Travis had refused adamantly.
His parents had blamed her for Travis’ refusal. They thought she had been the one to influence his decision. Their judgment and negative opinions toward her only further increased after that.
Furthermore, as she failed to get pregnant as time passed, Janine brought up her intentions to bring Larissa to a famous naturopathic doctor in their village when they returned home for the New Year. When she refused, the two of them started
convincing Travis to divorce her and marry someone else.
At that time, Travis had scolded them severely. He’d told them, “If you ever bring this up with me again, I’ll never come home!”
Larissa had been moved by his actions. What she had failed to see back then…was that he was already with Amber before that incident.
“What are you doing here, you evil bitch? Are you here to harm my daughter-in-law again?” An angry shout jolted her from her reminiscence.
Larissa looked toward the source of the commotion and saw Dick sitting in the back seat of the car, leaning out from the car door and glaring at her viciously.
She gathered her thoughts and replied calmly. “Excuse me, I was the one who called this cab. Please get out of the car.”
“You? Called this cab?” Dick continued acting shamelessly. “Is your name on the car or what?”
Larissa knew that there was no way she could reason with him. Instead, she called out to the driver directly. “Sir, it was my order that you accepted.”
The driver was an honest man. He told Dick, “Sir, I have, in fact, taken this lady’s order. You can’t be in my car.”
“Oh, yeah? And why is that?” Dick’s eyes bulged from its socket. His seething features were scary as he slapped the leather seat at the back and spoke, his voice trembling with rage. “I want to ride in this car today!”
“Sir, please listen to reason.” The cab driver was helpless. “I took the lady’s order. If I fail to bring her to her destination, my money and credibility score will be deducted by the app!”
“I don’t fucking care about whatever it is that’s deducted!” Dick twisted his face away, his expression obstinate. “If you don’t take me to where I want to go, I’ll go up to your company and complain. I’ll complain about you until they fire you!” he threatened.
“Oh, you stubborn old man! Why are you like this?” The driver’s temper was beginning to show. He got out of the car, went around to the back seat, and pointed at Dick. Are you getting out or not?”
Dick continued to be stubborn. “I’m not getting out. Make me. Go on, I dare you!”
The driver rolled up his sleeves and shook his fists in Dick’s face. “Do you really think I don’t have the guts to hit an old man?”
Larissa quickly stopped him. “Forget it, sir. Forget it!”
This was her feud with the Hardy family. She did not want to bring another innocent
man down with her.
“You fucking bitch!” Out of a sudden, Larissa felt a sharp pain in her back. As she turned around, she saw a large bag flying in her direction. Once again, it hit her squarely on the back.
The impact almost knocked her off her feet. Unsteadily, she staggered forward.
“You motherfucking bitch! You murdered my grandchild! I want you to fucking pay for my grandchild’s life!”
Janine was throwing everything she had in her hands at Larissa like a lunatic.
Larissa tried to protect her injured shoulder, but it was hit by a bag regardless. A sharp, stabbing pain shot through her shoulder. The beads of cold sweat dotting her forehead dripped into her eyes, blurring her vision.
Someone pushed her, and her legs gave way beneath her. She fell right onto the middle of the busy road.
“Ah-”
“Make way, quickly!”
The screams of passersby rang out around her.
Larissa raised her head, only to see a car speeding right toward her.
