Chapter 19

KYLE

After practice I left before I hit Peters again. He tried to stop me but I was not listening. “Miller, talk to me.”

“No, you fucked up. I don’t need to say shit to you.”

“Is she upset?”

I turned on him. I want to punch him so fucking bad. “What the fuck do you think? She thought you were her friend. Then you fuck her sister on her bed. You should have been honest and told her that you wanted Courtney to begin with. To think I was honestly worried that you would take her from me. Be the guy that she really needed, how fucking wrong could I be?”

“She was throwing herself at me. What the fuck would you do?”

“Nothing. Because I respect Danny. I would have told Courtney to fuck herself. It’s not the first time I would have done it.”

“That’s only because you have fucked her before.”

“Well, now you are never going to fuck Danny. Good news for me.”

“I need to talk to her.”

“Go fuck yourself.” I push him back and leave. I wanted to punch him again. I already told Courtney that I would be back after practice. I figure that would give Danny enough time to cool down. I need to be there for her. I know I have been in my own selfish world. She’s right I am never around. I need to stop that. Control myself.

When I arrive at the apartment, I give the door a light knock. Courtney answers the door. She smiles gratefully at me. “She’s asleep. Thanks for coming back. She really needs friends right now. She feels like no one likes her. I know I am a big part of that, but I’m trying to fix it.”

I come into the apartment, tossing my shoes in the corner with all of theirs. “I will be here.”

“She thinks you don’t really like her. Maybe as a friend. More or less she thinks you’re around for your own reasons.”

“I know I am to blame for that. I’m going to be around more.”

“Can’t you just tell her how you feel? Man up a little.” She scrunches up her face a little when she says it. Like I am being stupid. Well, news flash, I already know that.

I can’t even look at her right now. “I’m not sure I can.”

“Fuck, Kyle. This is getting stupid. Either you are going to fuck this up waiting too long or she is going to find someone else that is willing to tell her how they feel.”

“I know. I know I am fucking it up Courtney. I am trying to figure it out. I just need time.”

She sighs. “Just go be with her now. I told her I’m pregnant. So, you don’t have to keep it a secret anymore.”

“Did you also tell her I was the father?” I scowl at her.

“No, I told her the truth. It was some guy that didn’t give a shit about me. I was pinning it on you because I knew you wouldn’t have backed out. I just didn’t figure you would ask for proof.”

I smile. “Thank Danny for that. I asked her for advice and she said I should ask for proof.”Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

“You told her.” Her eyes widened in shock.

“I didn’t tell her that you were the mother. But yeah, I told her. I try to be as honest as possible with her. Plus let’s face it, she is the smartest person that we know.”

Courtney chuckles. “I just told her the same thing a couple of hours ago.”

“I’m going to bed.” I shake my head. It’s different having Courtney like this. She always made a point of talking crap about her sister. Finding ways to put her down. I like that she has turned a new leaf. I have to say it is the baby in her stomach. She is thinking more clearly. Seeing the people that are really there for her. Maybe getting pregnant is the best thing that could have happened to her.

I sneak into the room and see Danny asleep on her side in the bed. I have been wanting to be right here for days. It has taken everything that I have not to be. Now I just have to keep it platonic. I can do this. I strip down and slide into the bed behind her. Even in her sleep her body knows I’m here. She curls right along with my body. I am barely settled when she is fully encased in my arms. I just have to keep it together for her. This is who she needs right now.

It’s even easier to sleep with her right here. I don’t even have to concentrate or try to relax. I just take a few deep breaths and I am drifting off to sleep.
